- Ella is an absolute MUST VISIT if you are traveling to Sri Lanka! Nestled in the beautiful mountain highlands in the central part of the country, there is no shortage of places to stay in and around the small town center. But if you truly want to get off the tourist beaten track and stay somewhere a bit more remote in beautiful nature, I would highly recommend the little guesthouse I found (will link below). Ella does have a lot of popular attractions like Nine Arches Bridge, Little Adam's Peak and neverending tea plantations, but it also has a lot of great hiking and local restaurants that are worth checking out as much as the main attractions. Awesome video Alina! You seem to be really enjoying yourself in Sri Lanka. I'm seriously thinking about going there in June/July if I can find someone to look after my dog for a few weeks. 17:55 BTW that's a rambutan, not a lychee. Or as I used to call it when I was a kid, a testicle fruit 🤣
You absolutely should! Just make sure you check the weather for where it is you want to go because June/July may be rainy in the south but good in the north.
And really? The inside looked and tasted like lychee to me but true the outside looked different 😅
@@AlinaMcleod Yep, rambutans have those red threads on the outside and are drier and tarter than lychees. A lychee skin is dimpled and looks more like a golf ball than a hairy nutsack 😀
From what I gather June/July is ok weather-wise. The monsoon is in autumn, and summer gets a fair amount of rain but the weather is decent most of the time. They say the best time to go is February-April, but that's not the easiest time to travel work-wise.
I was wondering what that fruit is! Glad I saw your comment. I hope to try it during my stay here.

Wow.. You just nailed Ella my dear and I really liked the fact that you did everything in moderation, starting from accommodation to the rest of the activities.. 👌👏👏🙏
I see, accommodation was excellent, just basic, clean, and good enough to rest and have a cozy night's sleep and you couldn't have asked for more, right 😮😍
You do get fancy looking places with extremely pricey tags, but as long as they all give the same basic necessities, you don't mind staying in any of those right, and this is my personal view.. 🤩
So getting back to your days activities, I really like your hike to little Adams peak which is spectacular though I myself never done this hike before, but I did Ella rock a coupe of times which was absolutely out of this world,but it does take a heavy toll out of your body. .. Infact, I was sweating like a pig as I was ascending and descending this peak and you could hardly do anything else once you come down from the top.. 😢
Btw, Are you going to take this hike or not during your stay in Ella ??
As for your lunch, it was a typical srilankan meal with lots of side curries and I hope that you had used your fingers to eat it, otherwise you will not get the real taste of it and the texture will be different ..😊😍
Finally, happy to see that you look sooo happy in Ella more than the time that that you had in galle where your apple cart was disturbed by the dreadful heat.. Lol 🤩 🤩

Having the priviledge to live in a Sri Lankan household, I would say the hospitality is unbeatable.
The food is amazing btw! Over where I'm from, there's dosa's, and also tried this dish called Kutu! It's amazing.
It's sad to know what our people go through back there in Sri Lanka, but they also deserve to love the way we love.
And btw Alina, my Fiance and I think you're super gorgeous and the hometown girl every guy should want LOL.

My second video trip to Ella & Kandy in your other video. An absolutely post card gorgeous country to visit! Your actually stressed and viewed a few attractions that "The Two Mad Explorers" didn't. Must be enough to do and see if you could manage that in such a small municipality.

Better than I was expecting actually! Don’t look particularly appetizing but it was very fresh, soft and the fish had a good spice to it.
The fruit you ate is NOT lychee. It’s a local tropical south East Asian fruit called rambutan.

I'm actually shocked at the amount of tourists in all of these areas. I know there is a lot of tourism in Sri Lanka but in all of the footage it almost looks like more tourists than locals. I hope the prices aren't too high so that Sri Lankans can afford to take thier families away on holiday around the country as the prices seem to be for tourists and doesn't reflect local salaries.
Yeah it's a tricky situation because for some families lots of tourism helps keep them afloat and for others it raises prices a lot. There are still many parts of the country that aren't that touristy where I'm sure locals prefer to spend their time, but the popular tourist places like Ella, Mirissa and Galle were expensive enough if I'm comparing to what I would pay in South East Asia.
