Super Mario Maker 2's Endless mode is a lot of fun.. But I'll admit that it has some pretty big flaws in it that can make it seem a bit stale - So I came up with a challenge that attempts to fix that, by combining two difficulties (Endless Easy and Endless Expert) together into a single challenge, where you're rewarded with good play in both! I didn't have a name for this originally, but I let my chat vote on it, and they came up with the name "Get a Life", which I think is pretty fitting. If you try this yourself, let me know how it goes!

What if you get more than 15 lives from Easy? Endless expert only gives you 15.
The rule we had in place was that if you got a game over in Endless Expert, you'd go into your played courses and keep trying the level you were on as long as you have lives. If you finished it, you'd just start a new run and keep adding clears to your total til you ran out!

Would be cool if, instead of random levels, endless started with a mix of lower end clear rates and then slowly scaled the difficulty up as you cleared levels. It'd fix the issue of getting immediately crushing .00001% levels, allow you to build a life count, and then ultimately die while incrementally getting better. Semi-roguelie-ish.

Great video, although the inconsistency of the timer/pb and lives/clears background gradient and the artefacts above the lives/clears counters, which are visible on black background, kind of kept distracting me.

Yeah, the 100 Mario challenge in SMM1 was much better, I wish they could’ve brought it back, as like an option for the endless challenge

I always thought that they should add a new Endless difficulty setting-- I'd call it "Arcade" difficulty-- in which the player starts with 3 lives, the levels start off easy, but get progressively harder as you accumulate clears. Eventually you'd get nothing but levels with sub-1% clear rates, hard even by Super Expert standards. Also, like in old-school arcade games, extra lives would be hard to come by-- you'd only be allowed one per clear, as opposed to the three you can get in the other difficulties. Also you could not skip. This would ensure that players would need God-like skills to really keep a streak going, and guaranteeing that most players-- even great ones-- would eventually Game Over. I'd love to see this implemented in SMM3. I'd set the difficulty curve such that most players are doing well to get 10-20 clears, while 50 would be very impressive and 100 nearly impossible.

versus mode has all of the skill. whats the skill in an endless easy level? i had to turn this off right away cause all he was doing was easy levels
