You have seven units of spear you could recruit and shove in to garrison the north! Also suggest thinking about turning the battle difficulty down to normal? You have enough challenges without their units being tougher than yours man to man (Harder difficulty gives AI combat and moral bonuses but doesnt impact the AI tactics at all.) LOVING this Series!
Jon makes this campaign looks soo interesting he has such a comprehensive overview of all aspects of the mechanics I only wish my brain opperated on this level 😆
I know you finished this play through, but you can and should try to burn down a siege tower when you can. Thing is it seems to take about four full or nearly full archer units to do it (you might have been able to do it with the three units you had if it weren't for that tree). Also, because of how you placed the archers one unit couldn't target the tower when it became obscured by the tree that is why they temp started shooting the other tower.
Jon the reason why the entrances have that little killing hole/ ramp up into the town is so you can place archers/spear men above the hole and fire down into that killing pit. If you were to place them above on that walk way when the gate is breached you'd kill a lot more people, as they can shoot down.
Dor is a place in south Yorkshire called Dore. Not really notable for anything other than around this time period and more recently being the home town of cricketer Joe Root.

It wasn't me.. but the lack of jon using skills is driv9ng me insane during battles. Never uses general moral boosters .. and as a frikking Viking player... he doesn't use shield walls!?!?!?!?

People always said it's bad. So i played it and it was pretty fun, not as good as Rome was, but still - the worst part about it was just an occasional bug and randomly spawning agent, but that was nothing i would uninstall the game for. Is there actually anyone else with actually positive opinion on Empire: Total War?
I liked it a lot, too. However I felt it played quite slowly and the battles weren't as intersting as in Rome. And the units don't have a lot of variations that would make them really intersting imo.
It has a really bad name due to "buggy on release", just like Rome 2, and everyone likes napoleon better even though it's basically the same as post-patch empire, just like Attila is the same as patched Rome 2
I love Empire, but the AI and balancing at higher difficulty is horrendous. Seriously, Firelock Citizenry held off my veteran Prussian line infantry >:(
MATN just finished up with a playthrough of Shogun 2’s sengoku jidai campaign, i was hoping over the weekend the MATN team could critique it and help me improve my content and i apologize before hand for the poor audio.
I fail to see the point of even bothering to attack towers.... I've yet to see a tower successfully destroyed, despite tons of archer fire being put directly on them.
there at the end "bite more off than I could chew" potentially sums it up. Watched Jackie Fish play as West Seaxe and he had so much coin and vassal support striking down his enemies.
On my Mercia campaign I played carefully all game keeping Wessex from becoming an enemy while I took Wales, and Cornwall and kept expanding from the middle out, Wessex is by far the next strongest, and got into a fight with Northumbria way up into Scotland. When Northumbria was almost done for I couldn't resist anymore and just started pushing Wessex out of the east coast, with Sussex and Cent left as their only vassals, and only armies south of York. So I quick moved in and ended friendship and military access and just started pushing them out of the south, they were cut off by Lincoln I slowly took from rebels and the Lincoln faction I let come back to try and get more off of Wessex. Now everyone hates me, and I'm now Anglo-Saxon kingdom holding everything in England south of Manchester, Leeds, and York full territories except for Cent and a few Wessex things holding on on east anglia coast to mop up. But I realized I can only take a couple more territories before the long victory triggers, which has me worried fighting Wessex at the Scottish border before triggering a Norman invasion in the south, probably in Cornwall because I've got every army on the east coast... I really want to see the Map all filled in to make my OCD happy, but I don't want to get Norman'd like the real Wessex. Also worried about all the Irish factions getting really pissed the English are killing each other, and hate me, could be annoying if they start trying to mess with Wales. Might have to peace out with Wessex with like 1 territory short of victory, get in position and wait to poach a rebelled area to trigger the Normans...
The beginning of that battle was sloppy, as soon as the tower came in range you should have targeted it, that one volley that went into the other was all you needed, also only plug the gate with one unit at the top, if they can form a spearwall it's even more effective, then you have a reserve unit to move in on top of them when things get iffy, skirmishers go up on the wall above the gate to throw down directly on their heads from behind rather than through half your men, when the enemy docks their tower on your wall don't have your men in front of where they are, have your men manning the wall so they jump down into a cluster of enemies
Maaaannn... you're playing Vikings. Their shieldwalls are the stuff of legend. In this defensive battle.. where you just had a line of infantry... shield walls dude!!!!!! Also.. generals have boost morale skills..
Actually, John, any chance you’ll check out Ancient Empires? It comes out (with a campaign this time) around the 18th or 19th, looks like the Total War we’ve all been waiting for! Edit, a good, difficult, somewhat complex Total War is what I meant.

The Garrison upgrade add those many troops to it they don’t take away anything they add what the upgrade says hopefully this makes sense and you read this

But I had been wondering with his plans the way he was talking he was going to push to his elevated public order limit and forget.

Your Unrest went up because you had the bountiful harvest event for 4 turns, which was giving +3 Public Order for your regions.
It bugs me off so much that Jon never bothered paying attention to units' abilities like rally or shield wall.
Please don't remove Northumbria from the map. I kinda live there, I have stuff to do tomorrow.

Having a look around "Dor" seems to be the precursor to Sheffield, it is in the right area, and there is even a nearby village called "Dore" nowadays

That battle.. So many mistakes.
Initial plan was decent. Problem was u sent the full strenght troops to the gate, and not the weaker garrison troops.

Stop the ff. Friendly fire is not like in tw2 or rome. If thwy dont have a clean shot they will do 60% dmg to the enemy and 40% will hit your own
