  • Learn how to make a simple woodworking box spline jig from scrap material quickly and on a budget. This jig allows you to add nice decorative corners to your boxes, frames, etc. The dimensions for the three pieces I used are:
    7 1/4" x 13"
    5 x 7 1/4"
    5 x 8"
    I encourage you to adjust those dimensions in order to suit your needs. Learn how to cut and add splines in my follow up video:

    I made this jig using your plans over 4 years ago and just pulled it out again to use this week. It is a simple but effective design. I ran across this video that I saw years ago and had to watch again. :)

    This is simplest spine jig video I have seen but it works great. Some videos try to make a simple task harder than it should be. I like to keep it simple. Thanks for the video!!

    If you add 2nd 7 1/4 x 13 piece to the open end of the jig you could then use a feather board to keep the jig stable to the table saw fence good presentation I would glue the V together as well as screw then to protect my $90 saw blades I would remove the screws the next day. As long as the sides are screwed to the 90 degree V you can easily replace the working portion of the jig when running out of zero cut spots on the jig

    Thanks. After 2 nights of gluing up 45 degree trim pieces...only to find them separate in the morning, I was desperate to find a quick spline cutting jig. This is perfect. Thanks.

    Add two more pieces of wood over and on the other side of your fence, then you just ride the fence and the jig doesn't risk tilting into the blade, sending it and your box into your face. Much safer.

    Nice idea....good video...thank you for creating it...I'm wondering though if you used biscuits or dowels instead of the screws on the bottom...that "should" be just as strong once the glue sets...would there be a reason that would not work? Thank you again for a great video.

    Fast, easy and to the point. The only thing I don't like is having those screws potentially in the way. It is soooo easy to forget things like that, even if you've marked everything. Like most things in woodworking, plan on screw-ups (sorry, pun wasn't intended) and do everything you can to prevent them. Still, this is a terrific, simple design. Love it.

      You could have just left those two screws out, the glue joint will never fail on you. Nice design otherwise.

    Nice video sir, but those screws are too close, blade damage is just waiting.🤔

  • @facebookmakesmesick
    @facebookmakesmesick 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Coudl you just glue it and clamp it and call it a day? For angled pieces I mean instead of screws in case I forget and bang a screw

  • @andrewraebig9271
    @andrewraebig9271 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can I use this free-standing by placing it on the edge of my box and use a circular saw to make the spline? Or would that be too unstable?

    Just remove the screws (the bottom ones that you marked) once the glue sets up. They aren't needed after that.
