    Kyle... Tip for you on a squirrel turning around you as you're turning around the tree, take off your backpack if you have a backpack on or find a tree limb that's on the ground and while the squirrel is on the opposite side of the tree away from you, throw your backpack or throw the tree limb to the side of the squirrel Make sure you go past the squirrel The squirrel will think that it is you that is sneaking up on the score on the other side and the squirrel will wrap right background to your side giving you a shot

    Nice bag! I'm shooting a .22 and .25 air rifles this year. They've come a heck of a long way since the kiddy pellet guns back in the day. We've got a limit of 12 here but not too many foxes to be had in northern Ga. I usually let em walk. Loads of grays though.

    You lucky Americans have a larger squirrel species that's not often found in Canada. Hence squirrel hunting up here is pretty rare as they are so small.
    However we have lots of rabbits & hares up here, so it's more our cultural norm so to speak. That's a good small game haul friend.

    I'm brand new to hunting, started fishing after my grandpa died and thought I'd try hunting this past winter. I'm enjoying it except i can't seem to get a squirrel haha. I want to do rifle hunting and notice you're shooting up on the air. What are your thoughts on the safety of that, i always wait until they're low.

    • @KyleTurnerHunter
      @KyleTurnerHunter  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well let's see, my thoughts on the safety of shooting up in the air. I can tell you that this topic has generated its fair share of comments on my media. I will say I don't take shots that I believe could be risky. You also need to take into consideration I generally hunt with 3 or more cameras some shots are filmed from places that I'm not shooting from. For instance a camera could be down hill to the right and I could be up hill to the left. Which would distort your view of a shot. It's just hard for me to believe that all people that squirrel hunt with rifles only shoot at ground dwelling squirrels or squirrels with a tree trunk back stop. In your comments you tell me "I'm enjoying it except I can't seem to get a squirrel haha" then the last thing you said was "I always wait until the squirrels are low". So let's say in fact you are always waiting until they are low, have you ever thought about how many high FPS bullets you are sending or ricocheting through the woods at head level?? Have you ever thought about the damage your bullet could be causing to the trunk of a tree that could have a pregnant Arboreal Salamander dwelling it? But then again if you can't seem to get a squirrel I guess you aren't doing any shooting at all. I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your grandfather. I lost mine not too long ago as well. He taught me how to clean squirrels and gave me the passion to hunt them. By the way he also shot into trees with a rifle 😂.

      @@KyleTurnerHunter I didn't have anyone to take show me hunting, my Papaw quit hunting when he was younger. When I say I'm a new hunter, I mean pretty much since last October. It's just hard to learn on your own. Even my hunter safety course was online and didn't seem to really cover small game with rifles, seemed geared towards big game with rifles and shotguns. I'm sure this comment generated a lot of comments for you because I see it all the time, it's just hard to find much information on it besides people just saying they disagree,and my lack of experience makes it difficult to know the best thing to do. But I appreciate it. Maybe watching some more of your videos will help me out. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

    • @KyleTurnerHunter

      @@AppalachianNick man there just isn't much info on small game hunting as a whole. I film it so naturally I get the questions. But if I didn't film it I would be like the other folks slipping through the timber popping squirrels out of trees until I hit my limit. Maybe it's dangerous, maybe it shouldn't be done or maybe it's the dark side of squirrel hunting. I have hunted with a fair amount of people now and not one of them I've heard them say "he needs to move to a different limb before I shoot." I tell ya if you lived closer and you wanted me too I'd take a morning and walk through the squirrels woods with ya and help ya the best I could with hunting tactics." I subscribed to your fishing channel. Good luck to you Nick.

    The .17 HMR is too much gun for squirrels. Also it's too expensive. I'll stay with my .22lr or .22 mag.

    • @craigsellier5973
      @craigsellier5973 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go buy yourself the Savage 17hm2 or 17 Mach 2 they call it the two different names same caliber. Just like the 17hmr is a necked down 22 magnum well, the 17hm2 is a necked down 22 Stinger casing because the CCI Stingers have a longer casing. Those CCI Stingers or some of the hottest 22 bullets anyway and once it's necked down for the 17hm2 caliber, you talk about snappy 2010 fps but still not as hot as the 17hmr so it doesn't tear the squirrels up as bad as the 17hmr rifle's do.

    Man Boss Man you got me laying in bed 3 am i believe im gonna get up take either my 17hmr or my 17HM2 one or the other and go see if i can get me a few. I really need a pellet rifle because all the squirrels are in city limits and they are fat too. Only thing about that is there's a family of red foxes and a family of bobcats and neither family are scared to come out in the daytime. This city is small but being on the Mississippi Gulf Coast there's a few tourists that come in and everyone wants to see the fox and bobcats. Some people leave food out for them in public and plenty people feed their dogs and cats and they go eat in peoples backyards. I really wish i could ease through there and shoot some but I'd probably make some ole ladies mad and get in trouble. The reason i mentioned about the foxes and bobcats is because they have to be eating their share of city rabbit's and squirrels. Truthfully i love woods hunting but believe it or not way back in 2005 Hurricane Katrina wiped out so many of our animals that they are just coming back. All our woods still has so many trees 🌳 that blew over many rotted but still plenty to trip over with a lot of underbrush. Happy hunting you make some awesome video's please keep them coming even your duck hunting video's. Thanks a bunch.

Had I used the gun with the 4x I would have got that bunny. I went back out with the scoped 10/22. Took 3 shots and had 2 headshot squirrels. I used agilla interceptor hollow points. Way hotter loads than whet I normally use, but this set up is for winter yotes this side of 30 yards. Markedly more report, markedly more energy, and extremely graphic on the headshots. Normally my preferred load for 10/22 is remington subsonics. Alot easier on the ears. Hope you keep going till end of season. Almost a year since I watched this video. I walk slow and head hunt. @@KyleTurnerHunter I had my 1st misfire. Just racked another round and went to town. Now that the bow hunters are out of Jim Edgar State Park, I may go out there for squirrels. They have grey and giant alpha male fox squirrels the size of cats. I ordered the old school OEM Ruger dove tail mount off ebay. I am gonna put on BKL 1" rings. Gonna scrap the tech sights. Gonna tap the oem front sight back in. Watching ebay for another 4x simmons scope either Japanese or Phillipines made and not the Chinese made ones that are readily available. It has a 32 mm bell. This way I can use both the scope and the iron sights for close in work as I have that rig on my 18.5 barreled rifle. The 22 inch 10.22 is much quieter with that extra 4 inches of barrel with comparing both with subsonics. Play with some cci standards and remington subsonics. The hollow point subsonics are better if you want body shots. Much more forgiving. But they don't like -15. I have recovered them in the squirrel in extremely cold temps. They mushroomed great. This was a head into the body shot on a big fox squirrel. They like to sun and fan their tails in the tree tops this time of year. I try and not always does it work out, but I try to walk into them with the sun at my back in their eyes slowly. I also never make eye contact till I am aiming at them.

    Today was my first winter hunt, even though we won’t see snow here in Arkansas till February when the season is closed. I learned real quick I’m going to have to change my tactics.

      @@KyleTurnerHunterFirstly, I'm going to get in place well before daylight. Second, use a .17 HMR instead of a .22. Third, do a lot more still hunting.
