- Sahl bin Sad (May Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once a man came to the Prophet (Peace and Salutations be upon him) and asked:
Oh Messenger of Allah, direct me towards an action that if I were to carry it out Allah will love me and the people will love me"...
(Ibn Majah)
This lecture discusses a broadened understanding of Zuhd (Renunciation of the world) and how different scholars defined this concept. The above mentioned hadith is considered by many scholars to be one of the four foundations of the Deen.

Zuhd is " Taqwa of the qalb" and of 'Zahira' also...lots and lots of our precedes have had high level of Taqwa & Zuhd...but they sacrificed the worldly goodies.
In fact they did not have any " love for dunya" left in their hearts..
A real Soofi is a real hero...to attain those levels one needs to cultivate love for Allah Subhana hu Taa'laa abundantly , live for Him, die for Him....
Qur'aan tells us repeatedly that this worldly life is ' mataa e qaleel'..
Beautiful lecture on Zuhd ,undoubtedly...
However, if one is trying to hoard all the wealth of the world
& is trying to be zahid. Doesn't work that way...There was one and only Hazrat Abdurrahman bin Au'f(R) who was very wealthy. And Usman Ghani (R) ...the majority of the Sahabaas were poor, yet each of them in his rank was Zahid and full of virtue.
Zhud is you make the world your slave and Allah your master, rather than becoming the slave of the world and forgetting Allah is the master.
