I shoot almost exclusively with the 85 mm for the last decade and its my FAVORITE lens. The results are just stunning.

Crushed it. I love seeing these real weddings - living in Pittsburgh, it rains all the time. We are always dealing with this and no first looks and just making it work!

So helpful to see a crowded cabin wedding! I get a lot of these out here in Colorado for getting ready and helped me see that a little area outside can really change the overall feel! Helps me realize that the "first choice" is so important, like you said. And helps me realize that I need to advocate for good lighting instead of going with "what is" in the bridal getting ready room.

I loved the photos and the details, I'm impressed by the level of quality of the photos at the point where one step wrong would be overexposed. I think if I saw the photos in my camera I would think that these photos would be over, still trying to learn so much from this! Thanks for the video!

I primarily do video work, but lately I've been the emergency second shooter for a wedding photographer friend, since her second shooter bailed on her two weddings in a row. Have been learning a lot.
I usually just stick with the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 on my video work (since any shallower on video just looks bad), but man I would kill for that RF 85 1.2)

Hello from the UK! Congrats on producing top quality TH-cam videos! You're a natural in front of the camera. I often think about venturing into wedding photography but watching your rapport with the bride and mother, makes me feel quite inadequate! This is definitely where women have an edge in wedding photography as they can have an emotional empathy unlike us men! Also, im curious as why you don't use the R5? So much more scope to work with in post with the higher resolution! I have the RF85 1.2 and its incredible!

Only one negative I have with your channel, Kaitlin. The “byes” at the end sounds so goofy and nerdy. You have such an excellent and dignified presentation through the whole video - and that goes for all of your videos. Then the goofy “bye” at the end really drops it down from a 10 to a 2. Would love to see that discontinued.

Love your videos Katelyn, thanks for providing this great information! One question I have about using longer focal length lenses, is how it can impact the look of your subject. I'm a total amateur photographer, but I used to use my 70-200 for portraits for a similar reason you like the 85, because of the separation from the background and bokeh it provided. That said, my daughter would always hate how these pictures made her "face look fatter" : ). Ever since I've gone back to my 17-55 or 50 prime, she likes the look much more. Is 85mm pushing the longest you'd want to go for that reason? Is this something you take into account at all?

I do full body or portrait with the 135F2 and even group shot with the 70/200 2,8 and If I have enough space to be far enough... I do the group shot at 150 or even
    200mm
The end result is 10 times better than simply take the 24 or 35 mm for the group shot

I love longer focal lengths. I shoot events and always have longer glass with me. It is not uncommon for me to have the 200mm f2 L or 400mm f4 DO II on a body at all times.
