WDG3A Screaming Dynamic Brakes and Heavy Smoking!

    Train: 56225 Bengaluru-Tumakuru Passenger.
    The afternoon service of the ever-popular Bangalore-Tumkur Passenger storms into Soldevanahalli with its loco for the afternoon runs - Guntakal WDG3A 13137. The loco can be seen screaming on dynamic brakes as it fights to slow down to a stop and eventually manages to stop just before the level crossing. 6 of the 18 coaches overshot one end of the platform which is designed for around 14-15 coaches. The train was running late by over 30 minutes and hence the pilots let the 3100hp ALCO loose as they took off from the station. Enjoy the hard braking and smoking show put up by this diesel monster! :)

    The sounds of my childhood , ALCO's seem like living , fire breathing creatures as compared to the WAG, WAP etc

      notching 8,,,,no neccesary,,,if the engineer applies steps,,,,2,,,,4 6,,,,and 8 less smoke and equal acceleration...

      Is my fault,in my country,and in USA are called engineers..this 4 strokes engines need some time to the charger blow air to the cylinders,when the engine run at 800 rpm,the smoke is few,because the charger blow at his rated rpm,, and the atomize spay diesel is better too.

    the alco starts all the train at ralenti,the engine has a good torque at low rpm,the problen is when apply throttle (the comment is down this),

      This is quite normal. No emergency braking.

    this alco souds better,but I insist,,the charger!! this is the problem,,at ralenti,the engine runs approx350 rpm,,and apply throttle,,the charger doesn"t work ,,and a lot of fuel doesn"t burn,,in totallity,,,and black smoke,of course,,when the charger works,,the smoke attenuates,for me the engine has an incorrect charger,i Know enough this problem,this smoke isn"t normal.I commented in other sites about this locomotive,,but i like her,,,because runs and runs a lot of years,in my country,,we have alcos,,modified charger,and they smoke less.As with less power,we have two Wdg3a only,,and with the charger modified in my country...and pulls a lot of wagons (coaches).with less smoke than the others no modified.

    I thought we'll lose the chugging of 4-stroke diesels forever with the phasing-out of Alcos (EMDs are 2-stroke). Glad that IR bought those GE 4-stroke diesels (4G and 6G).

      Yes, but once these older ALCOs are phased out, the DL560C soundtrack will be a thing of the past. The new ones sound more like very refined tractors. Not complaining though, for me a diesel is a thing of beauty.

    EMD dynamic brakes have less sound it seems

      Yes they are a different type, and much newer so they just have a low whining noise.

    Good acceleration in alco due to goods engine wdg3a, wdm3d willnot get this much pickup

      WDM3D will outpace the WDG3A every day of the week. It's more powerful than the WDG3A.

    This Locomotive Loco Pilot was knotch up from 1-8 Quickly. And spoiling Our Indian locomotive and also polluting environment.

      yeap,the correct answer, the loco pull >20 coaches, patience,wait and slowly change the steps, 2.3 4. 5. 6 .7 and the end 8.I know what happen if the engine needs a lot of torque at low rpm. at notch 8. No,the answer is,the fuel dont burn totallity,ans the smoke is black. If the engineer wais a few seconds ,tha result is equal. in 2 strokes,like EMD the smoke is quite less, bacause 1 turn= 2 strokes=1 cycle.
