As a fan from since I was 10, getting to see companions of the past like Ace, Tegan, Mel, Jo, and Ian in this episode as well as the old doctors now, it brought me to tears
I came at this being a bit suspicious but by the time I saw the varous doctors and companions from my youth, you could have had Nardole pointing at me saying "Look, he's having an emotion". I was really choked-up afterwards. When I saw Ian, I thought "oh wow, Jess is going to flip when she sees him". The interaction between Ace and her doctor really moved me.
Me too. I make no apologies for finding the Chibnall/Whitaker era a chore most of the time. Not because the Doctor was female, but because she was largely rubbish, her companions were largely rubbish, and the writing has been terrible. This was the first time Jodie Whitaker actually felt like the Doctor to me, but Tegan and Ace appeared and I was fully on board. Then Graeme, the shining light of this whole era returned and we had a companion support group and this became the best of this era and good overall.
@@BiggestDawgEver this episode infuriated me because that was the quality Chibnall was capable of producing, and chose not to, with the exception perhaps of Spyfall and Fugitive of the Judoon.
Yes, the appearances of 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8 weren't spoiled and of course, Ian, Jo and Mel were also surprises. I think Bradley Walsh's appearance wasn't spoiled either (at least not in the official teasers) but I kinda expected him to make a return. Tegan and Ace were teased as major characters returning and of course the Master, the Daleks and the Cybermen with Ashad have been teased officially as well. All in all, I was happy that the episode surprised me, a person who looks for news at every corner.
I loved the Broadchurch homage, having David and Jodie stand in front of the Broadchurch cliffs.... Also having Joe Sims (Nigel) make his first appearance in the show, too.
Oh, that's nice, I know all about Broadchurch but haven't actually seen it: nice that there's an easter egg in there for those who have, but that to someone who hasn't, it's still beautiful scenery. The art department on this show is just.... well, it's the BBC on their centenary year, nuff said.
@@AlanCanon2222 Yes, it was a beautiful scene. There is a video with a whole lot of cgi that was done by a former youtuber that just made fan videos before he got hired to work on the show. The cliffs in the background are the cliffs in Broadchurch. The limestone arch didn't feature in Broadchurch, but it is located nearby. Chris Chibnall is from that area, as well. I love that series! I cant argue with that... but the forced regeneration Jodie should have been played by Jodie, but acting with the persona of Sacha... otherwise it would be the Master being the Master. But Jodie being the Master...! That would be priceless.
Your levels of empathy are incredible. I totally lost my shit when Five spoke to Tegan and Seven spoke to Ace. But I knew the story behind both of them. I love that you didn't but still recognized that there was something significant going on and reacted just as emotionally as I did.
So many mixed feelings on this era as a whole for me, but this was about as good of an ending to this run as I could have hoped for, messy, but extremely enjoyable and heartfelt. Very glad Thirteen's run ended on a high note.
Yes, it truly is awesome and enjoyable to watch; however, I totally wished that 13th Doctor should have kissed Yaz before she went away from her! Also PS, I also wished that 13th Doctor would team up and meeting both River Song and Doctor Who's Daughter! Take Care and Be Inspired, D.W. Crew! WF-😎 🤩😍😉✌️👌!
Great reaction 😁 glad you enjoyed the episode! Just to let you know, this was actually part of the BBC’s Centenary celebrations, which is why it included a lot of Doctor Who’s history.
Fun fact: Chris Chibnall wrote this special as a final episode to the show as a whole because he didn’t know if it was going to continue. He was done filming it when he got knowledge about the next showrunner, which was only 36 hours before the rest of us. The post-regeneration scene with David Tennant was filmed at a later date.
My parents moved to England when I was 10 in 1970. Jon Pertwee was my Doctor. I've followed the show since and I was a little annoyed at the start of Jodie's run (not with Jodie; she was brilliant) when they distanced themselves from its history. This episode was an emotional roller-coaster for me. It brought back the history that is so important to the common thread that is the Doctor. Also, it was great to see my 11 year old crush, Jo Grant. Jodie, you are forever a Doctor. 💚
William Russel (Ian) broke the world record for the longest gap in between TV appearances with this episode. 57 years since he was last on screen as Ian!!
Tom Baker was my 1st Doctor. One of my many favorite things about the series is how much they still acknowledge, and include the previous doctors and companions.
I get the feeling that Ian Chesterton (Russell) was supposed to be the one at the Dalek drilling site. I can hear him now.... 'The Daleks are still trying to remove the magnetic core of the Earth? Don't they ever give up?'
By the end of this I was so emotionally drained. I was sobbing throughout the episode and by the end I just couldn't stop 😭 even when David appeared. Though my tears I literally screamed out 'What!?' Just as he had said it, lol. Glad I wasn't the only one blindsided by it! I avoided any hint of spoilers and I'm so glad I did because it was a wild ride!
Ace and the 7th Doctor were part of my childhood and I loved that they were brought back in a great way to this special. And Ian. Wow! To see a 97 year old actor in a role that he left 56 years ago, that's epic. It's very nice to see Chibnal and the 13th Doctor end on a high note, this episode was one of the best I've ever seen. Thank's for a great reaction ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I was born at a pretty good time for a Doctor Who fans. I first saw it when I was very young at the tail end of the 4th Doctor and then got to see repeats of 1, 2 & 3 before 5 came along. So everything in this touched home and got the feels going, I was tearing up through most of it.
Seen all your modern and classic Who reactions so far and it's a pleasure. You seem like such a beautiful person and always have such a beautiful way of wording things. (Also anyone who's willing to react to 26 years of a TV show deserves a medal!)
I didn’t get that emotional at the Regeneration like I have done in the past, I think I was burnt out from getting exited over the past Doctors and companions all of who was a total shock. IAN, MEL, JO, TEGAN, ACE!! ❤❤ My Doctor was 7 and Ace being a child of the 80s so I got very animated when they were together again.
I remember the Fivish Doctors Reboot a parody with Davison, McGann, McCoy and Baker. As they weren't in that special with Matt Smith. Nice to have them here.
What an amazing end to a great era , Jodie and Mandip nailed those last scenes. Seeing everyone was so great , I am glad that Jodie companions left on their own terms and didn't die. Hopefully Jodie and Mandip return in Big finish in the future.
I've said it before, they never gave the characters a chance to shine. Jodie and Mandip could have carried the story from the start, but they wrote in extra characters which diluted the story too much. They were given a poor plot to work off throughout their run (which is a shame), fortunately they got a chance to really show what they are made of in this episode. I just wish they had a better team behind them from the start.
It occurred to me - and very appropriately for a TV program that's all about time travel - that with all the classic era Doctors and companions who appeared here before you encountered them in the regular sequence, now you *really* know how River felt. Also, Yaz is now in a very exclusive club of companions who've been with a Doctor for the entirety of their run. It's just her and Rose, I'm pretty sure!
Remember the special "The Day of the Doctor" "I never forget a face" "I know you don't. And in years to come, you might find yourself revisiting a few. But just... the old favorites, eh?
Jodie brought a lot to the role, she did the best she could with the material she had, and she did the role justice! I wish her all the best and hope to see her as The Doctor again one day! 💙
She was great as the doctor. I had a hard time watching her time because of the scripts she was given. It seemed like they didn’t want a female doctor to succeed.
@@nadinefeiler9204I'd say her take is Childish genious. With a capital on the childish. She really did seem like she was smart but the childish impulses overwrote it often. I really didn't like her era. I wanted to, but the writing was abysmal. I don't think she could have done a different take with these scripts if she wanted to. I watched seasons 11 and 12 and I didn't bother with 13 tbh. In the beginning it seemed like an imitation of Matt Smith - but it became it's own thing, for better or for worse (sadly mostly worse). Matt was childish but you could feel the wise old man underneith while Jodie just seemed childish and a bit careless at times. Also kinda arrogant. idk. She had a take on the Doctor, it just wasn't that good cause they wrote her badly.
Yeah, I felt sorry for Jodie, they ran her through the ringer with the plots. As much as I loved her companions as well, they diluted her by having too many at once. I would love to see her make a reappearance with a decent story, she's an amazing actress who fell victim to poor writing.
Technically you did meet Ace in the Sarah Jane tribute thingy, and Tegan (well, Janet Fielding.. sort off) in the Five-ish Doctors. But no one's gonna blame you for not remembering that. I was waiting for your reaction to seeing Ian and it was priceless.
It was such a GREAT surprise to see Ian, even if for a couple of seconds! I was watching the episode laying down, I literally jumped up when he showed up.
7:53 Tegan seemed to be mad at the doctor. Every time she showed it I was saying, “You’re the one who left not the other way around.” He (the 5th doctor) didn’t just drop her off and just leave.
8 Doctors in one special!!!! And several companions appearing towards the end, especially Ian Chesterton!! As the 9th Doctor would say,- Absolutely Fantastic!!!!
I got very emotional seeing Peter Davidson, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul Magann, seeing Tegan, Ace, Mel, Jo and even Ian I mean it was all so emotional. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The "blossomest blossom" from her regeneration speech is a direct quote from an interview with the legendary British screenwriter Dennis Potter. Aware he was dying, he looked out of his window and was struck by the beauty of nature, fizzing with the blossomest blossom in the last spring he would see.
Do you remember that scene in "The Crimson Horror' ...? ....The line about the getting "a gobby Australian to Heathrow Airport"? Now you know who he was talking about. heheh.
Apologies if this is mentioned elsewhere but - William Russell's return as Ian is a new Guinness World Record! Longest gap between appearances by the same actor playing the same character in a TV show 🙂
I love watching these Doctor Who reactions. I managed to watch the episode dry eyed but watching you get emotional over certain scenes had me in floods of tears. Thank you!!!! I needed to release that emotion. Keep going with these reaction videos you have such a great journey to come. Love you x
This episode was so emotional, had so much brilliant stuff. Ace and Tegan are companions to the 7th and 5th Doctors respectively. There were lots of things it introduced, and it was great seeing them all come back even though like you, I'm not even at either of them in my classic who watch through. The emotions were running so high, and seeing Ian there was amazing and I really think Jodie's last words were so fitting for her
They announced that David would be back for the 60th special because they did some outside city centre shooting that was always going to leak. And the fact that Ace and Tegan were in this one was in the Next Time trailer at the end of Flux. But they kept the classic doctors and other companions secret, and the fact that Jodie regenerated into David. Like you I've found this era a bit disappointing, but this was a really great finale for it, and Jodies final lines are perfect. Tag, you're it!
Thanks for that! The reason why there was more references to classic Who than usual was that the BBC are celebrating their centenary, so wanted this special to reflect how important the show has been, a major part of BBC history. For us fans it was like having a bonus anniversary special before next year's celebration 😃
Tegan and Ace were companions when I was a kid. Both really powerful and popular companions, perhaps the two most highly rated along with Sarah Jane, Jo and Jamie. So seeing them again was incredibly powerful for me.
My dad , who I loved died aged 45 and I was 9...... I and I remember soooooo clearly seeing a newspaper announcing that the first Dr Who was replaced by the 2nd... I was sad... Dad said life moves on son...... I still find it so moving
See 1, cry. 6, CRY, 5, CRYYYYYYYY, 8, weep like I've just been reunited with my best friend after years apart. Then the scene with 7 and Ace happened and I was a big ol' stupid puddle on the floor because 7 is special to me for so many reasons. But seeing Ian and Jo and Mel in the support group hurt me in the best way possible. I loved this unwieldy beast of an episode, and I loved everybody involved. Sacha is the Master to me. He's so unhinged, and he is loving it. I adore Jodie so much. She will be sorely missed. Hope she comes back in the 20th New Who anniversary year in 2025 if they do anything for that.
The 7th doctor and Ace were my first doctor and companion when I was a kid in the late 80’s so seeing them together again for one scene brought a tear to my eye, lovely little scene.
That was perfection. I got emotional with you there. Thanks so much. For reactions, you are the original and best for me. Can’t wait until you meet Tegan and the fifth Doctor in your current watch. You rock. X
Definitely worth checking out more episodes with Ace. This wasn't the first time she beat up a Dalek with her baseball bat! I was definitely surprised by some of the appearances!
I have not smiled like this watching Doctor Who in a long while. This episode made me feel like a kid staying up to watch reruns on my local PBS station. When you are done with all the Classic Who reacts, go back to this episode. It will warm the heart even more. 🙂
I got very emotional when I saw Tegan, who was one of the companions during my "formative" DW era, 1981-86 (and consequently, Peter Davison was one of my (2) formative "Doctors"). Ace I knew of, but had never met. But I also got teary when I saw Ian and Jo. And it's always a treat to see the former Doctors, and David Bradley's work has been magnificent. (Have you yet seen "An Adventure in Space and Time" (2013)? If not, you should. :) ) The other companion you missed was Mel, whom you haven't met yet. :)
Fantastic reaction Jess. Enjoyed your video almost as much as I enjoyed the episode. As you may remember, I've been a fan of Doctor Who since it began in 1963 and I can honestly say I haven't been this excited about the show going forward for years. Probably since the end of the Matt Smith era in fact.
We expected that your reaction to seeing William Russell, as Ian again, would be something like that! And, of course, seeing Katy Manning again is a blessing. What a lovely moment at the end of this video. Maybe we owe some of our kindness to The Doctor himself - or to his concept. There have been many creators behind the character over the decades. Some 'oops' times, some 'well, that really shouldn't have happened - or did that actually happens?' along the way. I think, in the end, if something is good at heart, then good will ultimately prevail. We can hope! Bless you, Jess and brave heart.
I loved your reaction. We were spoiled David's return and also Ace (favourite classic companion so far for me) and Tegan (also don't know her yet, still sound awesome as a conpanion). The classic doctors was a surprise and I'm so happy to see them again. Especially Eight doctor who is my absolute favourite. It was wired to see him though, I'm more used to hear him as a voice in my head. As a big finish on Spotify is much more easy to find in my country than classic who episodes on illegal sites I'm classic doctors fan on audio. I'm not used to seeing any of them to be honest. Buy I'm so happy.
This is my first time watching your channel. I love seeing someone other than myself get emotional over the doctor. I kinda wished I hadn't known about David coming back. Your reaction was so beautiful indeed.
12:51, oddly enough, The Dalek Master Plan did (accidentally?) involve a rogue Time Lord. The Meddling.... Monk! Hmm.... Speaking of Russian History, if the RasMaster bit could be placed in 1908, it could tie in with Tunguska (something apparently crashing deep in Siberia).
Despite the whole Jodie Whittaker Era being an erratic mess, The Power of the Doctor was still a solid end to her run. Despite being chaotically messy, this was an gloriously entertaining mess with both Whittaker and Mandip Gill being the true beating heart of the story. Seeing both Tegan and Ace made this Classic Who fan truly happy, not to mention the other Doctors and companions that showed up. Also, ra-ra-Rasputin will forever be imprinted in my mind!
Hi Sesska, I’m sort of in the same boat as you. When I was a kid I used to turn on the PBS channel in the 70’s and I would see Tom Baker’s Doctor Who. I hadn’t watched Doctor Who till the 90’s when a Doctor Who movie came on the Fox Channel starring Paul McGann and Eric Roberts as the Master. My Doctor Who experience then began with Christopher Eccelston. I was going into this episode not knowing anything, I hadn’t seen the other companions before. But, seeing them made me cry like you. I enjoyed the episode and I wasn’t spoiled by anything either so the ending caught me by surprise too. I loved your reaction and I was crying right along with you!

Same for me. Was rather surprised it hit me that hard.
Same
Yeah didnt like this era at all. However this was a great regeneration episode. This hit all the marks.
@@BiggestDawgEver this episode infuriated me because that was the quality Chibnall was capable of producing, and chose not to, with the exception perhaps of Spyfall and Fugitive of the Judoon.
I loved the scene where Graham was trying to explain the Daleks to Ace, so hilarious.
You know the Ian cameo was going to get her.
Bradley was seen on location, but I expected it to be a short cameo, so I definitely got a lot more than I expected.
I loved the Broadchurch homage, having David and Jodie stand in front of the Broadchurch cliffs.... Also having Joe Sims (Nigel) make his first appearance in the show, too.
I was wondering if that was the Broadchurch cliffs. I'm crying again. The nods to their shared histories, Who and otherwise and so potent.
David Tennant and Olivia Colman as adversarial buddy cops is just golden... And it is a stellar mystery.
@@sallyatticum I've sneak-watched key scenes from Broadchurch, and, I get it. I know I'll eventually watch the entire series when it comes my way. This Kentucky boy ain't above having some serious Olivia Colman crush-action (yes, we all drink moonshine and none of us have any shoes, as we get together with our friends for bourbon-swilling AbFab marathons).
@@AlanCanon2222 Hahah. I dated a guy from Kentucky for a while. He brought me some moonshine in a jar when he came back after a holiday home. Sadly, We never watched AbFab together. Nor did we swill bourbon. We did smoke some weed....
Can we just take a second to appreciate Sacha's version of The Master!!! The man is GOOD!!!!!!
Absolutely!
Good but missy was great
I cant argue with that... but the forced regeneration Jodie should have been played by Jodie, but acting with the persona of Sacha... otherwise it would be the Master being the Master. But Jodie being the Master...! That would be priceless.
I think he would have made a great (Good) Doctor too.
@@tenmark7055 YES! That would've been a better plot. The Master in The Doctor's body undoing all her good work.
RIP William Russell 1924-2024 at 99 years old RIP to one of the first Companions to Doctor Who.
In a Matt Smith episode the Doctor says "I once spent a hell of a long time trying to get a gobby Australian to Heathrow Airport." that was Tegan.
Yes I remember
"Last time I saw you, you were half cat."
"WHAT?!?!"
Yeah, you'll get to that Sesska. Eventually XD
The bit with 5+7 talking with Teegan and Ace might be my favourite part of the episode tbh.
That would have been Cool 😄
By the end of this I was so emotionally drained. I was sobbing throughout the episode and by the end I just couldn't stop 😭 even when David appeared. Though my tears I literally screamed out 'What!?' Just as he had said it, lol. Glad I wasn't the only one blindsided by it! I avoided any hint of spoilers and I'm so glad I did because it was a wild ride!
Tegan Jovanka, "the mouth on legs" which is a great description of the actress Janet Fielding. She's a hoot. Sophie Aldred, Ace. Iconic Classic Who.
As you watch all the Doctors in Classic Who and their Companions, you will remember this Episode.
My Doctor was 7 and Ace being a child of the 80s so I got very animated when they were together again.
Honestly it was a really hopeful regeneration, didn't leave me sad at least
I remember the Fivish Doctors Reboot a parody with Davison, McGann, McCoy and Baker. As they weren't in that special with Matt Smith. Nice to have them here.
Last 3 min of this were so sweet, I’m glad you feel loved here in the Who fandom, we all love you and your channel
31:05 Seeing the mix of tears and laughing was precious.
I think the 9th doctor had companions before rose
Remember the special "The Day of the Doctor"
"I never forget a face"
"I know you don't.
It seemed like they didn’t want a female doctor to succeed.
what for example ?
Because even at the end of her run i have no idea what her take on the doctor is.
@@petrolhead0387 The comics are actually nice - I mean... ok they pair her up with 10 but like - it's decent
Well, he did once...
Ive been SOOO looking forward to this. Ace/7th god me sobbing, Ian turning up got me hysterically sobbing
100% me on both!
@@chrisleneil same here!!
I envy you the journey ahead with Classic Who, Sesska. It's a lot of material.
Great reaction ! I love the moment when David appears
Thank you for this reaction

30:45 This is the face of someone who was expecting Ncuti Gatwa.... 😅🤭😉👍
Love you x
I have watched this reaction multiple times, it's one of my favorites. Watching again today having heard of the passing of William Russell ❤ rip.
I was blown away by seeing the old companions AND the old Doctors!!!! This is a great departure story for Jodie Whittaker!!!!! I LOVED IT!!!!
I was thrilled to see Mel at the end because I LOVE her....but when I saw Ian....bawling my eyes out!
Not sure how she was there - I thought when she left she wasn't on Earth and she was supposed to a long time in the future.
The one you've missed the red head was Mel played by Bonnie Langford who travelled with the seventh doctor just before Ace appeared.
FINALLY! A genuine blind reaction of 13th’s regeneration! My shock was the same, I did not know 10 (seriously) was going to show up!
I loved how earlier you were like "I'm sure this is fascinating to people to see "their" companions with "their" Doctor. And then you saw Ian... :)
All 5 has to say is "Adric", and I just fall apart. Earthshock might not be my favourite story, but that ending stays with you.
57 years between Ian's last episode with the First Doctor and this episode. The LONGEST time between appearances in a series.
you look unbelievably good for this reaction! Absolutely glowing. Love your DW reactions, one of my fav channels for it.
This episode was so emotional, had so much brilliant stuff. Ace and Tegan are companions to the 7th and 5th Doctors respectively. There were lots of things it introduced, and it was great seeing them all come back even though like you, I'm not even at either of them in my classic who watch through. The emotions were running so high, and seeing Ian there was amazing and I really think Jodie's last words were so fitting for her
going to be interesting when one day you've seen all of classic doctor who how you would rank all the doctors
I am so happy I could come here and see you share in my reaction to Ian. Cried like a baby, I was stunned and excited. Loved this reaction.
Thanks for that! The reason why there was more references to classic Who than usual was that the BBC are celebrating their centenary, so wanted this special to reflect how important the show has been, a major part of BBC history.
For us fans it was like having a bonus anniversary special before next year's celebration
😃
This was fun to watch with you. I skipped over the 13 Doctor era but the return of David Tennant has hooked me back in! Can’t wait
"The Curator" from the Day of the Doctor foreshadowed this moment
He did say to Matt Smith's doctor, "And in years to come, you might find yourself revisiting a few, but just...the old favourites, eh?"
William Russell is 97b years old, so happy they finally got him in before, you know...
So happy!
Also, ra-ra-Rasputin will forever be imprinted in my mind!
replace the word erratic with awful
@@kjo1849 replace awful with very very shit should not exist
This one was a lot of fun! Some real sweet nods to the past and setting up some strange times in the future.
I've been watching Who since 1981, I was barely three at the time, and here I am still watching and enjoying.
Been watching your channel as well, for several months now. Entertaining and insightful and funny.
It's been good to see what you've liked from Classic Who, and it'll be fun as well to see when you encounter moments and stories touched on here.
I can't believe that it has already been over 7 months since this was made
22:12 She almost always called him Professor.
As soon as I realized Ian was in this episode I HAD to see your reaction.
You're gonna love Ace. She was and still is brilliant.
Most badass companion ever, yet still very vulnerable.
It really is so interesting seeing your perspective as someone who doesn't yet know the companions and backstory. I'm actually glad that you hadnt "caught up" so to speak as it'll give a fresh perspective on classic who when you finally do get round to finding out what these references are all about.
