I appreciated his honesty and telling us that monastic life is not for everyone due to its difficulty. Still, just like the monks, we should engage in the fast even as they do and pray daily as they do.
When God calls us we can't resist even if we think we can. One of the most important prayers,at least for me, is the prayer asking God for enlightenment.Also,I would like to comment on something in this video concerning depression. I feel depressed because as much as I would like to be able to live a life as the good father described I know that I can't.
That was powerful. It’s important for orthodox Christian’s to recognize geographically what has taken place in lands outside of the Mediterranean and be accountable for the lives of people who demonstrate Christ
Fr Seraphim, the weather is the same here in the west of Ireand. Once I have central heating I am fine. God bless your endevours. I am catholic I find the early Irish saints incredible. They fasted & prayed. I have been to Lough Derg in Donegal a few times . St Patricks purgatory. A penitional island . You fast on black tea & toast for 3days & stay up first night mostly outside . Do beds during the day ie you walk on ; remains of beehive huts which are stony all done in bear feet . I did when young some do it into old age. It was all inspired by irish saints who believed in penance for sins. You have undertaken something beautiful for God may God bless & keep you.

Can someone explain the reason why they would kick new monks out for no reason. I understand that it’s a test but it kind of seems off to me. In other words, I don’t understand why someone should ask for forgiveness for something they didn’t do.
He said it... it was used as a mean to test the monks... their dedication to the monastic life. Those who were tough in their decision would stay at the gates of the outside wall and patiently wait until received back in. Sometimes it would mean living there for several months or even years. That is how monastics of those days were having a will of steel.
