    I TRIED THIS THIS MORNING AND EVERYTHING FELT MUCH LIGHTER😃😃😃 finally hit a new deadlift PR. It's amazing what visualizing the floor as a giant leg press can do. haha loving the content! 👌👍

    Dude! I posted a formcheck on a bunch of subreddits, IRC channels and Discords and everyone commented on my deadlift saying it looks fine, but after seeing this video I finally understand what hurts my back! And how did nobody else figure this out, wow.

    OMG Troy is the exactly what I've been doing! My hips shoot up so fast and the bar hasn't moved much so you're forced to pull on the bar but have no leg drive (because the legs are almost straight) and the back takes the total brunt.

    Nice. I'm a trainer and I just fig'd out 3 weeks ago that I was deadlifting wrong. Ironically, I had others doing it correctly, but until I filmed myself I didn't know I was doing it wrong. From one day to the next I added about 60 lbs to my lift.

    ive found that using the trap bar deadlift, is a great way to teach the leg drive you're talking about here.

    Hey Brendan, I just watched this video after saving this into watch later when you upload, never too late lmao!
    Can I summarize the whole point of this to be: make sure the deadlift is consistent in terms of hips and back engagement/execution. In another word, making sure your hips don't shoot up way earlier than your lower back. And of course remembering to push the ground for more leg drive. But then again, I'm kinda confused at 8:45, she does it really nicely, only noticeable (as you just mentioned) mistake is shin/knees are being locked out sooner than lower back, is that what you're saying that we should not lock out the knee sooner than lower back?
    Thanks in advanced, looking forward for more informative vid like this, I always appreciate your knowledge!

    how the cue "press with your quads" would correct his? the function of the quads is to extend the knees, and the goal is to keep your hips angle opened as you extend the knees

      there is a difference between PRESSING with your quads (i.e. using quads to overcome resistance) and merely EXTENDING knees without much of the press work. The former, coupled with high chest helps your hip angle and knee angle open simultaneously. The latter causes the bar stay low with your butt rising up (knee angle opens up much earlier than hip angle).

    I actually went from the after or corrected form to the bad form. I've been trying to focus on getting my hips wedged under the bar but it's causing my hips to go up in an attempt to get them closer.

    I got short arm and torso so I use straighter legs I don't think I got leg drive tho my back took over like it always does

    i feel like i can add more leg drive with a wider stance. when i try and produce leg drive it seems to put more pressuer on lower back. the weight only moves when my body is near parallel. trap bar deadlifts feel good though. anyhow your info is great and will try and impolment some of it.

    I experience pain in my forearms when performing deadlifts. What am I doing wrong?

      Shelley Pope-Keitt try using the double overhand grip and training your forearms separately.

      Also maybe try doing farmer carries on your shoulder/arms days. I've only had issues with my grip but I can definitely feel a burn in my forearms when i do those

      Warm up more? I do a lot of farmers carry for better grip. And i train up to weight without straps

      Johnny Fender are you new to lifting? beginners cant quite tell from soreness and actual pain. If you feel "pain" in your lower back you'd have trouble even walking or tying your shoes.

    I saw a video on Omar's channel of Josh Hancott showing the sumo DL as a two part lift. Lock out the knees early and then come through with the hips. Do you think this still lines up with your advice if the back angle does not get more horizontal during the lift? Meaning the hips don't rise faster than the shoulders.

      Good question! So the knees should lockout before the hips in the sumo deadlift but it's BARELY before and if you have long femurs it should be almost simultaneous. However the same form applies. I didn't make it very apparent but I meant to say once the bar has cleared knee height your quads are basically done performing work. From their the knees can lock as soon as possible however if you just let it happen naturally the form will work it's self out. If you're in a proper sumo position and have shorter femurs the knees will lock quickly and if you don't they'll lock around the same time as the hips. I haven't seen that specific video but if he preached to mentally lock the knees before your hips that's incorrect because it will happen naturally if you're in a good position and properly moving. So yes both this and what josh said can and will happen for a lot of people. I hope that makes sense.

    my legs are growing and I don't do dead lifts. I have lower back problems so dead lifts are out. You can do other things.

      MoreChannelNoise definitely don't think you have to do deadlifts for leg growth and never said that. This video simply just stated that deadlifts can definitely grow your butt/hams really well but only if done correctly. This video demonstrates the proper way. You can definitely grow your legs without deadlifts :)
