      this is actually how the chinese system work. If you don't "behave" to a certain standard - which might be adjusted to the needs of the party - you can lose your right to travel, to apply for housing/credit/schools,...
      That might work for some time. But even the most collectivist society will be sick of it at some point i hope.

      Now the economy and country is waning, foreign powers go over our heads to negotiate with the EU and you don't like it, so you decided to just bitch about young people, while you had the most overprivileged generation in all of human history. Then you have the gall to tell someone in a completely neccessary job that will always be needed they don't deserve enough money to live, it's not your fault your generation fucked up the environment AND the economy in an idiotic stroke (pun intended), that YOU deserve lower taxes despite having more than enough to live, the younger poor people should pay for everything. YOU deserve social security and a retirement, but milennials don't, because you say so.

    I'm on hold "because my call is important" - but not important enough to answer in a timely fashion. All the follow-up stuff is really just trying to gauge whether your frustration with the low priority you've been given is going to cost someone future sales. How long you have to line up for customer service tells you volumes about the quality of products and customer service. The review thing just lets people think they are important and venting their opinion matters so they won't simply seek out better products instead of helping companies with their consumer research and data mining.

    • @jespermadsen9297
      @jespermadsen9297 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is quite a lot of consideration going into finding that golden limit between getting as many people to hang up as possible without it affecting sales too much. Also making things as troublesome to do as possible without customers getting "stubborn" and angry enough to stay on it and cancel. That last one is why it is so difficult to complain or change services sometimes, where they resort to confusing formulas that don't work or force you to call in or even write snail-mail to do these things.
      It is considered and studied.

    • @arx754

      I will take those surveys following a call to a service center because I learned that good results mean the worker might get bonuses, etc. It's my way of looking out for the "little guy" is these big companies. And, yes, I give them 5 stars if they were nice and TRIED to help me, even if they weren't able to. Matter of fact, I've never NOT given the worker five stars and will add a few words (if asked for) to "extol" the worker for being so pleasant, helpful, etc. After all, they're working some crap job at a call center, so if I can help their pay a bit, why not? Only takes a couple of minutes.

    • @Malt454
      @Malt454 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@arx754 - I do look at it a little differently, I guess. When I have to call customer service, and it is far more frequently lately, I'm calling to have something fixed that I've already paid for to have work correctly the first time. I have nothing against the service representatives, but their trials and tribulations aren't my concern - when I do surveys about service, it's to give honest assessment about service (and a lot of it is far from exceptional), not to help with bonuses.

      I understand there can be several aspects to this, but about a year ago I considered traveling to an area I had passed through several times. I hadn't noticed the motel "situation" on previous trips and the town I was going to was out in "the sticks". 1 or 2 of the motels in the area had bad reviews, 1 mentioned bed bugs. But if the bad reviews didn't indicate a long term trend or a recent problem....I took them "with a grain of salt" so to speak.
      On the flipside, I don't go out to eat all that often but a few years ago went to a restaurant I thought had been recommended by a local alt newspaper. Well, the review wasn't recent, and the food was mediocre. CANNED veggies at a restaurant in Florida is a no-no in my book.
      They didn't ask me to do a survey, but that restaurant was closed for good within a year. (The night that I ate there less than a dozen people were having dinner there.)

    Really I think ratings systems are just a consequence of floor level employees not being empowered,or having the time, to fix things on a personal level for the consumer.
    Conceptually Rating systems make it easy for management to gauge health by comparing the ratings to a revenue chart. The rating doesn't matter unless both are bad numbers, and management aren't retards.
    Just another consequence of businesses needing to scale so large that word-of-mouth is a waste of time. Then enough business do this that other business HAVE to emulate this because "X is doing Y so should we" without bothering to have anything in place, or between the ears, to do something about bad ratings.
    Of course then there's the issue that those in the company that see the bad ratings before management are incentivized to remove those "bad" ratings, which is different from solving the actual problem. So pandering ensues, everything is GREAT!

    The rating thing is an integral part of internet shopping, the reason for it being that you can't see the item you are buying in person until you already bought it, so the only way to get an appropriate judgment of the product is to rely on what other people that have already bought it and seen it say about it. From here, people got used to weighing other people's opinion in other activities aswell. It's not unreasonable if handled properly.

    • @dudepool7530

      Yes, because unlike a millenial, some of us remember what life was like before this crap. Was it perfect? No. Were we constantly on guard and at each others throats about every little thing? No. Were we making slow, but positive and progressive changes in the world. Yes. Were there constant reports of violence being enacted by the left and right towards one another every other day? No.Coming from someone who was rased in the 90's, and was considered "extreamemly left", millenials have made a mockery of all the hard work progressives of the past have done. They have taken our wonderful ideals of peace, love, and acceptance, and turned it into fascism. You want irony? Antifa was fucking irony. Literally fighting fascism with fascism. They might say "fight fire with fire", but thats when using water has failed. Just because the "new liberals" do not have the patience to fight the good fight, in the way that would do the legacy of Dr. King proud, and show that Malcolm X wasn't murdered for nothing, doesn't mean they can tear this country down, and undo CENTURIES of patient and understanding change. Ya'll need to show up, sit down, and let your elders show you how to change the world, like we did when we were younger, not throw tantrums about because you want to tell a race how they should feel about their relationships. Fuck you millenials, I may *technically* be a part of that generation, but ya'll are too fucked in the head to get anything real done. Thats saying something coming from me...

If you don't offer it then the only stuff that gets out there are reviews by cranks that had a bad day. It was a retail mantra in the 90s that one pissed off customer (often not even the retailers fault) would go out and blab to everyone but happy customers seldom bother to tell anyone unless directly asked. Ratings are completely voluntary so do one or not and move on. Customers should not be rated in most cases.

I've had service employees tell me I need to rate them 10s across the board to get positive responses from their bosses, which strikes me as highly manipulative on the part of the company. The process is unfair, unrealistic, and should be discarded.

    I only do reviews when I get shitty service but it is my bad luck that places that give me shitty service don’t usually do surveys. I always get surveys from places that give good or reasonably good service

    You want a good laugh? Go on amazon, pull up the most insignificant meaningless thing you can imagine, and read the reviews. I do it often and it's a fucking laugh riot.

    There also needs to be a little bit of a sign next to every review something that let’s the audience know what your percentage of positive versus negative reviews are. If I see a negative review from somebody who only writes negative reviews all the time everywhere probably doesn’t mean much other than they are crazy. If I see a negative review from somebody who always writes positive reviews it is probably more likely legit

    Bill Maher sounding more and more like a libertarian.
    Good.

    • @jeffbaer5851
      @jeffbaer5851 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but he's still got his common sense so he's not going to join your Tea Party militia. Libertarians ONLY care about the liberties THEY want (which usually revolve around a death spiral of taxation and "framer's intent" because they don't want to pay taxes and contribute their due to the social contract). Just like D's and R's only care about the freedoms and priorities THEY want, which are equally as asinine.
      Bill is actually an INDEPENDENT. The only political affiliation that makes sense. It's like being an agnostic, where you reject having some sort of "knowledge" of an afterlife that NO HUMAN BEING WILL EVER UNDERSTAND EVER EVER EVER. Independents reject being pigeonholed, choosing rather to judge issues based on their individual merit. Unlike Libertarians who must filter EVERY single issue through their own personalized Libertarian filter, again, usually boiling down to whether it should be taxed, and the answer is ALWAYS no. It's just as bad as being an R or a D and it leads to the same ultimate end of fanatacism and demagoguery and violence.
      In case I wasn't clear enough: f**k libertarians.

    I don't know I kind of like certain ratings. I pay more attention to why someone gave it one or two stars then I do too why someone gave it five stars. It tells you something about the product . Not so much with restaurants though because people just like to bitch .

    An honest review of Pacific Wilderness dive shop would have alerted me NOT to waste my time. Instead I had to find out at great physical risk and my precious time- they have no wheel chair access! Also they choose NOT to serve and sell to POC and people with a physical disability! Just walked out of Pacific Wilderness-San Pedro Jason,manager&his staff&other caucasian customers all ganged up on me&violated ADA. still need good mask& snorkel!
