Not since Kyle Rittenhouse have we seen a defendant do such a convincing job on the stand. I also thought the defense reconstruction team landed a lot of blows.
We’ve just watched a sociopath testify on the stand. He’s a trial attorney who knows how to play a jury and the system. His level of obfuscation and manipulation in court, when considering the gravity of the charges, is beyond scary. What we learned today: 1). AM will go to any lengths for his own self-interests 2). He’s morally bankrupt

Alex talks about Paul leaving guns and clothes all over the place. Yet his excuse for not providing a shirt that could clear his name is because he has clothes all over SC. If I knew a shirt could prove my innocence I think I'd be tearing up every place I ever stayed at to find my shirt. Problem for him, he can't produce the shirt because it's probably wrapped up with the 2 guns.
I appreciate this judge more and more as the trial goes on: no frills, plain, efficient, speaks just enough-not too much, gives explanations and justifications, not overly controlling-but there are boundaries, seems unphased regarding any eventual verdict-whatever the jury decides (or does not decide, for that matter).
I just want to add that I do like and respect the judge, and offer my condolences to him and his family for the recent loss of his son. Prayers to all suffering this loss. Liz
He's just lost his son? Omg that's horrendous. Losing your son is something you never recover from. I know unfortunately. It's the most devastating thing you can experience. To understand, you have to endure this yourself and that no one wishes on their very very worst enemy. 💔 How this judge can still work is beyond amazing. Bless his heart.
I heard his son had passed two days before the trial. Poor man. He has done wonderfully despite the tragic loss. I pray peace and comfort for him and his family.
As a former lawyer, you can tell Alex knows how to manage jurors. He faces them as he answers questions as if he is working to gain their trust and belief in his version of events. He is certainly a master at fooling folks. He’s like Humpty Dumpty and he’s fallen OFF THE WALL.
He dosnt sound like he'd be capable. No grit. No real dark side. Just drugs and a very lost in his life. He's got too much emotion. That's what 1/3 of the jury's thinking. If they are thinking anything at all. Someone said two jurors looked like they were nodding off.

Such bullshit! He went back to the house at 8:53 after killing his family. He can’t say if he dozed off or not inside a 7 minute period? He arrived at the house at 8:59 and scrubbed up and started calling and texting people at 9:06 to create his alibi. Who could be in doubt or hoodwinked by his rambling?
When Poot stated the prosecution thought he must have rinsed off with hose at the kennel & rode golf cart up to house buck nekkid.. Very good possibility!!! He very well couod have done that.. out in the middle of nowhere.. no one would see him

Listening to him telling the 911 operator that Maggie and Paul were dead repeatedly makes me wonder why the big show of pacing and continually asking the 1st officer on the seen, "Are they dead?"" "Are you sure they're both gone?" He knew, just from the description of Paul alone, he didn't need LE to tell him what he already knew.

I seems to me that at some time Alex stated the shooter had thought about the shooting for a long time. How would he know?………unless he was the guilty one.

The opening questions strike me as weird. If anyone asked me “did you blow your son’s head off” I think I’d literally have a breakdown. That was so aggressive.
"I did her wrong, I did him wrong" is what he says about the clients he stole from...sounds just like the accidental murder confession in the car when he says, "I did them so wrong".
Funny how Alex IMMEDIATELY blamed the murders on boat accident people, and not on any of the multitude of people that he had RIPPED OFF. If it was my family, and I had committed such heinous and constant acts of larceny and fraud, I would think that someone might be taking revenge upon ME. I think he resented Maggie and Paul because because A. He stole to "make their lives better". B. Maggie and Paul spied on his pill activity and "talked to" him about it. C. There were always undercurrents of "Team Maggie & Paul", and "Team Alex & Buster". I think Paul was not on Alex's side, but on his mom's. Paul was disapproving of Alex, and that irked Alex, because Alex had risked so much to keep up the family's fine lifestyle. I think Buster was on Alex's "team", and more malleable. He did not pose a threat to Alex. He could be gaffed off with excuses. Maybe there was a divide between Buster and Handsome. That, in and of itself, could have been a source of contention...that Paul's good looks were celebrated. I think Alex was so wracked by being caught out stealing, and he knew it was just the tip of the iceberg. He felt cornered and trapped and he lashed out and got rid of the two people who had benefitted most from his career of stealing.

I don't see how you can denigrate the character of a man who's been charged with murder by talking about financial crimes and stealing from clients and looking them in the eye while you're lying your ass off to them!
He admitted he lied. Not only about the going to the kennels but about every else. Lied and lied. And is still lying. He blames it on his “addiction”. He should be asked “who do you think killed your wife and son?”. No other suspects. None given by the defense. He is the only suspect with a motive.
@@potheadzndrama215 It appears that AM was the only suspect. If there were others, it did not come out during any testimony. There were a couple of people that law enforcement did verify their whereabouts at the time of the murders, like Buster Murdaugh and C. B. Rowe (sp) so maybe they were initially suspects but the investigators approach was to try to eliminate AM as a suspect and after they could not he was arrested. Hope that answers your question.
He is the only suspect because the evidence that could have or would have proven otherwise was never seen, collected or literally destroyed by incompetent law enforcement. That is a FACT that has been proven over and over. The things you want to use to condemn Alex are ALL circumstantial and could be used against any of us to be pinned for these crimes. The fact that he had an addiction is not a funny or laughing matter and not to be taken lightly. Judging by your comments you have no history or real experience with addiction especially as bad as this man was going through. I believe he did a lot of damage financially and emotionally to others through his wrongdoings, but did he kill his wife and son? Nope

He reminds me of Jodi Arias with that talking too much and telling waaay too much detail….the nicknames seem like a pathetic attempt to look like a loving father and wanting sympathy….No real tears the entire time until he takes the stand….not a good look….I think they made him lose weight too to look more fragile and old….And I’m convinced the chapstick he used before he got up there was menthol vapors to force tears and snot…and I think he popped pills in the bathroom 😅

In the Sheriff’s bodycam on the night of the murders, Alex Murdaugh told the Sheriff Deputy that he was at the house for 45 minutes by himself and then he was gone for an hour to an hour and a half to go visit his mother at Almeda. He began the lie that he wasn’t at the kennels at 8:45 just before the murders from the very beginning the night of the murders. The Prosecutor needs to show this bodycam footage and the jury will know the truth.
And he did at the end of his cross examination.. when he slowly corralled A.M. into the "factors" as to why he lied to SLED.. then BOOM!!.. played the Sgt Daniel Greene bodycam footage!! BUSTED!! Just watch the look on his face when Creighton Plays that footage then starts asking him about each "factor".. He KNEW he had fd up!!!
Who wouldn’t be telling cops “I was just with them! How could this have happened?” Instead he lied about being there and tries to bribe his mother’s caregiver into lying about how long he was there.
I agree 100%.. He & I are close to the same age & size Im 60 & 6'2" @ 235lbs .. he at 55 & 6'4" @ 245lbs.. Ive had 2 spinal surgeries.. i have been on pain management for over 12 yrs.. i am prescribed Lortab 10mg .. 90 per month (3 per day).. IF!!! i take 2 at one time.. within an hour I am nauseous at my stomach!!!!.. the amount he claims he was taking would have been a 30mg Oxy .. EVERY 15 minutes!!!!!.. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY!! He would be DEAD!!!..YRS AGO!! i KNEW he was lying through his teeth when he testified to that!! I cannot fathom how he thought anyone would believe that!!
I grew up in the 14th district, Hilton Head, before it was a big tourist spot. No, you're much more likely to hear Bubba, Shorty, Red etc. Never heard anyone say Po Po unless they were referring to the police and that was in more recent time.

I hope Court TV viewers and someone from the Prosecutors office, heard what I heard, when Alex was on the stand today (2/23/2023). He loosened up, and let down his guard, and started to speak "Alex". As he loosened up, at one point he testified that his stealing funds from those people, he said "I did 'em bad". Did you all catch that?? That same "Alex speak", that he said in that squad car, telling how bad the scene was..."I did 'em bad" . Which, defense has twisted to make it sound like he said "they did 'em bad". Keep up the good work Prosecution, get him to relax again, and say that line one more time....
So now we confirm he lied about not being at the kennel at approximately 9:00pm on the night of the murders, this he was at the kennel. Then where at the kennel was he at the moment of the shootings, did he witness the murders because he obviously did not drive up to the scene and superman "try" to assess the two victims by going back and forth (checking her pulse at her hips, really?) in 20 seconds before calling 911. An innocent person would be weeping and repetitiously pleading innocence and reinforcing the fact that the real killer is still loose and may get away with this crime if resources aren't utilized in his/her apprehension rather than wasting time on me. It does not make sense to me to use the adverb "purposely" when stating he would never harm or kill his family. You can also tell he's been told to play on the jurors sympathies by the defense in using "Pa Pa" because he even corrects himself a few times. And notice when he answers questions without all the dry mouth and tongue action. This guy is so guilty yet why are 2 jurors crying...really? Not to be sexist but of course they are both female, but still doesn't make sense.

No.. Maggie nor Paul had life Insurance.. Alex claimed he had 12 million in life Insurance that he wanted Buster to get i.e. the reason for the roadside shooting.. but later learned he did NOT have any life Insurance

This whole case could be figured out in no time if Alex just presented the clothes he wore. Blood or lack thereof is all that's needed to decide guilt or innocence.
It’s really hard to hear with all the background noise on the 911 call, but did it didn’t sound to me like he was going into the house, rummaging through shotgun shells and grabbing a gun and then going back out. I didn’t hear a door open or close or anything to indicate that is what he was doing.
Alot of you all didn't and still don't understand the prosecutors strategies and tactics during Alexs testimony. He was basically trying to get the jury to understand that if he could lie to all those people for so many years that he represented. Repeating a question is a psychological tactic used by cheaters, liars, and criminals to obfuscate, delay, and just flat out avoid directly answering a question. In AM’s case, he’s also using it to not obviously perjure himself. The jury will see right through it.

Likeable guy i see how he was able to manipulate folks. Still feel the evidence points to his guilt and i don't buy the defenses position regardless of the investigation errors. Nothing that would have me think there is reasonable doubt.

Did I miss Alec’s explanation for why he didn’t hear the gunshots that killed Maggie and Paul - since he has admitted being at the kennels minutes before their murder? Could he have even made it inside his home before they were killed? And did he say how long after the dog video was shot he left the kennels? Where did he go from there (since he wasn’t taking a nap)? And as for Alec’s claim that he didn’t check the bodies before the 911 call, how did he know they had been shot? I heard him say he was on the 911 call when he checked Paul, yet there is no indication on that call that he is looking at the deceased, no mention of trying to turn Paul over during that call. And he apparently didn’t check the bodies AFTER the 911 call because he tells the 911 operator he’s going to hang up to start calling other people. Did the prosecutor confront him with this??
He's a lawyer who knows how to work this case jury etc.., knows how to make evidence disappear and the police didn't treat the scene like it should of been treated! There's seems to be a long history of hiding evidence.

*1:20:10* The courtroom is packed! *1:25:45* Here we go **rubs hands together** Alex takes the stand. *1:29:20* Being a recovered alcoholic and addict, it _is_ true that in addiction we lie. We lie, cheat, steal, and manipulate. Some of us addicts even kill. In this case, I have doubts as to whether he was an addict because: 1.) Opiod addiction is severe. If he has been addicted for two decades, it would be impossible for people not to know. 2.) An addict always gets worse. The end result is death. More than likely, Alex would have been dead by now had he been addicted for over 20 years to opiods. We always have to have more alcohol or drugs to achieve the high we want. 3.) There's no way he spent all that money to fuel his supposed drug addiction. Apart from having had enough drugs to last hundreds of years, he would have had more than he knew what to do with, apart from downing them or selling them. If he took them all, he would be dead. 4.) If he was addicted to opiods, he wouldn't have been able to function as he had for as long as he had, swindling and stealing from people through the firm, prosecuting well, going and doing with family. When you are an addict, your life is _consumed_ by your DOC (drug of choice). You isolate, you constantly find ways to get your next fix, you progress and progress until you lose your job, house, family, friends, sanity, freedom, and your life. Perhaps Alex sold drugs. Perhaps he did take drugs, but I don't believe he was truly an addict. Nah, I believe he was using a fictional drug addiction as an excuse. And, even if he did these things under the influence of drugs, it's no excuse for the actions he did. It's never an excuse for doing henious things.
Here's my issue with this whole case... WHY IN THE WORLD are witnesses & experts allowed in the courtroom Prior to testimony?!? And, none of them should be allowed to testify, IF they have watched any of it through any type of media!?! I have seen cases where that witness was removed from the stand once they stated they had been watching the case on media.... This whole way of doing this case is insane to me. Anyone and everyone can "feed" off of someone else's testony including the defendant. jmo
I think that's the jury you're thinking about. Witnesses are questioned separately at the time an incident occurs, but it's been almost 2 years since the murders. Any witnesses that wanted to share info have had plenty of time to do so before now. They are taking an oath to tell the truth & facing perjury charges if they're found to have lied under oath.
Experts are always allowed to be in the courtroom because they based their opinions on the testimony of everyone else and the lab results and whatnot from all of the other experts, family of the victim are also almost allowed to remain in the courtroom unless there is a very specific reason for the judge to order them not to be. Everyone else depends on whether one side or the other asked for the rule to be imposed or not and then it is decided who can or cannot be in the courtroom or if they need to be sequestered from other witnesses, attorneys, tv & media coverage, etc. This is all decided before trial between the attorneys and the judge. There are specific statutes that cover all of this in every state.

The Prosecution is committing Alex's testimony to record so it can be entered in the financial cases. Fine but let's not try him for the financial crimes under the guise of trying to demonstrate Alex is a liar and has no conscience. This would not impress me if I were on the jury.
Money was motive ,I don’t see how the two are not joined at hip.He took money over the handicapped clients,grieving kids who lost their mom,broke law enforcement,and lifetime friends on the job.It’s impossible to drive home murder without this information.Jurors take no physical notes,people forget 90% of what they hear and recalls 5% incorrectly. AM having blue lights installed in his car and having two badges he carried around with him to intimidate people really bother’s me. Seeing him right after his son and wife are murdered blaming the victims of the boat accident and bringing up the sunflowers all the time to get Paul home and wanting Maggie home to visit his Dad that he never seen. Alex taking money from hurting people who trusted him. Having his cousin Eddy shoot him in the head and not get upset with him for not killing him but he keeps calling him and paying him for drugs while he’s still in the hospital. Alex talks about Paul leaving guns and clothes all over the place. Yet his excuse for not providing a shirt that could clear his name is because he has clothes all over SC. If I knew a shirt could prove my innocence I think I'd be tearing up every place I ever stayed at to find my shirt. Problem for him, he can't produce the shirt because it's probably wrapped up with the 2 guns.

I appreciate this judge more and more as the trial goes on: no frills, plain, efficient, speaks just enough-not too much, gives explanations and justifications, not overly controlling-but there are boundaries, seems unphased regarding any eventual verdict-whatever the jury decides (or does not decide, for that matter).

I think he resented Maggie and Paul because because
A. He stole to "make their lives better".
B. Maggie and Paul spied on his pill activity and "talked to" him about it.
C. There were always undercurrents of "Team Maggie & Paul", and "Team Alex & Buster".
I think Paul was not on Alex's side, but on his mom's. Paul was disapproving of Alex, and that irked Alex, because Alex had risked so much to keep up the family's fine lifestyle.
I think Buster was on Alex's "team", and more malleable. He did not pose a threat to Alex. He could be gaffed off with excuses. Maybe there was a divide between Buster and Handsome. That, in and of itself, could have been a source of contention...that Paul's good looks were celebrated.
I think Alex was so wracked by being caught out stealing, and he knew it was just the tip of the iceberg. He felt cornered and trapped and he lashed out and got rid of the two people who had benefitted most from his career of stealing.

There were a couple of people that law enforcement did verify their whereabouts at the time of the murders, like Buster Murdaugh and C. B. Rowe (sp) so maybe they were initially suspects but the investigators approach was to try to eliminate AM as a suspect and after they could not he was arrested. Hope that answers your question.
He is the only suspect because the evidence that could have or would have proven otherwise was never seen, collected or literally destroyed by incompetent law enforcement. That is a FACT that has been proven over and over. The things you want to use to condemn Alex are ALL circumstantial and could be used against any of us to be pinned for these crimes. The fact that he had an addiction is not a funny or laughing matter and not to be taken lightly. Judging by your comments you have no history or real experience with addiction especially as bad as this man was going through. I believe he did a lot of damage financially and emotionally to others through his wrongdoings, but did he kill his wife and son? Nope

In the Sheriff’s bodycam on the night of the murders, Alex Murdaugh told the Sheriff Deputy that he was at the house for 45 minutes by himself and then he was gone for an hour to an hour and a half to go visit his mother at Almeda. He began the lie that he wasn’t at the kennels at 8:45 just before the murders from the very beginning the night of the murders. The Prosecutor needs to show this bodycam footage and the jury will know the truth.
And he did at the end of his cross examination.. when he slowly corralled A.M. into the "factors" as to why he lied to SLED.. then BOOM!!.. played the Sgt Daniel Greene bodycam footage!!

I hope Court TV viewers and someone from the Prosecutors office, heard what I heard, when Alex was on the stand today (2/23/2023). He loosened up, and let down his guard, and started to speak "Alex". As he loosened up, at one point he testified that his stealing funds from those people, he said "I did 'em bad". Did you all catch that?? That same "Alex speak", that he said in that squad car, telling how bad the scene was..."I did 'em bad" . Which, defense has twisted to make it sound like he said "they did 'em bad". Keep up the good work Prosecution, get him to relax again, and say that line one more time....
So now we confirm he lied about not being at the kennel at approximately 9:00pm on the night of the murders, this he was at the kennel. Then where at the kennel was he at the moment of the shootings, did he witness the murders because he obviously did not drive up to the scene and superman "try" to assess the two victims by going back and forth (checking her pulse at her hips, really?) in 20 seconds before calling 911. An innocent person would be weeping and repetitiously pleading innocence and reinforcing the fact that the real killer is still loose and may get away with this crime if resources aren't utilized in his/her apprehension rather than wasting time on me. It does not make sense to me to use the adverb "purposely" when stating he would never harm or kill his family. You can also tell he's been told to play on the jurors sympathies by the defense in using "Pa Pa" because he even corrects himself a few times. And notice when he answers questions without all the dry mouth and tongue action. This guy is so guilty yet why are 2 jurors crying...really? Not to be sexist but of course they are both female, but still doesn't make sense.

It’s really hard to hear with all the background noise on the 911 call, but did it didn’t sound to me like he was going into the house, rummaging through shotgun shells and grabbing a gun and then going back out. I didn’t hear a door open or close or anything to indicate that is what he was doing.

He was basically trying to get the jury to understand that if he could lie to all those people for so many years that he represented. I think he meant he realizes that his lying and stealing and drugs and whatever else he hasn’t been caught at yet hurt them but he didn’t do anything with the intent to cause them any pain or hurt and that he didn’t shoot them which would also be an intentional act. That’s the way I understood what he was trying to imply anyway
He didn't kill Maggie and Paul, it was the bullets that did that. The prosecution should have asked him if he pulled the trigger of the gun that shot the bullets that killed Maggie and Paul.
Seven days is not long enough for a detox from opioids. He should have been in a closed-door, detox/rehab for 28 days, at least!

Repeating a question is a psychological tactic used by cheaters, liars, and criminals to obfuscate, delay, and just flat out avoid directly answering a question. In AM’s case, he’s also using it to not obviously perjure himself. The jury will see right through it.
All those questions are relevant, he’s telling the jury he’s duping you like he’s done his clients.

There's no forensic evidence directly leading towards the murders . Everything is circumstantial which he could be found guilty base on that but I doubt it .

Did I miss Alec’s explanation for why he didn’t hear the gunshots that killed Maggie and Paul - since he has admitted being at the kennels minutes before their murder? Could he have even made it inside his home before they were killed? And did he say how long after the dog video was shot he left the kennels? Where did he go from there (since he wasn’t taking a nap)? And as for Alec’s claim that he didn’t check the bodies before the 911 call, how did he know they had been shot? I heard him say he was on the 911 call when he checked Paul, yet there is no indication on that call that he is looking at the deceased, no mention of trying to turn Paul over during that call. And he apparently didn’t check the bodies AFTER the 911 call because he tells the 911 operator he’s going to hang up to start calling other people. Did the prosecutor confront him with this??
He's a lawyer who knows how to work this case jury etc.., knows how to make evidence disappear and the police didn't treat the scene like it should of been treated! There's seems to be a long history of hiding evidence.

*1:29:20* Being a recovered alcoholic and addict, it _is_ true that in addiction we lie. We lie, cheat, steal, and manipulate. Some of us addicts even kill. In this case, I have doubts as to whether he was an addict because:
1.) Opiod addiction is severe. If he has been addicted for two decades, it would be impossible for people not to know.
2.) An addict always gets worse. The end result is death. More than likely, Alex would have been dead by now had he been addicted for over 20 years to opiods. We always have to have more alcohol or drugs to achieve the high we want.
3.) There's no way he spent all that money to fuel his supposed drug addiction. Apart from having had enough drugs to last hundreds of years, he would have had more than he knew what to do with, apart from downing them or selling them. If he took them all, he would be dead.
4.) If he was addicted to opiods, he wouldn't have been able to function as he had for as long as he had, swindling and stealing from people through the firm, prosecuting well, going and doing with family. When you are an addict, your life is _consumed_ by your DOC (drug of choice). You isolate, you constantly find ways to get your next fix, you progress and progress until you lose your job, house, family, friends, sanity, freedom, and your life.
Perhaps Alex sold drugs. Perhaps he did take drugs, but I don't believe he was truly an addict. Nah, I believe he was using a fictional drug addiction as an excuse. And, even if he did these things under the influence of drugs, it's no excuse for the actions he did. It's never an excuse for doing henious things.

Here's my issue with this whole case... WHY IN THE WORLD are witnesses & experts allowed in the courtroom Prior to testimony?!? And, none of them should be allowed to testify, IF they have watched any of it through any type of media!?! I have seen cases where that witness was removed from the stand once they stated they had been watching the case on media.... This whole way of doing this case is insane to me. Anyone and everyone can "feed" off of someone else's testony including the defendant. jmo
I think that's the jury you're thinking about. Witnesses are questioned separately at the time an incident occurs, but it's been almost 2 years since the murders. Any witnesses that wanted to share info have had plenty of time to do so before now. They are taking an oath to tell the truth & facing perjury charges if they're found to have lied under oath.
Experts are always allowed to be in the courtroom because they based their opinions on the testimony of everyone else and the lab results and whatnot from all of the other experts, family of the victim are also almost allowed to remain in the courtroom unless there is a very specific reason for the judge to order them not to be. Everyone else depends on whether one side or the other asked for the rule to be imposed or not and then it is decided who can or cannot be in the courtroom or if they need to be sequestered from other witnesses, attorneys, tv & media coverage, etc. This is all decided before trial between the attorneys and the judge. There are specific statutes that cover all of this in every state.

The Prosecution is committing Alex's testimony to record so it can be entered in the financial cases. Fine but let's not try him for the financial crimes under the guise of trying to demonstrate Alex is a liar and has no conscience. This would not impress me if I were on the jury.

AM having blue lights installed in his car and having two badges he carried around with him to intimidate people really bother’s me. Seeing him right after his son and wife are murdered blaming the victims of the boat accident and bringing up the sunflowers all the time to get Paul home and wanting Maggie home to visit his Dad that he never seen. Alex taking money from hurting people who trusted him. Having his cousin Eddy shoot him in the head and not get upset with him for not killing him but he keeps calling him and paying him for drugs while he’s still in the hospital. I really pray to God that Alex is found guilty and put away for life so no one else can be hurt .

Imagine getting in a wreck and becoming a quadriplegic winning millions of dollars and getting just a little fraction of it so your insane lawyer can steal it to go spend and live lavishly while he uses drugs. Then he says he wasn’t living a wealthy lifestyle. He owned 1700 acre farm with multiple atvs and tons of guns. Many properties and nice cars and took nice vacations.
