Thank you for the video.I still remember watching this at my host parents house
Thank you wheel of fortune
Original broadcast Friday July 10th 1998.
it was a great show i loved trying to solve the puzzles they were fun sad it's not on anymore but we can watch them on youtube i still got the boardgame at home it's a collectors item well i still play it form time to time it might not be worth anything but it's fun to play!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The surprise was sound effect introduced in 1998 was the one from the 1999 episode on here, and it lasted right through until the end of Wheel's run on CH7 in 2006. I also remember on the first show of that new Surprise sound effect, a player won it and it was actually the car
You know, I would really love the U.S. version to do something like this.
The American version uses a descending slide whistle as the bankrupt sound.
I have an episode from October 2001 on tape somewhere (might be in storage now). Which featured the Surprise wedge, It was on the red 165 space in round 1 and actually on the yellow 230 space in round 2 (in which it was won and it was a QLD holiday)
Interesting how they had the round 3 dollar values for the whole game and replaced one of the bankrupts with a red 450 wedge
Now we know where they got the idea from.
Usually on the Red $150 (now $165) space in round one, the $480 (now $530) space in round 2 and the red $350 (now $385) in round 3
A Malaysia car as the bonus prize!
Not sure and I can't 100% remember for the life of me. I always remember the Wheel logo and how dark a red the red podium was and that it was three rounds, but I need to see more episodes from 1997 and 98.
The surprise wedge was the same as it was in 1995 when it came back at the start of 1997 and then changed some time in 1998.
Does anyone remember who the longest reigning champion was we had here in Australia and for how many nights they played and which year? I would love to know.
Longest I know of was Melissa Roberts in 1987, was on for 12 nights and won over $50,000 worth of prizes. She was followed closely in tenure I believe by Brendan Richards in 2004, on for 10 nights I think I read, not sure of his prize count, and also by Donovan Newton who was on for 10 nights in August 1996 and at the time set the record with $63,000 worth of prizes.
@@7120Magnum Awesome. Good to know. I had no idea anybody lasted 12 nights. Thank you for your quick reply.
@@7120Magnum Also don't forget Belinda O'Brien who was on for 10 nights in February/March 2000 and left with $33,650. Her run started on February 28 and ended on March 10 - the entire second week of her run can be seen on here
Was it me, or did I hear the "future" toss up ring in sound while the Wheel was spinning? (This sound, as I am aware of, was only used on the Aussie Wheel of Fortune)
The "No more calls" sound was later used for the flip-up puzzles when the bought in the touch screen letterboard after Steve Oemcke *shudders* replaced Rob Elliot at the start of 2004
Trevor Martin the buzzer sound from 1996 through to the end of 1998 (see the start of round 1 in this clip) was the same all the way through.
Yeah, heard it before, sounds similar to our Lose a Turn.
I get that, just was the Surprise Wedge featured before this new sound effect (meaning did it appear at all in 1997 or early 98) or was this the first appearance of the Surprise Wedge since it had been scrapped with John Burgess in 1996? And if it had appeared again in 1997 and early 98 was the sound effect for it the same as in 1995 or was it different also?
Were those decorations behind the car there for the whole of 1998, or was it just for that week?
They were there for the entire 1998 it debuted in Family Week in 1998 and it stayed there for the rest of the 1998 season.
@@lachlanpattersongameshows a waste if you ask me considering normal procedure was to introduce Rob by himself and straight to the podium. Would’ve made much more sense if they continued introducing him and Adriana together same way they did with Burgo and Tony.
host: winter has well and truly hit hasnt it Adriana?
Adriana: *wears mesh top and bra* it certainly has
I notice red $450 in place of 2nd Bankrupt in Round 3 but how long it lasted for?
Just for that week as far as I know. Not the first time they did something like this either. In the final weeks of the Burgo era the blue $600 wedge was introduced and replaced not just the second Bankrupt in round 2, but also one of the Bankrupt wedges in round 3. They scrapped it and brought back the second one for the final puzzle when the show moved to Sydney that July.
I can remember exactly when they reinstated the securing money rule. It was during a family week in 1998. I think it was late in the year, but it was around this that the savestate rule was reintroduced (As well as that AWFUL new Bankrupt sound effect, and also a new sound effect for the surprise wedge) indicating what was to come in 1999 before the new set was introduced and the 4-round format was reinstated
I knew the first puzzle when only the Ts were there. I AM A GENIUS!!!
Definitely prefer the updated sound I can tell you that.
Good place to locate it if you ask me, and good that it was available in round 1 as well (I notice in that 1999 episode it was available only from round 2 onwards). I would hope then on those days that the Surprise wedge was there, that the Bonus was on the 410 spot as opposed to the red 165 spot (I never liked it there - looked better on the 410 spot)
Does the audience really have to scream every 5 seconds? It's bloody annoying! I watch it with minimal volume.
Just to make sure, this was during the days where if you hit Bankrupt, you lost EVERYTHING regardless of whether or not you solved a puzzle, right?
(I always thought that rule was a wee bit unfair.)
This show format if you win a round that money up to that point is yours hence the blue spinner's score heading to round 2 is wiped away Tubewings
@@StFidjnr In this instance they did it the same way as back in Adelaide, wiping the display at the beginning of each round to show the unsecured dollars, but being a “special” week, this was a one-off occasion. From July 1996 to late 1998 landing on a Bankrupt put you back to 0.
Seems unfair but a simple concept to follow - try and avoid the Bankrupt and make sure you have the highest score at the end of the main game to spin the golden wheel. During the first half of 1996, the champion was the contestant with the highest secured total up to that point.
