I'm from those areas. and I wanted to suggest to those who want to visit these areas, and do not want to be surrounded by many people to visit in May or September. Salento is not well known by foreigners but by Italians yes, so in the summer many people come on vacation (Sorry for my english). I love my land, beautiful video!! Ciaoooo

The point is: Italy is the most fantastic tourist destination. The reason is that you can find everything there. Crystal water beaches in the south, wonderful mountains in the north, hills in the center, arts, history, tradition and everywhere fantastic food !!!! Each place has its own local food, completely different if you just move 50 kms.....and I agree with you....avoid the crowded destination like Venezia, Firenze, Roma.....ok...visit them, but take your time to travel out of them and find the hidden gems that are scattered all around.

Bingo. I've been to Italy twice, and yes, I've been to Venice and stayed in Milan, but our stays have been in Padova, Bologna, La Spezia, Torino, Ravenna, Parma, Mantova and Cortina. Italians know these places, but international tourists, not so much.

It's true that Puglia has been a very popular destination for Italian tourists from the north for a long time now, but in recent years the secret is out and more foreigners are going there too. The Salento (southern part of Puglia) is now getting pretty well known, so next time you go I'd recommend you try the northern part of Puglia which is still more known to Italians and less to foreigners. The Gargano promontory in the north of Puglia is strewn with beautiful towns, gorgeous Adriatic coast beaches, and even less mass tourism. The food is also fantastic, for example you should definitely visit a trabucco. They are old wooden structures built on the edge of a cliff that used to be used for fishing, they look like old sail boats with big wooden masts hanging out over the sea where they lower nets down. Many were abandoned but now have been repurposed into amazing local seafood restaurants where they serve incredible food from whatever they catch, and have great outdoor seating to enjoy the views with an aperitivo. Just like all of the south, the food is remarkably inexpensive especially given you are being served the best quality seafood literally caught right there, and local produce from the surrounding farms. In a big city elsewhere in Europe you would pay ten times the price for food this good. I would recommend the Trabucco da Mimì which is near the town of Peschici, also very much worth visiting.

I've been to Lecce twice, both in August during their Sant'Oronzo celebration. Fantastic! On the main plaza is a modern raised stage with modern acts, while at the corner of the plaza is a sunken Roman amphitheater where the more traditional music is performed. At sunset the entire old core of the town, built from a soft creamy limestone, is hit by the light and makes the buildings look like they are carved from butter. Totally surreal. Lovely Lecce. See you next August.

Salento is one of the most touristy areas of Italy... Although it is mainly popular among Italians. I've spent there 2 summers, years ago. It was simply packed with tourists, but since I lived with locals, we were able to avoid the crowds. Besides, I worked in a restaurant specialised in Salento's cuisine, and those Pasticciotti ruined my health 😅

Nestled in the heart of Puglia, Lecce is a city that effortlessly blends ancient history with breathtaking Baroque architecture. Its intricate stonework, adorned with intricate carvings and ornate details, has earned it the nickname "Florence of the South." The city's historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a labyrinth of narrow streets lined with stunning churches, palaces, and squares. From the majestic Basilica of Santa Croce to the charming Piazza del Duomo, Lecce offers a feast for the senses.
Beyond its architectural wonders, Lecce boasts a vibrant cultural scene, delicious cuisine, and stunning beaches. Immerse yourself in the local traditions, savor fresh seafood delicacies, and explore the nearby coastal towns. Whether you're a history buff, an art lover, or simply seeking a relaxing getaway, Lecce is a destination that will leave you enchanted.

I am biased, because Italian, but I can assure you that Italy offers unique scenarios and continuous surprises. It is a small peninsula if you look at the whole world. But it offers an incredible variety of landscapes, climates, customs not to mention the gastronomic offer.
Nemmeno gli italiani conoscono bene l'Italia. Io l'ho visitata molto ma mi mancano ancora un infinità di bellezze da vedere.

Beautiful area, been in Salento this year for the first time. Visited Gallipoli and Lecce, both very charming. Seen beautiful beaches with crystal clear water, and probably the best thing is that the area is not very busy with tourist yet. Try spumone and cime di rapa pasta which is kind of traditional for the area. Thank you for the video!

Thanks guys for showing this clip. I know Lecce and Salento. I never knew there were such beautiful beaches. I've heard Lecce is now being regarded as the most beautiful place in Italy. There's just something about Italy that blows the senses. Sshhhh, don't tell anyone about that place. Cheers from Zambia.

Salento is where Northern Italians holiday. Very busy in August.
Pasticcioto, Mmmm great filled pastry. Best at breakfast.
You should see Alberobello with its trulli. Possibly Ostuni. Also, Gallipoli an ancient walled island city next to Baia Verde a great beach.

best beaches in Europe Ive ever been: Ibiza (go outside high season, prizes affordable, carribean beaches [Cala de Sant Vincent !!! cute and super calm and quiet with a little restaurant at south side that makes you think you are on Hawaii] and Ibiza city is stunning). And Mallorca's mountains in the west are also quite surrealistically beautiful - as if you put the swiss alps right into the carribean sea. and the villages and towns pretty amazing of course. Have a cafe con leche and a cigar at noon in a shady and calm village center ;-) Palma de Mallorca also highly recommendable, also Pollenca and Alcudia. I focus on islands in general. Fewer people.

The sea is even more blue on the Ionian coast especially around Gallipoli...and as someone mentioned the beaches are very busy in summer, especially mid August when most of the italians are on vacation.

For the best beach of Europe (or more) you have to go to Lampedusa, spiaggia dei Conigli. There are many of fantastic beaches in Italy, but for me, it's absolutely the best. You like quiet places, so I recommend you to go in June and maybe you can see sea turtle's eggs too. When that beach comes back to me I have goosebumps

I'm watching this because my Italian cousins from Caserta are vacationing in this area at the moment. I wish I could be with them but because of Covid I'm stuck in Canada. You guys are funny. Had fun watching. I wish though you wouldn't compare this region with the Maldives, etc. It's unique and beautiful all on its own. No comparison.

I think you are extremely lucky to be around this part of the world in off peak season. Italians take their holidays around July and August and these beaches would be packed with people. Generally I don’t understand why Brits are overly obsessed only with Spain when there are so many amazing places and coastlines south Europe. (nothing to complain about Spain which I love and find it absolutely beautiful)

Best beach? You should try the Hebrides Islands in Scotland. Admittedly not hot, but when the sun is out, the sand is as white as it gets and the clear blue of the sea. It looks tropical even if it is blummin freezing.
