Remember when there was a bunch of cartoons based off like PG-13 and R movies? Why was that a thing and why is it not anymore?
If Pacific Rim came out in the 80s, you bet their would be a kid's cartoon of it and it would be cheesy as hell.
fuckin' Starship Troopers had a cg cartoon.
The Starship Troopers cartoon was damn good, and surprisingly closer to the book than the movie was.
But yeah, Robocop had a cartoon, Toxic Avenger had a cartoon, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes had a cartoon, Rambo had a cartoon, Police Academy had a cartoon.
And, of course, Conan had a cartoon which famously featured everyone's favourite Evilak.
brokenphantom3g Toxic Avenger is the clue that eventually made me realise that Eastman and Laird were basically trolling the entire time. Like, nobody got the joke when TMNT the comic took the piss out of Frank Miller, they continued to not get the joke when they then turned their 80’s action cheese into a kids cartoon and toy empire... and finally they go and make a Troma film into a kid friendly toy franchise.
About a decade later I saw the first Toxic Avenger movie. Then I remembered my Ninja Turtles comics and went “WAIT JUST A FUCKING MINUTE, 1/4 OF MY CHILDHOOD WAS A JOKE AT MY PARENTS’ EXPENSE!” D:
That's a good question zamu2. I'm going to guess it isn't a thing anymore because they wanted to sell toys and it stopped selling toys and original ideas got really popular because they were good. There was a good series, what I've heard, that wasn't kaiju but did have mecha, called Exo-Squad.
There was going to be an Aliens cartoon called Operation: Aliens but it ended up not happening.
I knew this was gonna be the segment y'all would upload. Seeing Woolie go crazy over dumb animal hero teams was great.
The Mighty Ducks is still the most ridiculous to me, even though I unironically like a lot of the character designs in it.
Mighty Ducks and Biker Mice for me were much more tolerable than anything like TMNT.
Yo fuck woolie to this day shits all over the biker mice from mars. And as a huge fan of that cartoon I can't let that shit slide anymore.
Man I love the Mighty Ducks. They were stupid and they knew it as the show went on.
As a kid I always confused the cartoon with ducks and the hockey team movie. I always thought it was one or the other.
To this day I am STILL confused.
Does Gargoyles count as an anthropamorphic animal super hero show? i mean it checks off all the boxes:
-all of them named after real world things
-all very different and distinct personalities (the tough leader, the hot head, the fat one, the timid one, the dog, the grumpy old man)
-have a strong independant female human companion with only slightly awkward romantic interest
-had a line of action figures for kids to buy
-all of them turned a bunch of people into degenerate perverts
Unfortunately (I mean no disrespect to anyone's religious beliefs by saying this but) the first one kind of wouldn't be considered true to most people on Earth considering the name "Goliath" comes from a biblical warriors name that many would probably say was never real.
I'd say so, especially considering the era it was created in. It was just lucky enough to have a writing staff on board to actually make something out of it rather than fall into obscurity like a lot of these other shows.

I can confirm that captain Simian and the Space Monkeys was awesome. It was genuinely funny as hell. Also, one of the main villains was a cyborg Rhesus monkey that could shoot his brain at people and choke them with the spinal cord.
Yes! Rhesus II (don't ask what happened to Rhesus I) voiced amazaingly by motherfucking Malcom McDowell.

Fuck yeah!!!! , criminally underrated show, it also had the best "fighting our fears" episode i have seen in animation outside of anime , it basically stated that all the monkeys got PTSD from the test flights , lol.

Selvokaz yes I do. Unfortunate, but that doesn't mean you should disregard everything as a whole. Hell, one of Matt's favorite songs is X gon give it to you. Do you want to know how homophobic that song is? You'd never hear that song on the radio today. That doesn't mean it's necessarily bad, nor does it mean it's good. Just like Hong Kong Phooey, it wasn't made to offend, and considering how bad it *could* have been - like those Siamese cats from Aristocats - it was pretty tasteful.
Well this was fun to revisit.

I barely watched Extreme Dinosaurs but it's forever in my heart cause of it's opening in all it's cheesy glory.
I knew virtually nothing about Snailiens before I watched this (Which is surprising for a guy who owns all of Street Sharks on DVD), so when the guys were rattling off their President reference names, I honestly thought it was a joke. XD
Also, I love Woolie's unwillingness to let go of the tangent complemented by Pat just walking out of the room.
