As a Slovak, I'm not sure about the whole powerhouse and high living standards part. Sure, Bratislava is finally growing to become a proper good standard of living european city like its neighbors and west european counterparts, but everything east-wards of Bratislava... not really, very stagnant, abandoned, every government from all the spectrums that have changed hands in BA neglected everything that is not west third of Slovakia, the economical and living standard differences are so deep we might as well be two different counties. That is what happens if your capital city hugs one end of the country borders and does not care about its back yard.

Stronger resources and energy management, infrastructure and technology sectors are important too. And a less powerful dependence on Germany is important. A joint military would be necessary too. Polish are most vulnerabel as they face Belarus and Russia directly. I don't see Hungary or Cechia or Slovakia sharing this russian invasion fear. Only after most of these points are checked, we could call these countries a real powerhouse.
