I carry dental floss as thread for field repairs. It's strong enough to hold together leather. Color matching gets done at home. EDC a Swiss army knife and you always have scissors. I have a leather thimble for heavy duty work. I always carry a scrap piece of synthetic webbing to use to patch holes and reinforce weak spots. My needles are kept in a tube scavenged from a dead ball point pen. Spare buttons and safety pins are stored in an old RX bottle.

I have a pair of those as well, but they're far too bulky for this kit.
excellent advise, i am putting 1 together now..
My EDC sewing kit is simply a pre-threaded needle sealed in a straw including two mini safety pins and a mini paperclip (to improvise a button).
