Dave that is the best idea if taping down the end tail of thread to start sewing! I always have to hold it, but taping it down is so much easier and have a free hand to hold on to the fabric!!❤
Dave you’re a genius! I can’t believe using plain heavy duty plastic can be used as a snap close bag! I just bought 2 plant clippers which came packaged in that hard plastic. I’m glad I left in the garbage bag in my car! I’m getting it to make myself a bag! Love it! ❤
Good stuff Dave! I enjoy saving money by making things instead buying them. Sewing is fun and rewarding. Its a great skill to have under your belt. THANKS!
Loving it Dave, I started sewing 30 years ago, after 10 years of leather crafting; saddle stitching by hand! So after 45 years getting sober, and a hobby, I have 4 industrial sewing machines and 3 1890, singers! And a complete leather shop. Your doing a great job! Loving every minute of every video! You would make a great National Geographic Show! Live from your basement!🤠
I watched this video last night/this morning when I coudn't sleep... I have to admit ... your "friend" was right... it was a bit painful to watch being an avid seamstress .... however.. that said .. I ALSO watched you making the new reflective tarp set up last week .... I have to compliment you on how much your sewing has improved over the last few years! :D Seriously ... I LOVE watching you and Nick out in the woods ...makes me want to dig out my old gear and hit the woods. I kind of grew up in the woods with my Dad teaching me all kinds of things too. Anyway, I really want to thank you for all the time and energy you put into your teaching others your vast skills. Bless you and stay safe! (Water moccasins are NO fun!)
'Rambling'... like you describe the first 10min., takes me back to so so so many years ago, I'ld come home from school, mum would be ready waiting with thea and coockie or fruit, then she'd go up to her room and start sewing. Clothes, curtains, schoolbags, whatever needed. And I sat there and rambeld back, like how things went at school and so, just talking about live together and at the same time learning worthyfull skills! She gone now, some years already. I imagine hanging out at your gearroom would give me the same feeling. So thanks for that 'via' piece of life you give by inviting us all in. Love and go good! Ellen
Hi Dave,I wrote to you around 2-3 years ago and told you how you inspired me to get back out there.(I told you had many medical issues)well I got out quite a bit in that time and LOVE it.It was getting tough so I had a knee replacement last week and will be back out there real soon, I'll be 57 thanks again. My question or request is an idea for a video.I'm sure we would all enjoy watching you and Nick together just out doing your own thing the way you would when your not filming for us.I think that would be a video that really showed Fun in the woods. Thanks for making the videos Dave and especially for the inspiration
+Bill M (Grinch88) Hello bill! I think I do remember talking to you. Thats great you got back out and enjoy it! Seems like once you get back into camping, you usually keep going. Just like its easy to get into the habit of not wanting to go. I like that idea you have. We could call it "The No Video video" LOL. Take care and Thanks for watching Bill.
I've been waiting for this video. With Boy Scouts, hunting, shooting and camping I like to have everything as organized as possible. Bags are so handy. Thanks man.
I laughed until I cried. Very entertaining watching you measure, cut, tape and sew. Thank you for a very entertaining how to sew gear bags video and great advice on fabrics to use. I am excited to see what you will make next!
+SouthPaw Bushcraft Thanks Dawn, I'm glad you liked it and Im always happy to share. I feel like the sewing machine is something every camper/bushcrafter can use. Thanks for watching.
Great video, I love the way you mix things up. You really have the most well rounded outdoor channel on TH-cam. If the TV executives were smart they would be beating down your door to give you your own show. Keep up the great work.
+Larry Long Thanks Larry, I'm glad you liked it and the way I do things. Ive dealt with a few TV production companies and so far nothing has came from them and Im beginning to not trust any of them. As far as a show, who knows? Thanks for watching.
Dave, well that was a very absorbing video on bags and how to makes them, I honestly don't know how you manage to make absolutely everything and anything fun to watch, genius !
David, back in the day when I worked in the mill, we had to sew huge seams to connect one roll of cloth to the next. When a man was running it, it wasn't a "sewing machine", It was a "Thread Injector" LOL Enjoy your vids, long time subscriber, also in GA, keep them coming brother. Great use of your Thread Injector!
+Ron Lawrance LOL, man now that is a good manly name for it! Very cool. Always great to hear from a fellow Georgian. Take care and Thanks for watching Ron.
Excellent video Dave. I bought a sewing machine last year to make first aid kits for my family for Christmas. I will be adding these kinds of bags for my various kits. Thanks for telling us about the materials you were using, I would not have thought of using Tyvek.
+338 MRAD Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Man thats awesome you have a sewing machine. If you have camp cooksets, you gotta make bags. Tyvek is the best liner I have found yet. Thanks for watching.
a sewing machine is just another power tool. heck yes I enjoyed it, as I do all your videos. thanks for sharing. you inspire me to get busy with organizing my gear. thanks.
Dave... I just send you a note asking you to share the title of THIS tutorial so I could find it. However, LOL, I found the video... this video, that I wanted to watch again. Thank you so much for THIS terrific tutorial. Answered a ton of my questions. Nice job.... and beautiful straight stitch!! Thanks again....... Best wishers... ...... Ax
Hey Obewan Dave, thank you for showing how you do what you do with your sewing machine! I think it is so cool that you make your own stuff (AND that you learned how to use your sewing machine off of TH-cam, that is so swift :D!), instead of buying more gadgets! That way you have of talking while you work is also valuable, it tells everybody what to watch out for, and how to correct it on the fly. This is priceless understanding for anyone else who is trying to do it. I learn something new every time you talk about anything in one of your videos Dave, so whatever you talk about, I always know it's gonna be good. Waiting on your next one :-)! Many Blessings to you, my Friend :-).
Lol! Thank you and I'm glad you liked it! As far as making my own gear? I'm cheap, it's fun and most important of all you can make anything you can dream up! Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
At last another Dave Special. As usual enjoyable and full of hints and tips. One other guy said that you could talk all you want and I would listen. All we need do is listen and there is always something to learn. Thanks Dave and keep em coming.
+Forrest Nettleton Thanks Forrest, I'm glad you liked it. Brother if its talking you like then youre in luck. I pretty much never stop talking. LOL! Thanks for watching.
Thank you! Been sewing ever since Mama taught me how to as a kid. Learned hand, foot, and eye coordination on Grandma's treadle sewing machine. That said, learned something new today. (1) Never thought about painters masking tape. Big thumbs up! (2) Pencil is a great idea for pulling cord, elastic, etc. through a tube. (3) I'm NOT crazy for "hording" plastics, scrap fabric, anything that can be used for strapping, etc. lol (4) Lining material from painter coveralls. Couple of tips: * Use a piece of dowel to help turn small bags inside out. Slightly sharpened on one end to GENTLY push out the corners, where applicable. * A large safety pin attached to the end of your paracord can function as your pencil did to snake cord through a casing. As long as you can feel the pin through the layers you can ease the fabric over it. Works great for long runs, as in a drawstring pack cover, for example. You have me thinking about the fabric potential for re-usable shopping bags we see everywhere these days. Cutting those down for complete bags and/or liners for other fabrics. Again, thank you for sharing. Always appreciate your resourcefulness in finding a solution that meets your needs. And the needs of many who what your channel. Appreciated. God Bless. Merry Christmas.
+Oldtimer Lee Man thats cool you have sewed for so long. I just got into sewing about four years ago. I usually use a welding rod for pulling paracord through but decided to use a pencil since thats what everyone has handy. Thats a very good idea on the reuseable shopping bags as liners. Them are tough and Flexible. Take care, Thanks for watching and I hope you have a very Merry Christmas too Lee!
Great video. I was never a big fan of pins either and used tape when I could. Having a bag for each of your sets is a very smart way to keep your gear organized. There's no reason for a guy to shy away from using sewing machines. A sewing machine is no different than a soldering iron or a drill or a table saw. It's just another tool you can use to help you build something. Good lesson to teach.
+CrankyPants Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Sounds like me, I love the tape. So much easier. A sewing machine is not only a tool, but one amazing machine. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for this and the many other videos from which we have derived much pleasure. We wish and yours a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous new year. Dave and Viv
Dave, love all your videos. My mom left me an old Singer sewing machine about four years ago. That machines is about forty years old. Watching this vid gave me the inspiration to use it well Thank you.
+Wild Parang Thanks Brother, I'm glad you like all the vids. Man you have a great advantage! I dont care how new and fancy some machines are, NONE made will be as heavy duty as the one you have. You should be able to sew canvas and cordura with it. A lot of newer machines have trouble with layered thick materials. Now get sewing! LOL. Thanks for watching.
Well I'm an old dog but you taught me some new tricks. You got to be the coolest man on the planet. Any woman would be proud to have you for a son. Utilitarian sewing is the most beneficial skill on the planet. I would suggest you move the needle by hand with the gear on the end of the machine when your work will not pull away freely at the end of the stitching. What happens is the looper has not made a complete turn and your thread is hanging on the looper. If you notice some times the thread will break close to the needle causing you to have to rethread the needle which is always a pain. Just try moving the wheel a fraction of an inch by hand or rock it up and down which should free the thread. I would send you a video but I'm not high tech like you. Anyway; enjoyed the video... Oh and that is a really cool idea about the snap together closure.
+alindastar Thank you my friend! My neighbors dont think Im very cool tho, LOL. Ill try that trick you mentioned. I noticed that problem when sewing sometimes and wondered what was going on. Take care and Thanks for watching
Hey Dave, you are my sewing inspiration! Your sewing tips helped me make Christmas blanket with my daughter. She thought I was a true professional. When she asked me if I knew how to sew, I told her with the upmost confidence, SURE..., a reallybigmonkey showed me! Seriously Dave, thanks so much for all you do for us. By the way, my personal favorite hat that I where is the exact same as your Alaska hat. I have now dubbed it my official sewing hat! Thanks again. Merry Christmas.
Sorry about the spelling, it types what I speak, not what i mean, maybe. I ment to say I wear it as a favorite hat. It is my any-wear hat because goes everywhere.
+Gary E. Sims Cool man! I even inspire at sewing! Its good to hear you make stuff. You really made a blanket? That is a big project. Also cool we have the same hat. I figure ya gotta at least dress manly when you sew. LOL. Take care man, Thanks for watching and I hope you have a very Merry Christmas too Gary!
Always enjoy your videos. A good thing to use to put on your bags to close, is a piece, of tape measure. The metal, really snaps close. Husband has some that don`t work for him. So I recycle them for the same thing you use plastic for. Thanks again.
I really enjoyed watching how you make your gear bags. I don’t know if I’ll ever get the opportunity to create any, but it sure is useful information. I am retired now of course, but I still do about 3 weeks of contract work every calendar quarter. I worked today and was a little tired while watching your video, so I am mot sure exactly how you started out layering the bags. I might have to watch the video a coupla more times to fully understand what all you did, and why. Thank you for taking the time to give us guys a clue about how to at least get started. 👍
Sounds good Daniel. I often layer the bags just to keep sharp items from poking holes in em so fast. Youre never too old to learn some sewing tricks.Take care and thanks for watching.
You rock! You are defininitely one of the most interesting TH-cam personalities and always intertain as you provide your insights. You can use pinking shears to trim excess fabric from the inside of your bags after sewing. This creates a criss cross pattern which stops the threads from unraveling. There is also some kind of glue material that will do the same. Maybe not too important on gear bags, but just a thought. I see you have a Singer sewing machine. You may want to look for a vintage 1950s Singer Sewing Machine, a slant machine that you can actually install two needles in at once and double stitch. Look for a Singer 404 for straight stitch, or a Singer 403A that can also do zigzag and can use additional fancy cams. Both can be threaded with two needles! These QUALITY vintage machines are awesome, heavy-duty, and so rewarding to use. And, with a little searching on Craigslist or Facebook you will eventually find one or both at a good price. The 403 is the prize with its versatility and these machines do not need to be in sewing tables, but work nicely in them as well. And, parts and such can be found to keep these awesome machines going, etc. and just about anything can be repaired. Central Michigan Sewing supply has downloadable manuels and some stuff. They take standard 66 bobbins you can get anywhere. Another TH-camr, Andy Tube, really goes into these particular models. Someone with your handiness will love these vintage machines (I am guessing). And, these two models are my favorite. Again, they are heavy Duty. My mother-in-law was a seamstress and she wanted me to repair an old Singer. I loved how it was put together and learned about the various models. I love the 201-2, maybe the best straight stitch sewing machine ever made, but the wiring in almost all of those machines needs to be redone. Not too much goes wrong with the 400 series machines, and they can be rewired, etc. much easier. The only part I don't like is that they use plastic spools, You can get them in Michigan. I have dreams of making all my own gear bags and actually making the perfect haversack, and maybe one day sewing my own backpack which will be sort of modeled on the Swedish LK35. I would also like to make a wool neck gaiter.
+First of many Hands Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I pretty much have tried every thing in the terms of making gear. More to come and Thanks for watching.
Great couple of videos to start the new year.. looking forward to more camping in 2016 with the family. Bags and blanket pins will be handy!! I bought a second hand sewing machine some time ago...now.... to find something to bag. Cheers Dave and happy 2016.
+Mulchie750 Thanks, I'm glad you liked em. Sew up some stuff and make camping more organized. Them older machines beat the newer ones any day in my opinion. Happy New Year to you too and Thanks for watching.
+Monica Jones Thanks Monica , I'm glad you liked it and learned from it. I used to sew everything by hand but it just took me too long. I dived into learning the machine and its been fun ever since. Thanks for watching.
+Ceco556 Thanks! Man I have had a weird way of dreaming up all different ways of cooking. Add to that a welding machine and you wind up with a pile of cooking gear. LOL. Thanks for watching
+Michael G Palmer Youre very welcome Michael and Im happy it answered some questions. There was a lot I didnt know about sewing machines when I first started but the more you use a mcahine, the more it gets easier. Thanks for watching
Very nice bags and I like the use of grommets. As I told you before I used a repair needle and string and I made bags from the legs of old pants and cut up blankets. I even used fabric glue. it's nice to have bags to protect and organize everything. The bag gets dusty, but it's easier to wash a bag than to clean a lot of gear.
Thanks, I'm glad you like em. Ive used a few pants legs in the past, they sure do make quick bags! I hate having gear not in bags since Ive gotten used to sewing. Thanks for watching
Awesome video Dave, I have dabbled with sewing a bit, you have definitely inspired me to take on some projects I was dreading to try. Thank you Brother, Hope Nick is well too!!! Keep up the fantastic work!!!!
+Micheal Westonn Sounds great Micheal! Nothing wrong with sewing as long as the machine is working right. Its incredible the custom gear you can make yourself. Good luck with it and Thanks for watching.
Great video Dave. I am from the north east. When I started watching your videos a few years ago I enjoyed your unique voice. Now your voice is a very familiar voice in our home. My wife says your one of my best buddies because I watch all your videos. Thanks for all you do, always something to learn. Love the tape idea for sewing, seems much faster. Merry Christmas!
+Aaron Mason Thanks Aaron, I'm glad you liked it. Man thats so cool to hear Im a familiar voice round your house. I love knowing the vids are liked that much and my friends learn from them. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and Thanks for watching.
Fantastic! I'm excited to know I can make my own stuff. Now I have more reason to use jeans and material I've been saving and my wife will be happy it's gone. Thanks for the great video!
+Darignobullseye Cool! Like I always say, never throw away any fabric. If you have access to a sewing machine you can make anything! Happy sewing and Thanks for watching
+Gary Cloud Youre very welcome and Im glad you liked it Gary. Old pants legs work great. I made a rope n cordage bag out of the leg of some camo pants once and its held up great! And it looks cool. LOL.
thank you Dave, from Ohio. always seems like the advise you give interest me tremendously. I have a run of the mill singer and like to do little jobs with it. anyway, take care and Merry Christmas. Respectfully yours G Malise
+Gary Malise Thank you Gary, I'm glad you liked it man. I would say any old Singer is heavy enough for any thing you want to make outdoors gear wise. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas too and Thanks for watching.
Merry Christmas to you. Thank you for the wonderful video on making bags. I have been sewing for many years but, it is wonderful to see somebody show a quality teaching. I am glad to see a young man sew on the machine. Many things have been sewn over the years by men. Sails for boat makers. Seats for upholstery. And you have shown the basic steps. I am proud you made this video. I know it took a considerable amount of time and thank you for this. May I offer one bit of information that may help you on larger bags to keep the seam from breaking. Make a few single stitches around the perimeter of the bag then run a zig zag stitch over the inner part of the inside seam. It will really reinforce the strength of the seam and keep it from fraying . Peace be with you and your family this day. God bless you and your family. Till the next video.
+Rita Mastin Thank you for the tips Rita and Ill remember them. I hear ya on many men sewing. I know after sewing and trying my best and it sometimes looking horrid that the men that are custom suit tailors are true craftsmen. As far as sail makers, thats the same class as tent makers hammock makers and back pack makers. Its all good sewing. Im happy you liked the video so much and I hope you have a very Merry Christmas too!
Actually it was sewn quite well. Also of good quality. There was nothing horrid at all in your sewing ability. Don't beat yourself up. I would be a proud owner of one or all the bags you have sewn. Not only were they all sewn well but, they were sewn by a man with love of creating something useful. To me that has value. I wish more people would take the time to invest their talents and ideas and mentor their abilities. After all if it weren't for people like you showing the knowledge you have gathered, your mentors, would have been forgotten over time. Thank you for sharing !
+Rita Mastin Thank you Rita! I have to agree with you too, People nowadays need to take more interest in making what they need. Its bad to have to run to the store and buy things when you can make em at home better, custom sized and cheaper! Take care now.
as always: i enjoyed your video my dear friend. i bought a dutch oven for my cabin the german woods. can't wait to cook with! greetings from cologne, germany arthur
David........your videos are great I love when you go out to the woods and show how to cook make fire make camp and make shelters and really enjoy your ship and gear making videos...........not sure if I'll ever get on a sewing machine but if I do it will be down to your inspiration............keep em coming man 👍 Hope you and the family have a fantastic holiday season 🎅🏻
+Tony Eden Thanks Tony, I'm glad you like em all. I have all different kinds of videos planned out. Maybe a shop one soon? Thanks for watching and Happy holidays to you too Tony.
Hi David, Just popped in to wish you and all who you love a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for the great videos and I look forward to more in the coming year.
i just had to mention Micro Max painters overalls are made of tough throw away paper. To change the subject. My Wife and i finally fetched down our 21 year old sewing machine from the loft, and its ready to go.Having only been used once,it is still in mint condition. i was able to buy lots of material for a few small pull tight bags mainly for holding enough dry food supplies to last 3 days. Thank you for giving good tips. You have a nice safe day. BB from the UK
I have seen for years. I hate using pins. Your tape idea is brilliant !! It will be a new part of my arsenal. Thanks for that. Now a tip for you: the rounded end of the handle of a wooden spoon is excellent for turning things wrong side out that are skinny like that. Hope that helps. Have fun!
It has taken me almost 30 days to watch every single one of your videos. Each one was fun and informative. Probably contrary to most of your viewers, I kinda hope you don't go big time and get a network show. While you might enjoy the ease of having someone shoot and edit your videos, after a while, I think you will tire of production schedules, being art directed and the general shenanigans of the Powers That Be. Given your nature for full disclosure, you are absolutely going to hate it when some production cog makes you retake a shot to hide a failed attempt or they have you "reenact" a scene to make it more "dramatic." You are perfect as is and it has been a joy to see you having fun in the woods.
+Hey It's Muff You watched all 108 videos? Wow! Thats cool! Im happy you liked them and what I do. I can more than likely say I bet I never get a show. Over the past two to three years Ive dealt with production companies and program managers and developers and every single time nothing came from it and it was a total waste of time. Ive also seen some TV shows destroy peoples character and reputations. I hate drama, and I really hate fakes shows. Reality should be real. Problem is, its boring, LOL. Ill probably stay who I am and make the videos as long as I can and as long as its fun in the woods. Take care my friend and Thanks for watching
Thank you friend now l know how to make it,l've brought a small sewing machine last year,l was thinking about bags, now l know so Thank you merry christmas take care friend
+john ross Sorbie Sounds great John! No reason why every cook set shouldnt have a bag. Good luck and have fun with it. Thanks for watching and you have a very Merry Christmas too!
+Sam Johnson Thanks Sam! I'm glad you liked it and I hope it goes well. Sewing takes a little getting used to but once you get the hang of it you can make some incredible stuff!
Yes, time will tell I guess if things work out. I am starting to watch your videos and I am way behind on them. Enjoy your channel and I enjoy your take on things. Keep up the good work you are doing.
Well done! Thanks for the lesson. You did a good job explaining all this stuff. I have a little less fear of a sewing machine now that all is said and done.
Thanks Robert! Im happy it helped. One you have fooled around with a sewing machine its no big deal and you will wind up making all kinds of stuff on it!
Well I have to say that looks like a lot of work, but the end results makes for better organized kits that makes ones excursions into wild way more pleasant all around. Thanks to your step by step instructions I see some creations for my gear in the future! I look forward to new year of your video's and would like to wish you and your family a very happy holiday!
+john- waxerone Man it is a lot of work to make the bags but its way way better than having a pack full gear all mixed up. LOL. I'm glad you liked it. Happy Holidays to you too and Thanks for watching.
You sew better than me. As a matter of fact , I've never even used a sewing machine. You inspire me to try though. Thanks , hope you and yours have a great Holiday Season. Peace
+Dave Rosa Thanks Dave! Yeah give the Tyvek a try. It really cleans up good even after you have had sooty pots or pans stored in it from a trip home. Thanks for watching!
Hell yea, Real men make their own outdoor equipment and tools great craftsmanship dave.
+Lousiana Outdoors (Liberty or Death) Absolutely brother! Thanks for watching
You sir, are a great teacher of the outdoors and bushcraft.
+Austin Pisarro Thank you Austin!
I'll tell ya what David, you could talk all day and I'd listen, I appreciate all you do to teach us all
So true!
+n8mayfield Thanks! Man its always great to hear that. Thanks for watching
Dave that is the best idea if taping down the end tail of thread to start sewing! I always have to hold it, but taping it down is so much easier and have a free hand to hold on to the fabric!!❤
I'm glad you liked that!
You're laughter and carefree video style is contagious. Not only are your vids informative, but entertaining too :) Cheers!
Thanks, I'm glad you like the way I do things Dawn. Thanks for watching
You’re so funny Dave, you made laugh out loud when you said you’re not sewing for Calvin Klein or Gloria Vanderbilt!
Lol, I ain't trying to win no beauty contest
Dave you’re a genius! I can’t believe using plain heavy duty plastic can be used as a snap close bag! I just bought 2 plant clippers which came packaged in that hard plastic. I’m glad I left in the garbage bag in my car! I’m getting it to make myself a bag! Love it! ❤
Great to hear that! Not only is it neat to recycle but a lot of those plastic pieces can't even be bought
Good stuff Dave! I enjoy saving money by making things instead buying them. Sewing is fun and rewarding. Its a great skill to have under your belt. THANKS!
+Claudio Pagan Thanks Claudio! I hear ya, I love saving money and its cool to have a bag any shape or size I need. Thanks for watching!
I learn to sew by watching TH-cam too. I don’t like to critique, I love watching you!
Great to hear that
Loving it Dave, I started sewing 30 years ago, after 10 years of leather crafting; saddle stitching by hand! So after 45 years getting sober, and a hobby, I have 4 industrial sewing machines and 3 1890, singers! And a complete leather shop. Your doing a great job! Loving every minute of every video! You would make a great National Geographic Show! Live from your basement!🤠
Thanks Dennis and man your sewing set up and machines sounds fantastic! Oh I'd love my own tv show! Thanks for watching Dennis
Great bag to put my scissors and pinking shears in! Thanks so much!
I watched this video last night/this morning when I coudn't sleep... I have to admit ... your "friend" was right... it was a bit painful to watch being an avid seamstress .... however.. that said .. Thanks! I gotta admit, my sewing was pretty sloppy a few years ago. Hit the woods any chance you get! Thanks for watching
'Rambling'... like you describe the first 10min., takes me back to so so so many years ago, I'ld come home from school, mum would be ready waiting with thea and coockie or fruit, then she'd go up to her room and start sewing. Ah the memories! Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching Ellen!
I have never walked away from his videos without a BIG smile on my face and sore sides from laughing.
+Grandpa Bill Cool! Im happy you liked it that much man. Thanks for watching
When ever I'm having a bad day, my instant cure is to go and watch your videos. Keep smiling and laughing my friend it does everybody good.
I've been waiting for this video. With Boy Scouts, hunting, shooting and camping I like to have everything as organized as possible. Bags are so handy. Thanks man.
+Arnold Alt Man nothing beats neat organized gear. I hate having a backpack full of gear all mixed up. Thanks for watching Arnold.
I laughed until I cried. Very entertaining watching you measure, cut, tape and sew. Thank you for a very entertaining how to sew gear bags video and great advice on fabrics to use. I am excited to see what you will make next!
Lol, you are very welcome Robin and no telling what I'll make next! Thanks for watching
Great video showing how to do this! I appreciate the time you took to share this. All the best, Dawn
+SouthPaw Bushcraft Thanks Dawn, I'm glad you liked it and Im always happy to share. I feel like the sewing machine is something every camper/bushcrafter can use. Thanks for watching.
This best bushcraft channel and please support this amazing man and he fantastic work on TH-cam
+donna pratt Thank you Donna!
Thanks man! I have no idea how or why, I just do stuff and film it! Thanks for watching Del
Woo hoo, Doggy! Wrankles, wrankles, wrankles!!! Dave, you are awesome!
Thanks Mike!
Now I have to get a sewing machine and learn how to use it! Then, I can get myself organized. Excellent teaching here. Thanks.
Sounds good to me! It's unreal what all you can make with one. Thanks for watching McCoy
a sewing machine is just another power tool. heck yes I enjoyed it, as I do all your videos. thanks for sharing. you inspire me to get busy with organizing my gear. thanks.
+les sharratt Oh absolutely Les, just another power tool like the rest. I'm glad you liked it and Thanks for watching.
Best wishers... ...... Ax
Thanks Ax, I'm glad you liked it and it helped out. Thanks for watching
The self locking bags is the best piece of kit I've seen in a long time, awesome!!
+Desmond Guy Thanks Desmond ! I'm glad you liked it . They do a great job of locking in contents.
Couple of tips:
* Use a piece of dowel to help turn small bags inside out.
+David Cooper Thanks David, I'm glad you liked them all. Thanks for watching and may you and Viv have a Very Merry Christmas and happy new year
Well done Dave. Thanks for great instructions and sharing your techniques and good advice.
+Best Grams Thanks Grams, I'm glad you liked it and Im always happy to share. Thanks for watching.
:) yes. thanks.
It is my
any-wear hat because goes everywhere.
I always learn from your videos. Thank you for sharing them.
+Melissa Jennings Thanks Melissa, I'm glad you liked it and Im always happy to share. Thanks for watching.
Lots of things to learn from this one. Thanks for sharing :)
- Martin
+NorwegianWoods Thank Brother Martin, I'm glad you liked it and Im always happy to share. Thanks for watching.
Always enjoy your videos. A good thing to use to put on your bags to close, is a piece, of tape measure. The metal, really snaps close. Husband has some that don`t work for him. So I recycle them for the same thing you use plastic for. Thanks again.
+luvGod2ful I'm glad you like the videos. Thats a great idea on the old tape measures! I believe that material is spring steel. Thanks for watching.
I'm glad you like the videos and thanks for all the information!
Loved this video! You are a Dave of most trades! I look forward to your next adventure.
+First of many Hands Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I pretty much have tried every thing in the terms of making gear. More to come and Thanks for watching.
Love to watch your videos, haven a great afternoon thanks
+Kim Thomson Thanks! You have a good one too my friend
Sorry for the hassle, LOL. But thanks for all the terrific videos and tutorials. Always something to learn !!! Best wishes again.... Ax
Ah no hassle at all man. I LOVE getting comments!
Very Nice Dave. I make draw string bags, I sew by hand as I do not have a machine. I learned a thing or two from this video. Thank you
+Monica Jones Thanks Monica , I'm glad you liked it and learned from it. I used to sew everything by hand but it just took me too long. I dived into learning the machine and its been fun ever since. Thanks for watching.
Nice job. I can not believe all your cooking stuff, lol, thanks for the video
+Ceco556 Thanks! Man I have had a weird way of dreaming up all different ways of cooking. Add to that a welding machine and you wind up with a pile of cooking gear. LOL. Thanks for watching
Thank you. That answered some of my questions I didn't ask for fear of looking stupid.
Good luck with it and Thanks for watching.
am from saudi arabia and i love this dude dont know why but hes funny and am learning from him :) thx buddy
+Mindshi fter Cool! Thanks for watching my friend!
Great video! I like your idea with blue tape. I've done my own bags and yet this is still interesting...you're a good teacher. Thanks !
+Deborah Ferguson Thanks Deborah, I'm glad you liked it. The tape aint textbook right but it works for me. Thanks for watching.
Now I'm gonna make a bag soon! Thanks for another great video. Best regards.
+Kim Jørgensen Sounds great Kim! I'm glad you liked it and Thanks for watching
Somethin about this Dude always makes me smile, dont take it the wrong way ....

+dalton vickers Thanks Dalton! Im happy you liked it.

+Jeff Obrien Thanks Jeff, I'm glad you liked it and learned from it. Thanks for watching.
Let's be a generation of parents that also teaches their sons how to sew.
Absolutely!
used to make my shirts buttons and snaps. Very nice utensil bags. Enjoyed the video very much. thanks for sharing
+tooterr101 oldgeezer Thats pretty cool., I'm glad you liked it and Im always happy to share. Thanks for watching
I think it's cool to make your own gear. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year David.
+RedDogBushCraft Thanks Brother, To me half the fun is making all the gear. And, Im cheap. LOL. Thanks for watching man
Thanks Dave for a great tutorial. I have made a couple of bags out of some old pants but this vid gives me some ideas on how to make them better.
Makes me want sew. Have a good Christmas Dave and everyone!
+1fanger Sounds good! Sew some stuff when ever you can. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas !
You got that sewing stuff "in the bag". Great vid David! You make it look easier that what it actually is!
+Parker Ridge (Jason) LOL! Cool saying Jason. I'm glad you liked it. It is easy once you get used to the machine. Thanks for watching.
Thanks, especially for the self-closing bag. I had'nt thought of that one. So it's over to my sewing machine to try that one. ---- Clark
+Virginia Bradley Youre very welcome Clark and I'm glad you liked it. That self closing bag is handy for all kinds of uses. Thanks for watching.
Take care now.
this is just what i've been looking for. great video , thanks
+Curt Johnson Cool sounds good Curt! Thanks for watching man.
Is he a bag man or what? No he is the portable cooker man. Nice video. Glad to see you bring in the scales for measuring.
+57WillysCJ LOL, maybe Im a little of both! As a machinist, I always bring in the scales. Thanks for watching
I do soooo love the tape. I hate pinning! awsome job!!!
Thanks Amy! Oh yes, the tape is soooo much faster!

Hi David,
Just popped in to wish you and all who you love a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Thanks for the great videos and I look forward to more in the coming year.
+InTheNameOfJustice Thanks man, I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas too!
i just had to mention Micro Max painters overalls are made of tough throw away paper.
That's great to hear! The more you sew, the more you'll want to do sewing projects. It's addictive! Thanks for watching
Have fun!
I'm glad you liked it Becky! That is a good idea using that wood spoon handle. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching
Thanks for the tips!! Unbelievable how talented you are. Thaks for sharing with us all.
Awesome video, Merry Christmas, Dave
+vborg001 Thanks, I'm glad you liked it and a very Merry Christmas to you too.
Using the painters coveralls is such a good idea. That stuff is so strong.
Oh its amazing stuff! I had the notion to use it and gave it the ole tear test. It passed!
Merry Christmas David! I hope to be around more soon! Take care, Tim :)
+boggycreekbeast Thank you Brother Tim! And a very Merry Christmas right back at ya man!
Some great sewing there Dave. Thanks for a great tutorial. Take care bro. atb Opal
+Opal Preston Shirley Im happy you liked it, Take care and have a Happy New year Opal!
Thank you friend now l know how to make it,l've brought a small sewing machine last year,l was thinking about bags,
now l know so Thank you merry christmas take care friend
+john ross Sorbie Sounds great John! No reason why every cook set shouldnt have a bag. Good luck and have fun with it. Thanks for watching and you have a very Merry Christmas too!
really good to see new videos from you. informative and entertaining as ever.
+J.Douglas Hutchinson Thanks J, I'm glad you liked it and Thanks for watching.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this!
Thanks Laura!
What a good video, I was wanting to make a couple and didn't know how, now I do. Thanks, keep up the good work.
One you have fooled around with a sewing machine its no big deal and you will wind up making all kinds of stuff on it!
awesome as always, loved the bags, great ideas.
+brave wolf Thank you Wolf! Im glad you liked em.
Hi RBM1,
Have a wonderful holiday!
You can use a wooden spoon to push the cloth through in a narrow bag.
+mrbluenun Good idea! I actually do have a wooden spoon big enough. Happy Holidays to you too brother!
You sew better than me. As a matter of fact , I've never even used a sewing machine. You inspire me to try though.
Thanks , hope you and yours have a great Holiday Season.
Peace
+Bryan Resch I sew OK, it gets better the more I do tho. You should give it a go. Thanks for watching and Happy Holidays to you too Bryan
Wow very well done! Thank you so much for these great tips =)
+Elisabeth West You are very welcome, Thanks for watching Elisabeth.
Great job. I too make bags for everything but the tyvek liners is a great idea. My next will include the liner.
+Dave Rosa Thanks Dave! Yeah give the Tyvek a try. It really cleans up good even after you have had sooty pots or pans stored in it from a trip home. Thanks for watching!
as all ways love the videos keep up the good work. Keep Teaching and I will keep learning😉
+Donald Thomas Thanks Donald, I'm glad you liked it and learned from it. Thanks for watching.
