    One key to rule them all.
    One key to sign them.
    One key to trust them all
    and in the servers bind them.
    In the valley of silicon where the earthquakes are.

    Did he say "we can drill" to get the keys?

    • @zerobyte802
      @zerobyte802 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Atlantic-Support Yes. This is why the ultimate rule of security is "physical access = root access" period. The sites are physically guarded and monitored as well, so nobody with a drill is going to be getting anywhere near the vault. If there's a SHTF event (as the doomsday preppers call it) then those keys won't matter anyway. There won't be an internet anymore....

    • @MilesBellas
      @MilesBellas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      we can drill = we can do the drill
      drill = instruction or training in military exercises
      he means telephone the 5 people and perform the task to formally recreate the key.....
      that is what I understood, "we can drill" is not entirely grammatically correct

      2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
      2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

    Why not just use this key immediately to sign the root zone and then physically destroy the private key?
    It's not like TLDs are appearing every day, so all new TLDs additions can be postponed until the next Ceremony.

    This looks like a big security show to mask the real weak link here: those crypto boxes. If somehow these things can be forced to spit out the private keys in some way - be it hacked, modified firmware, bribing or backdoors by the company who made them, you name it - the whole thing is a red tape joke. And given all recent revelations, those who argue this is totally impossible may well be in for a surprise one day. If were to be part of this show, they could only seriously convince me by having a full build of those boxes' firmware on the spot, handing out a full post-build copy of the source code build platform to everyone present and subsequently loading the firmware on a fully exposed, photographed and documented hardware board, eventually sealed in a box. This show actually looks more worrying than reassuring to me.

    • @xavierbeauregard
      @xavierbeauregard 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone would have to hack it before it generates the next key. Also, maybe they buy new crypto boxes every time they generate a key...

    • @leafface5890

      I think after each ceremony they destroy the equipment used to generate the key, so they must use new equipment every time

      Dude. NSA wouldn't care a bit about breaking this mechanism. They don't want to redirect you to their servers, they want you to visit the real intended servers that this system promises. Only then you are guaranteed that you are not being cheated which makes you do stuff that NSA would spy on you by intruding your device and your connection
