  • Age problems in maths can be solved easily by combining all the information into a single equation and then solving. Lots of examples here too. No trick here - just step by step on how to solve.

      Time is constant. There might be questions about how long a working week is, but?
      Cells can change and such at different rates depending on certain factors in a biological sense, but time itself can't because it is constant.
      Logically it can't be changed, unless you make something like a 555 timing chip speed-up by a physical input as an example. But won't change anything about the constant.

    I done it mentally right now in 20 sec. ! Now Bob is 8 years old and Adam 36, in 6 years they will have respective 14 & 42..... because 14●3=42 ;) ~> with a equation will be so:
    *A+28+B=3B+6+A+6* ~>
    -2B=A-A+12-28 ~>
    -2B=-16 ~> B=16/2 ; today
    *B=8* ; *A=8+28=36*

    Here's an alternative way, using the fact that "three times as old as" is the same as "two times older than":
    The age difference (28 years) doesn't change, so in 6 years Bob has to add twice his age to his own to reach Adams age.
    Or he could still add 28 years, so:
    2*(Bob+6)=28 --> Bob+6=14 --> Bob=8.
    Since Adam=Bob+28, then Adam=36.

    In Adams Equation you deducted 28 from Bob but in Carls Equation you added 12 to Carls age , both equation mention of being them old then why the difference in building that equation ?

    @vinayagankuppusamy1027 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    By reading the question...we should let Bob' s age as x and Adam's age as x + 28
    Then, (x+28) +6 = 3( x +6)
    x + 34 = 3x +18
    3x-x = 34-18
    2x = 16
    x = 8
    Adam's age now = 28 + 8= 36
    Only my suggestion. Tq

    3:09 "so we're gonna add 66..."
    Why?? Why are we doing this???

    • @Cpt_Dave
      @Cpt_Dave ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's negative on the right side and you want to make it neutral (0) so you don't have to think about it in the equation. That's why you add the opposite, a positive, to make it 0. Basically -66+66=0.
      Because you did something on one side of the equation, you also have to do it on the other side. So 6+66=72.
      If you're asking why we're not subtracting the 6 and adding it on the other side, it's because we want to have a number on one side and the x on the other side of the equation.
      Definitely butchered math here, but it's the way I understand it. Hope it helps you.

    • @petermiddo

      Yes, I think adding 6 to the negative difference is warping the maths. The gap should always be 28, not become 22.

    • @petermiddo
      @petermiddo ปีที่แล้ว

      @tecmath actually, I still, don't get it. It's (x+6) -28. No matter how you look at the logic, you can't just trim six years from the age gap, unless you are saying "In 6 years time, Adams age will be 3 times the age he is now" which you haven't.
      No matter how old I am, I'm still 2 years younger than my sister. I can't just get closer in a maths puzzle because each year my sister gets older, and so do I.

    This reminds me of that old Abbott and Costello routine:
    - You’re 40 years old and theres a girl that’s 10 years old. You’re four times as old as that girl
    - you wait five years. By that time the girl’s 15 and you’re 45. You’re only three times as old as that girl.
    - you wait 15 years and the girl is 30, you’re at 60. You’re twice as old as the girl.
    - How long do you have to wait until you and that girl are the same age?
    😂😂😂👍

    • @Mai_Hu_Sarvagyani

      Abott can't be 100% same age of the girl ( There will be always age gap of 30 years)
      For 99% same age , His age would be 3000 years and the girl's age would be 2970 years
      For 99.99% , His age would be 300000 years and her's would be 299970 years🤩

      You forgot to add plus 6 to Bob in the second equation like I did. When Adam is 6 years older, Bob will also be 6 years older, so "A = B + 28" and "A + 6 = 3 (B + 6)".

    Adam = Bob + 28 (1)
    Adam + 6 = 3(Bob + 6) (2)
    Subtract (1) - (2)
    -6 = -2Bob + 10
    Bob = 8 so Adam = 8 + 28 = 36
    6 year from now
    Bob = 14 and Adam = 42
    42 = 3(14)

    I could never do these questions growing up, it wasn't really an issue about the maths, it was the badly worded written questions. In the last question, Dave is half the age of Carl, but we multiple Dave by 2, doesn't that make Dave twice as old as Carl instead?

    • @Cpt_Dave
      @Cpt_Dave ปีที่แล้ว

      No, try it with numbers.
      Carl is 10 and Dave is 5. Half the age of Carl.
      If we multiply 5 by 2 it equates to 10.
