Doing work in hand, I could't explain the haunches-in to my horse, Zygi. Following your example I broke it up in the two steps: and there it was!
Great, we're both able to do it smoothly now.

Thank you for this - I needed this broken down for me and I think using the rail will really help me and my horse to get haunches in for him.

I tell people that all good riding is actually Dressage .... and there you are proving my point !!!

You know you're a dressage rider in a western saddle, right?

Was waiting to see how you then took that into a canter and then flying lead change 😢

This is great! I have to transfer it to english riding, but it seems to me there are more similarities than differences... Thanks for this video!

I ride predominantly English, but train western and follow a ton of Ryan's videos... cross training has done wonders for my mare! She loves her western tack she thinks that we're just playing and having a relaxing ride! But I do all my new idea training in western so she thinks it's fun! Then we transfer it to dressage and it's much calmer happy experience!!

@ryan, thank you for sharing that haunches in is 4 tracks. As another way of thinking of it, is there a particular angle (using the wall or fence) of travel? Say 45°? Just curious.

Do horses naturally know to move the hindquarter off pressure ?
