It sound beautiful, but just wondering, wouldn't a gramophone damage a 1955 78 RPM electrically recorded record?

Absolutely not, electrically recorded shellac 78 rpm records have been around for many years . The only exception to this is some very late 78s were made from vinyl & they should only be played on a record deck fitted with a lightweight pick up .
