We have very similar experiences! I technically am exiting my lazy girl era too bc during the pandemic I was like “all working is toxic! All productivity too!” And it even influenced what types of videos I made. And now I view being productive or consistent in work or studying as me going after what I want in life and to me that doesn’t feel toxic. I have a negative relationship with the word discipline bc for so long (29 years undiagnosed ADHD) I thought I wasn’t capable of discipline, etc. now I realize my version of discipline includes pacing myself, breaks, strategic motivation when I “don’t feel like it.” I even have a better understanding of why I procrastinate and strategies to stop for the most part. I love this video because there are likely other people who are feeling like this - I don’t want to not try anymore lol
oof yes i feel that. it can be a really challenging line to walk 😭 i’m so glad that you’ve found a way to keep pursuing what you want in a way that feels good to you! thank you for sharing about your ADHD as well. so many people i know, especially woc, are never screened or diagnosed and it can have such long lasting effects. and yesss to your “i don’t want to not try anymore.” for so long, i felt as though i wasn’t good enough or deserving of the things i wanted and so not trying felt safer. but i’m excited for this next phase! as you said, discipline can look different for everyone and we can continue working towards what we want in our own ways ☺
Hi, thanks for mentioning my video! I totally made that video just to jump on the bandwagon and I figured if anyone else was seeing that type of content on their feed and was also wanting to “exit their lazy girl era” I could share some of the apps that were helpful to me. However this isn’t due to me truly being “lazy,” it’s actually due to my ADHD which involves the type of procrastination that you described just now. I like that you mention that procrastination could be caused by negative feelings because simply being “lazy” implies that the person doesn’t care at all. In fact, it’s the opposite! There definitely has to be balance between those moments of laziness and moments of discipline for me and after I discovered I have ADHD I have been trying to be kinder to myself when I can’t get myself to do stuff which is more sustainable than constantly pushing myself. I think your video was very insightful and thanks again for mentioning!! ♥️♥️
of course! ☺ i really enjoyed the video you made & hope you keep sharing your tips and experiences with the youtube world. & yes 100%! thanks so much for sharing about your ADHD. i think a lot of folks, especially woc, struggle with feeling as though something is “off” for a long time but are never diagnosed. i have a lot of friends who have recently been diagnosed and it’s helped them start to better understand and reframe a lot of how/why they do things. i’m so glad that you’re being more patient and kind with yourself 💗
