I think it's nice that your local bookstore carries classic works like this. I wonder if you have read any Library of America books? This year I plan to read the LOA version of the Travels of William Bartram. (You may recognize the name: the Bartrams lived in Philadelphia and they ran an import-export business in various plants. They searched for medicinal plants in particular. They were in fact serious botanists, and they were elected to the American Philosophical Society. The Travels recounts Willam Bartram's travels to Florida in 1770+, where he met the Choctaws and other tribes before they were sent out to Oklahoma. It's a pioneering study of these tribes, and it features some nice drawings that were made to illustrate various specimens. Note: LOA books are beautifully done, but they are a bit expensive.

That sounds really cool. I got the complete works of Steinbeck from LOA for Christmas. I'm really looking forward to tackling that project

Yes, I love LOA and have several of their volumes. One of these days, I'll devote a video to them. Bartram's Gardens is a site on the Schuykill River that you can visit in Philly. My daughter used to live not far away. I've found plenty of LOA titles on the used market, and bargains can be found if you're patient!

@@whalesequence An LOA edition of John Steinbeck would be something to behold. LOA never does an author halfway. Happy reading!

@@greatbooksbigideas Another LOA set that is on my reading list is the three volume collection of the writings of Thornton Wilder. He was a wonderful author who wrote for the long run. One of his projects aimed to update ancient Greek classics for modern readers. My grandparents owned a copy of The Bridge over San Luis Rey. And of course Our Town and The Skin of Our Teeth were required by my high school. Incidentally, Wilder was the teacher of historian David McCullough at Yale University.
