My whole life I have wanted one of these 55 to 59 GMC trucks. Trouble is here in Utah everything rusted away. And I never had the kind of money to fix one. I can just make the payment for my daily driver. My Grandfather had a 58 long bed that I loved. But my uncles destroyed it. If you have anything affordable for a poor man. Let me know. Love what you do. Gods work.

That fleet option GMC would make a great addition to your collection of working trucks as they would have been everywhere in fleet colours in the late '50s through to the mid '60s which certainly qualifies it as a working truck...

Back in 1980 at the BSA camp I work at we were given a 59 GMC milk truck...…..it lasted 1 year then was buried along with the others from years past......I went back in 86 for a staff reunion and the rain washed away the buried truck and I was able to remove the fleet option GMC "V" instrument cluster...….maybe if I dig around I might still have it somewhere!

I never knew of the Fleet series GMC pickup until a few months ago .. I love how they look and I did some research they were bare bones model.. essentially a stripped down version some or most came with radio, dome light and heater delete to keep cost down I have not seen around here but if I do seen old Chevy or GMC pickups of that vintage I will let know though not sure if you want to venture all the to South Dakota.. reason I watch your show is that my dad had an old 1957 Chevy pickup back in the late 1960s and when he was farming in the late 1970s, I want to say around 1978 or 79 my dad bought an old 1959 Chevy Viking 2 ton truck for the farm had twin head lamps and painted grille and bumper . it was black with what I call a pewter colored interior. sadly when my parents sold the farm in 1989 I wanted to buy that old truck but was talked out of as mom thought it was not proper for a young lady to drive an old farm truck as a daily driver.

great video rick I live in Muskegon Michigan and we just had like a whole family of bald eagles move in I hope they stay but think their probably here for winter food I had never seen one in person and just last week seen 4 within a mile radius 2 of them were full adults but 2 were dark colors with like white speckles and kind of a striped head and I was told they were juveniles and wouldn't get there full white head till there about 5 years old but I love seeing the eagles on ctr and hope we have a family of them here to stay too

I remember the '59 pickup. It was his farm pickup. He hauled a lot of cattle in it. Different bed then though, probably the reason. The Mrs. was a school teacher at Bridgeport school when my Mom worked there. They were great friends.Their farm was just down the road from ours, toward Falls City, growing up. Their Son lives there now. Was the old McCormick Deering a W-6 or W-9? The Chevy dealer in Salem was Capitol Chevrolet, right on the corner of Marion St and Commercial St., on the right before crossing Commercial St. and going over the Marion St, bridge. From there they moved out by the airport, now over on the Salem Parkway near Cherry St. Mom bought 2 cars from the owner, one was his Mothers '62 Chevy Impala, 327 and auto. Other was a '59, 235 with 3sp overdrive. I have that trans in my '52 pickup behind the original 216, full oiler conversion with a '56 open drive line rear end for cruisin' gear. The old '59 was T-boned by an Olds 98 right in the passenger door....James

Great video-they alway"s are.I was born in 59',who would have ever thought station wagons would be desirable,Of course when the 49 olds came out, they were immediately scrappin" flatheads and now they go for mega bucks.Guess it"s all relative. The parking lot in my senior year was full of muscle cars.69 z28"s,big block chevelles"s,gtx"s,gto"s,Even some fast ford"s(can"t believe I said that, senility?) My problem is I"ve alway"s gotten "emotionally attached" to everything I"ve ever had(not good)-thanks for what you do!

Excellent video! I had no knowledge of these Fleet option GMC's and was going to ask questions that you answered during the course of the video. Usually, only early 1958 cars and trucks retained the single headlight instead of duals until all the states ratified the changeover. For a 1959 to have it threw me off. I love the simple stamped bumper and grille. I agree it's too plain for collectors so I'm sure few exist. Awesome save.....Peace-out!

It makes sense that the fleet option truck would be rare today. Most of them, if not all, will have gone straight on to company fleets where they will have worked hard and probably been pretty tired by the time they were sold on to the general public. And then, when they went wrong back then almost no-one would have been interested in fixing them and putting them back on the road as most private individuals would have rather had the higher specification vehicles so they'd have been far more likely to get scrapped and broken up for what good parts they had to keep other, higher spec trucks on the road so, although a lot were probably made, very few will have made it through to today. It's often the case with older vehicles that the survivors that are around will be the higher specification vehicles and the base line ones will be almost extinct so there being 100 fleet option trucks known to survive now is not surprising. In fact, I would suggest that 100 surviving is actually a pretty good survival rate for such a basic vehicle which rather shows how tough these were...

I finally found a 2014 base Sierra, but it's automatic. They're not building any manual GM half tons anymore. :-(
