Bangalore BREAKFAST Food Tour | GREEN Idli, BHAAT (RICE) Dosa | Bangalore Food Tour

  • We have all tasted Dosa and Idli at some point in our lives, but the ones we tasted in Bangalore are not even close to what we have had earlier. The kind of variety, of just these two dishes, available in Bangalore is mind boggling. So we decided to try as many varieties of Dosa and idli and a few more dishes as we could.
    Our journey began at Veena stores with some Super Soft IDLI, VADA, BISIBELE BHAAT and KHARA BHAAT. Mind you, ALL OF THIS, is just breakfast!
    The first thing North Indians like us notice, is the coconut chutney which is quite different to the one we get. The chutney is not white at all, in fact it is green in colour with a little bit of green chillies and mint added. This chutney is super flavourful and an absolute necessity with just about any dish. After the super soft melt-in-the-mouth Idli, we tried a very different variation known as the GREEN IDLI. Fried in desi ghee and doused in a spicy mix of spinach. It's full of flavour and quite wholesome.
    The most interesting part of this trip was the variety of DOSA. Even though most of the Dosas had a potato filling in them and were served with same condiments, they all had quite a distinct flavour. We tried the Benne Dosa which is made in A LOT of Butter. It's super crisp and heavenly to taste. We then went for the Benne KALI DOSA, which was slightly softer but equally Buttery. Then the Kali Dosa, which is an open Dosa topped with a finely mashed potato masala, chutney and lots and lots of ghee. Finally, we ate the BHAAT MASALA DOSA which is topped with spiced rice, potato masala, chutney and again Ghee. The variety of Dosa to try in Bangalore is insane and each one of them is as good as the previous one.
    The Breakfast Food Tour came to an end on sweet note at HOLIGE MANE, where we tried the traditional Mane and Badam mane as well. It is white flour dough balls stuffed with a variety of fillings, cooked in hot oil and topped with ghee. This sweet dish was totally worth it. Try all these amazing meals in Bangalore!

    I wish I was hosting Anubhav in Bangalore! I have enjoyed so many of his shows. I was born in Bangalore (in Malleswaram actually) and spent the first 25 years of my life in Bangalore, my beloved city, it will always be a part of me! Thank you Anubhav for visiting my city and showcasing its delicacies to everyone.

    As being born in Kolkata & later staying in Delhi, Food is now in my DNA. For past few months, I have shifted to Bangalore. Till now, for me Bangalore was all about excellent breweries & fine dining restaurants of Koramangala & Lavelle Road (though I found & relished some enchanting dosas in Brigade Road & MG Road area & how can I forget the awesome Mangalorean sea food in Mahesh Lunch Home, Tom's Restaurant & Anupam Coast II Coast and my perception about South Indian Food was changed heavily) but this video explored an arena of Bangalorean food which is quite unknown (I believe) to people who have settled here from other parts of India. I can't thank you enough for showing us this ethereal side of Bangalorean cuisine. Hats off. Awesome work.

    One cannot mess with the crispiness of vada by putting even a drop of chutney/sambar over it...the correct way to relish it is mixing vada with sambar/chutney in the mouth and not on the plate....:)

    • @akhilams6898
      @akhilams6898 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But sir here in Namma uru... When you ask for a dip, they give the vada completely immersed in sambar. And some people( mostly all!!!!!) Prefer to put chutney over the soaked vada and enjoy it! 😊😊
      If it's single vada also people usually do the same, dip it in both sambhar and chutny & then have.. 😊.. so the crispyness and the absorbed taste of sambhar & chutney gets infused to the bite sized pieces.. 2 in 1 !

      But as South Indian we never allow it to be seperated [Vada, Dosa, Idly, Pongal] unlike roti in a plate & Dhal in katori. We want these items to be in dipped [soaked] in Sambar., :P :P

    It is the continuation of Bengaluru breakfast food tour in India. I was able to eat lots of Dosa and Idli. Rice, tomato, green chili, garlic, and various spices were delicious. Finally, coffee came out in the same country in every country. I can not believe it when I only knew curry. It has become like I feel like being in India. Comfortably . And I gradually became used to Indian cuisine. Once in the end, just watching it on video can not do much. You should have thought so. My heart may already be in India. Thank you very much.

    great videos . one thing that intrigued me was that Bhaat for the people who live along the chenab river in Pakistan is a rice dish accompanied by chicken curry , spiced potato, daal , and a mutton curry served with spicy tomato chutney . any idea if some communities have bhaat the same as on this side of the border? also bhaat u cannot find in restaurants its always home meal on sundays etc . keep up the good work . from Lahore Pakistan

    Even though im from Western part of india living in Bangalore for 10 years, I must say that breakfast tastes amazing here.
    However if im a newcomer & wants to b shown around, i will still never select that lady. I would rather choose a kannadiga who knows the right places.
    She was more concerned abt eating than Anubhav ji was. She was reacting as if she was having th food for 1st time.
    Every once in while Anubhav ji aisa sample piece kahi se leke aate hai jisko kuch pata nahi hota.
    Bhukkhad kahi ki 😆😂

    Amazing video. I have been out of India for over 11 years now. I am proper kannadiga from Bangalore and I must say, although your videos are packed with different places to explore and variety of food. The choice of guest for this video is very very poor. She is not a local kannadiga and can’t even pronounce the dish names right!
    Still amazing video and hope to see some more awesome eat outs of my city.

  • @rakeshmamdapur
    @rakeshmamdapur 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Well made video.. though i have a couple of comments (my 2 cents :P) to make, not just about this particular video but, in general.
    1. when you select a co-host, please choose someone who is truly a local person who knows the true delicacies of that place. For instance: in this video, it appears that Anamika (if i got that right) is trying most of the dishes for the very first name. Plus she was pronouncing most of the names incorrect.
    2. When you are covering big cities such Delhi/Bengaluru/Mumbai etc. it is simply not realistic to cover all the good places. Even in this video you covered restaurants in and around Malleshwaram which is just one part of Bengaluru ( by no means I an intending that it isnt good, I have been in Malleshwaram and i know its Charm), however, there are many other places as well where you get some really authentic karnataka breakfasts. So you might want to suggest which part of the place you will be covering in each video (such as south bengaluru, north bengaluru etc)
    3. Another very imp point which i have noticed you mentioning in all the videos of yours. Just by adding loads of ghee/butter doesn't make the dish tastier on its own. It certainly enhances the taste of the dish. However, the dish inherently has to be tasty to further enhance it. So you can't just make a statement that "since it has so much of ghee/butter it is bound to be tasty". That is an incorrect statement. It's like saying just because a dessert has lots of sugar it will be tasty.
    4. What i have seen in your videos compared to Trevor's Food Ranger, or Mark Wiens, you tend to cover a lot of places (which is certainly great), but you don't spend enough time in your video in highlighting the food, the way it is prepared/cooked and appreciating the food. Ideally, you would want to tempt your viewers to go and have the food and enjoy it. More expressions will certainly help your cause. Or you can get a couple of co-hosts like how the EatTreat guys are doing.
    By no means I am implying that your work isn't good, it is great and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. So a big thanks for bringing these videos to us and keep up the good work :)
