Sheldon Keefe Is The New Jersey Devils Next Head Coach!

- With the constant names being mentioned and rumors swirling of who the next head coach of the NJ Devils would be it was announced that Sheldon Keefe Is The New Jersey Devils Next Head Coach!
In this video I discuss my reaction to the the news of Keefe being The Devils new bench boss and how its a good decision. Keefe Had tremendous success with the Toronto Maple Leafs coaching them to the playoffs every season, but couldn't get them over the hump come playoff time. Can Keefe find more success with The Devils stars like Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, Jesper bratt, Timo meier, Luke hughes, and Simon Nemec and company. Can Tom Fitzgerald add more to this roster to help the Devils compete for a Stanley Cup. I Discussed all that in this video.

Leafs fan here. A great coach. Team overachieved. One of the highest man games lost during the season. Injuries to Nylander and Matthews in the first round and still made it to the 7th game in OT. Only once were they favoured in a series and they won that. Yes they lost to Montreal but lost their captain in the first game. They outplayed them still but they got goalied by Price who made it to the final. Seriously a solid coach who will bring a winning attitude to NJ. Similar teams with similar issues with good young forwards, suspect goaltending and soft defence. He'll do fine. Great hire.

The one concern being his playoff record is NOT something that I'm worrying about. Pretty much the entire hockey media and a lot of Toronto fans have all said that the playoff failures was not on the coaching, it was on the team. They also went up against really tough teams every year and "Leafs are gonna Leaf". Keefe can get this NJ team to find their way back to the playoffs and then it's going to be on the players to ante up and kick in to find ways to win from there. I think we all know that Fitzy is going to try to find the keys to goaltending and defense in the offseason, so give Keefe a complete team and I think he's going to do well in NJ.
Also, as a side note, I like having a young coach who isn't part of the coaching carousel of the same guys who've been hired and fired a million times. Fresher blood is a good thing especially when we're considering how the NHL keeps changing. We need coaching that is going to work in the current NHL and not bring in someone who still has the style and planning of yesteryear.

Iam a Toronto MapleLeafs Fan. I Think that New Jersey did a Good job in Hiring Sheldon Keefe he do a good job Job Coaching the New Jersey Devils. I Hope he Does well in New Jersey. He has lots of Work ahead of him, However he Should Succeed.

New scene, new team. Keefe will get this offense humming. Fitz just needs to add a few pieces (goalie + defense) in the offseason. I'm happy.

I'm a lifetime leaf fan and loved Sheldon Keefe. I understood why he had to go. He made some mistakes and I think he will learn from his mistakes and it should make him an even better coach in NJ. Devils fans should see some entertaining games and Sheldon isn't afraid to get that "blender" out. He'll teach the forwards to play better fefensively and that will help the Devils succeed. I wish him luck but not when he's playing the leafs.

"His playoff record sucks" 1) he's not solely responsible for Toronto being cursed 2) at least makes the playoffs every year which has not been the case for our team, 2009-2010 was the last time we made the playoffs in back to back season. He's a young guy with room to grow with this core, excited about this hire and I think we're going to see a lot of success under him.
I agree, im warming up to the idea of Keefe as our coach. I think of the names left he was definitely the best choice for us

My choice would have been Berube, but once he was taken, Keefe is my 2nd choice. Hopefully, he learned that accountability is necessary and takes appropriate steps to get the most out of our young players. Keefe is supposedly a great communicator so if Holtz is on the team next year, there won't be any of Lindy's head games.
I agree! My first and 2nd were Sullivan and berube but im liking this Keefe signing, I think hell be good for us

You too & I know I cant wait, i miss the Devils playing, at least we can see some of our players in the IIHF, but looking forward to next season, and I think Keefe will do a good job
Totally agree, he should be just the guy to get us to win consistently. Just hope he instills a great culture. We definitely have some passengers on this ride.

I agree, the more im seeing of Keefe im liking. I saw some video of him in the locker room before a Montreal vs Toronto playoff game trying to pump up the team and I heard the fire in him.

Indifferent, i dont mind it, wasnt my first choice, he won in the AHL, and is good wit young guys.. plus Toronto is a different beast than New Jersey..
I'm warming up to Keefe, wasn't my first choice either, but hes shown to be a good coach. Just hope he doesn't take it easy on our star players like he did with the Leafs

Fitz openly admit there was too much of a country club atmosphere around the team this year. There is plenty of time for fun and lightheartedness etc, but there is also a time to get to business and be professional. It is a failure of management to have allowed this to happen to the point that they were questioning guys dedication to being in shape and putting in the work off the ice. A team that is a favorite as a cup contender doesn't have the GM telling people the players conditioning sucked at the end of the year. Unacceptable.
I agree Louie, and I do remember Fitzgerald mentioning this. Hopefully he brings in some playoff performers because this team needs some grit and hard on puck players along with our skill

Watching the playoffs, can you even see j hughes out there? answer, no.
I cant see half our team out there this year lol, but we did make it through the Rangers last year so the potential is there, just need to add some umph to this lineup
