The story behind the dance is a folklore among the DAI ethnic minority group living in the beautiful region of Yun Nan in southern China. Peacock dance is popular among local villages and tribes. Peacock is a sign of auspicious and good fortune. The legend says that hundred of years ago, a King lead his people to find fishery in the jungle and the lakes. A peacock led him to a lake with abundance of fish for his people. And the dance was then started to celebrate for the good sign. It is still widely celebrated monthly by peacock dance.
