LAURIE: See more of Tom playing TTRPGs on Mystery Quest, and watch out for a new series with myself and Sully there soon 👉 @Mystery_Quest
I'm loving the amount of crossover appearances happening on these sorts of playthrough channels recently. It's got to be really good for helping all of them to increase their potential reach.
i just binge watched a bunch of mystery quest call of cthulu games a week or 2 ago
That is what I wanted to hear! Thanks!
Billy Bucket ❤
Yyyeeeeeeeeesss such a good collab, hope this one is recurring one!
One of the absolute best one shots I have played, 10/10 would lose sanity points again.
Well... do more!! (please?)
That's just the insanity talking. We'll wait until you are released from the asylum to get your true thoughts.
Sully v Lydia. Literally any game. Make it happen.
Showing some Tom love ❤ thanks for bringing one of my favourite creators into this creation. Any chance a flip feature on the mystery quest channel??...
@@sullivano1 Pinned comment from this channel says that Laurie and Sully will be on Mystery Quest.
Only 4 buttons open? Tom is dressed fit for church, he must be nervous.
😂
Fuckin' amazing
Daym... if his name was not in the title. I would not have recognized him with that modest cleavage
Didn’t want to show up Dan Layton on these channels I would imagine 😂
That's his Victorian costume.
Laurie going "He rifles through his wardrobe and its just grey suits, it's all grey suits, he picks the greyest one." absolutely sent me, such excellent characters haha
I love that Dom writes this very serious scary story and the players just play the most comedy characters they can ^_^ It's very Terry Pratchett :D
It's an absolute testament to Dom's skill I feel. Call of Cthulhu should be creepy but no-one (except NRB Tom) likes playing creepy characters over funny characters. For Dom to allow four players each to have fun with their character quirks and still maintain an atmosphere of spookiness is demonstrative of his ability as Keeper.
I feel like this is a standard thing for Call of Cthulhu GMs. Or perhaps I just have the same sort of luck that Dom does.
Dom: The insane man is terrified of speaking THAT name. Party: Hastur la vista, baby!
1:35:20 Florrie to Mr Stickler "You could be a very talented medium"
Well, with all his stats at 50, he's the very definition of 'medium'.
Tilly truly is an incredible actor, her entire demeanor changes and it's very impressive. Side note though, Tilly, 1800s dresses have absolutely MASSIVE pockets, you can fit so many books in those
Oh god really?! Feminism's gone backwards in that case. Thank you so much 💖
Apparently is a satchel type thing that was put under neath the outer skirt, but on after the corset
So many pockets and often very large, too! There's probably several Shorts out there of nice historical costuming ladies pulling scissors, books and even entire wine bottles out of their skirts!
@@hrani thats where I learned it.
@@tilly_steele it is a little like a belt with one or two lage bags, they could go all the way down the thigh even. Women would wear them between the layers of skirts.
The ending was so good, how you managed to draw from the last three hours of off-the cuff comedy RP and turn it into into absolute scary insanity.
There is a scenaro that you follow along as it is with most pen and paper RPGs, you usually push your players into right direction with clues that are in the scenario like a NPC or a book. There are different endings depending on what players know and were able to prevent.
IT'S FUCKING TODDY!!!!!
TODDY!
KAZRAK FUCKING ONE EYED TOOK MY EYE!!
HE TOOK MY FUCKING EYE, BEN!
HAPPY FUCKING FESTAG!
Shit the bed!
Thank god he was wearing his signature look, else I'd have never realized TOM WAS APPEARING ON CN
i'm wondering what the first impression of him is like to all the people not familiar with yogscast. lmao I could only imagine.
@@SpaceMissileThat Man is a national treasure is my first impression !
The ending is a master class in improv. The moment Laurie said he thought they were in a sanatorium the mood of the table shifted. All of them building off of each other to create the ending reveal that they were actually the ones who were crazy.
Perfect.
The constant contrast of something horrible and traumatic happening to Mr. Houses followed by "Meanwhile, at the pub" was a constant joy
Omfg that ending!! That was the most incredible bit of DMing I've ever seen. They way he took all the stuff that had happened and wrapped all in. Amazing 😱😱😱😱
3:16:40 is such an incredible example of good roleplay. Tom essentially set himself up to be shot and lose a huge amount of his hitpoints, and went ahead with it because it's what his character would do.
1:53:35 “put that man down! Can’t you see it’s the cat who’s guilty?!” “Ah you might be on to something that cwt did try to attack me earlier!” i’m DYING OF LAUGHTER PLS. That’s so funny
2:33:35 another amazing series of quips xD I’m loving this character from Laurie.
fucking hell that was CHILLING
Dom is such a good GM and I've just realised how much I love cosmic horror
Tilly has, over time, become far and away my favourite member of NRB, and I love seeing her in videos. Detected a very definite twang of Mystic Meg in her accent today, which I adore.
Of course, Dom is an absolute master of his craft, and that craft is evil.
I had to come back and compliment this because youtube app crashed at the end of the episode. :)
#1 - Dom is fast becoming one of my favorite storytellers for online RPGs, his range of character and ability to manage player chaos is great.
#2 - This is quite possibly the best use I have ever seen of the King in Yellow, most gms fall into a booga-booga monster pattern without understanding the gothic horror background of the character, its actually pre-Lovecraft and dates to 1895 by an author called Robert W Chambers for those of you who want to check it out.
#3 - the final twist of the knife is the perfect Carcossa ending, and is beautifully executed by Dom. Every gag, every out of control player moment changes from comedy to horror, and the players don't realize it till its too late.
The King in yellow isn't a tentacle monster our to eat you, or an uncaring cosmic entity. He's personal. He wants you to be your most magnificent self.
Its just that sometimes the the most magnificent version of you, is the most magnificent disaster.
Yeah, post-Lovecraft inclusion of KiY in the Mythos just turns him into another boring wobbly space monster. I much prefer the ideas of what he could have been before he got lumped in with Lovecraft.
Tom? And NRB? This is something I can get behind.
One step closer to a full Yogscast/NRB crossover.
Imagine a yogs/nrb blood on the clocktower, with Daddy-ben DMing it with Tom (Yogs tom. Although nrb tom is fucking incredible)
@@dragonzord6615omg yogs Tom playing Clocktower would be hilarious!
@@dominicallen541 Anything yogstom is hillarious haha. If you ever have the time, check out some of the tom and ben warhammer wednesday stream. They're complete brand risks, but a good time :D
The yogs tried doing clocktower about 9 months ago but it was a total mess, none of them knew the rules at all. Hopefully we can get a cute colab with nrb doing clocktower to help them out with that.
oink oink
A moment of appreciation for Tilly's outfit 🔥😍
Amen to that.! 😍😍😍😍
Goth Tilly is too powerful 😍
@@geordieghoulette7142 does that cause a san check ?
A moment of appreciation for how unhinged her character is xD
Her outfit in the first “blood on the Clocktower series 2” is worthy of praise too. Tilly is one of my fave NRB players because of her dry sense of humour.
Dom is an amazing storyteller. I find my attention span is SHOCKING lately, but Dom never fails to capture my attention.
I love Call of Cthulhu
The outfits in this episode are so beautiful! Dom? Absolutly elegant! Tom? Wonderful! TILLY?! Deadly stunning!
Laurie? BALD AND GREY!
absolutely INCREDIBLE. Dom is such a talented and twisted storyteller and I’m so glad we’re getting to see more of him in this capacity, building such rich worlds and showing off his acting chops as he embodies the npcs. also so pleased to be seeing more of Tilly, she’s very funny and obviously an incredibly talented actor. Sully too - hilarious as always in a way that never misses. I love seeing Laurie get to have so much fun and show off his quick wit and character building skills! I’m very new to ttrpgs so I’ve not encountered Tom before and he really gelled with this group, excited to watch more of him. fantastic work as always, it’s wonderful to see you guys getting to really have fun with this channel that’s been so long in the works. you deserve it!
Mystery Quest is well worth checking out. Tom's patented cold opening sequences are worth the ticket price alone.
tom also does lets plays of cool indie games on his channel @AngoryTom, and does warhammer streams every tuesday on the yogscast twitch channel.
@@kylelockhart3122 Only go to the tuesday streams if you like centaurs, berry milk, sounding or the great Kremlo.
@@dragonzord6615 praise kremlo, he came from space
The fact that there was so much hilarity just made the ending hit so much harder. It's like if you were watching Dumb and Dumber but it suddenly switches over to Pulp Fiction.
Florrie Peeps and Robert Reek? Amazing callbacks!
It would be so cool to see more chaotic neutral extended universe
I didn't catch Peeps at first but Reeks made me listen a bit closer!
but no Constable Quinnell this time
Can’t believe nobody believes Sullivan, the dog was clearly the culprit for that past case.
miss peeps reminds me of a certain harry who had gone insane but the only thing remotely keeping him intact was a certain french artist
Probably her grandson. They have a familiar look.
I'm a simple person. I see Tom playing Call of Cthulhu, I watch.
When the guy said he was "writing a play" I knew these guys were not going to be ok...
The title of the video did give the game away somewhat! Can't use the colour yellow in CoC without raising a few eyebrows.
The last call of Cthulu campaign now has me go through all of the apocalypse players podcast. Love that you guys have done this channel :)
Same here, currenty half way through the crimson letters
@@adamfletcher7330 ooo ive not done that one yet that was the one i was going to go for next
Same! Just finished the trail of loathsome slime
Crimson letters is the one I'm doing too
Holy cow Tom the best man with the NRB group? Sully and Tom in the same room? Tom playing with Dom as GM? Sad I only have 1 like to give
I tuned in to enjoy seeing Tom in something. But the entire cast were incredible, I found Dom's style as keeper to be utterly captivating. Now I shall have to dive in to the back catalogue of Chaotic Neutral shenanigans and watch the lot. I could not be more pleased to have stumbled upon this channel. Amazing work, thank you for the entertainment.
If you're not already familiar with their main channel, check out No Rolls Barred. Dom hosts these amazing Monopoly variations that's just gold! It's rarely scary but definitely worth watching (they do also have a few other TTRPGs on there from before they made this channel).
DOM AND THR KING IN YELLOW!!!!!!!!!! WE MAKIN IT TO CARCOSA WITH THIS ONE!!!!!!
"Some sh** went down..."
"I'm going to lick the blood..."
Oh, some sh** went down indeed!
I ADORE Tilly's character in this she's so unsettling and mean in the most entertaining polite way possible
Wherever there is a Tom, there must be a Ben. A nerd to handle the boring work. Someone to keep the empire solvent. A Stickler.
Good show, I'm off to watch more of your stuff!
Dom chanelling his inner Irish landlady is amazing.
It's not even 5 mins in and this episode has already peaked with Sherkey Houses. Sherkey fucking Houses, brilliant!
Wow! The crossover I didn't expect but immediately super hyped about it!
51:57 you’ll be pleased (or perhaps infuriated) to learn that women’s clothes not having pockets is actually a modern invention! Yay?
I come from Tom's channel and holy crap Dom is an amazing GM!! The voices and accents are brilliant!! An interesting change from Ol' Tommy Two Voices
Tommy Two Tones
If you want to see (hear) more of Dom as a GM, he does so on a Call of Cthulhu podcast called The Apocalypse Players
CALL OF CTHULU WITH SHERLOCK HOLMES VIBES? HELL YES!
Wow this was a phenomenal oneshot!
*SPOILER*
I feel like Mr. Stickler probably killed his wife and children when they were being too messy...
The implications seems they were all killers except Tilly's character who's lover got her committed to get rid of her. Which could have something to do with the fact that everyone was either insane or nearly insane by the end except Tilly's character.
Obviously, i was just adding a bit of flavour @@slenderslayer8203
@@slenderslayer8203I think Sully is the man that set fire to the parliament buildings. The thing about him blaming the dog as the real one responsible likely being that he used dogs to hide the explosives. Laurie is a straight up serial killer. Cool, calm, and collected. His on the surface mediocrity being a shield to avoid being caught. But it was his notes and writing down of the names of those he killed that got him caught. His wife likely turning him in and she was killed alongside his kids as his last murders. Tom is as stated in the episode. He is the strangler. Tilly is as you said. The only one not crazy. Just an innocent woman that was thrown into the sanatorium by her lover in an attempt to get rid of her. Tilly not being crazy but given her status as woman in Victorian society they didn't believe her. The diamond is likely just a wedding ring that was denied to her when she was sent away.
I read Tilly as much as gilted wife as her ‘medium’ abilities being, in narrative, a genuine mental illness of hallucinations (her links to the mythos, for example). Not dangerous or a killer, but someone whose husband seemed to eventually not be able to control. Ties nicely with the idea of a ‘benefactor’ - in a sense, he was keeping her from being imprisoned until it was too much for him to bear. Given she’s meant to be an older lady, it could - in a darker turn - be onset of dementia or Alzheimer’s that, in the Victorian reality of medicine not yet caring for mental health, be a husband deeming she has ‘went mad’
It begins! But will this episode surpass last time's hilarity with "Ivan Brett from The Traitors"?
Guess we'll have to tune in and see... XD
New to the channel, fan of Tom's work over on mysterious quest - so thought I'd give this one shot a watch. Truly fantastic, the players were great - adding so much humour but also a wild amount of spooks through their responses to the rolls. The keeper is amazing, he really caught me off guard a few times with subtle horror descriptions, incredible voice work and a intriguing story. I hope to see more of this channel in future and look forward to them featuring on mystery quest!
The thing I love about this episode is that there's all sorts of Easter eggs for fans of the King in Yellow lore, and yet the players genuinely seem to be unfamiliar with it, and so don't really get what they're in for, which is a refreshing change from hearing seasoned CoC players who immediately back away from anything to do with the King in Yellow.
🙏🏻
Tom is a big fan of Lovecraftian mythos, I would be surprised if he didn't get at least a couple references, but he could have been too deep in his method 😂
@@shynarcissist Ah, that's cool. But the emphasis is definitely on the 'seem to be' - they all immerse themselves so well in their characters I can't tell. But I guess they are professional actors/presenters.
I'm pretty sure Tom has DM'd a game on TH-cam that featured Hastur, though I may be thinking of one of his CoC video game LPs.
I don't have time to watch this video right now but the fact that the yogs and nrb have now officially collaborated makes me so damn happy. I will be watching this video the absolute second I have the chance because Toms mystery quest has been my favourite thing for months
Came to see Tom, but this whole crew is fantastic. Looking forward to seeing them guest on Mystery Quest!
I believe Dom has already been a guest on Mystery Quest right?
@@AceArata I don't recall that. Which campaign?
@@RubelliteFae I was completely mistaken, Dom has yet to appear on Mystery Quest
@@AceArata Oh, no worries. Maybe it was an old Games Night thing or something?
@@RubelliteFae No no, embarassingly, I mistook Stu - a guest for Brindlewood Bay - for Dom. Similar haircut mostly
Great seeing Angory Tom on here, such great chemistry between all of the group too. Funniest session I’ve seen in a while
This was amazing. I'm in awe of the way Dom played that, especially at the end.
"Are you a pet detective, Mr. Houses?" definitely cost me some sanity points. Still chuckling.
Please get Tom in more, he's the perfect match for this team, this was hilarious!
I love how they all aggressively threw Sully under the bus as quickly as they could.
cant believe tom just played himself! brilliant oneshot, loved all the players and the Keeper was magnificent
I don't know why, but 'AND PAY THE LANDLADY' had me in stitches!!
Kinda felt bad for Sherkey in this one. Thrown into the cosmic horror deep end right out the gate, his only defense a rich vein of lovable buffoonery...
Please get this group together again perfect synergy
this might be pretty niche, but I'm LOVING the repairer of reputations callback with mr. Wilde! The King in Yellow is my fav mythos
Can you elaborate that for me? I’ve been loving Dom’s COC hosting and wanna know more.
@@Fragger_PhrstMr Wilde is one of the main characters in The Repairer of Reputations, the first of many stories in The King in Yellow by Robert Chambers (which is essentially a weird fiction book written before HPL’s time but which inspired him and his friends quite a lot)- I haven’t finished viewing this ep yet, but other elements like “the yellow sign” and “Carcosa” are clearly inspired by TKIY, so if you’re interested in mythos-adjacent literature I’d definitely recommend you give it a read!
Me in the first half: “clearly Tilly’s character is so resistant to insanity because she’s already insane.”
Me in the second half: “Oh.”
Laurie’s versatility as different characters is amazing! An old distinguished curator, a German who’s enthralled by the Wild West, an earnest stickler accountant, a lizard creature, and of course, Ivan Brett from the Traitors… 👏👏👏👏👏
Also the names are hilariously thoughtful 😂
Not to mention Dino D.A.N.
1:28:25
It's very rare for me to get so unsettled, or even straight scared from a dnd bit, let alone some fun storytelling. This has to be the most frightening Visage I've heard. Dom, kudos to you as the madman you are!
I love the case of Houses v Moribarky
There's been a bad murder, thank god we've got the best^1 detectives on the case!
^1 best available
I don’t know for sure if the ‘did a bad murder’ line was supposed to be a reference to Psychoville but it is in my head
@@AngoraWinch "done a bad murder" is a very Angory Tom phrase. He did a series of "Shadows of Doubt" featuring a lot of bad murders and also hard drinking detectives.
@@DavidRickmann He's been saying it a lot longer than that, but he strikes me as someone who's enjoyed Psychoville, too.
in the intro Tom should have cut Dom and said, "or is it.. a myster quest?" :D
Oh my, the end was *_phenomenal_*
Found this video through Tom and Mystery Quest, and endedd up watching this in one sitting, I was so engrossed. Absolutely loved this, everyone struck a great balance between comedy and horror, with some genuinely spine-tingling moments. The ending was brilliant. Dom is a great Keeper and I loved how everyone fully embraced the madness.
I did not know that "Cthulhu Comedy Speed-run" was something I needed in my life. Thank you.
Woop woop. The Great Old Ones are spoiling me. I've got this to watch now, and later on tonight, there's Time For Chaos from the Glass Cannon crew.
Another great CoC show. Would love to see a crossover there but Zoom only because the Atlantic’s in the way.
I love how Tom is just playing as himself.
ITS TODDY!!!!!!!! The crossover we all wanted!
Brilliant. Genuinely creepy in parts. I put it on to watch as I played Dorfromantik and it turned 30min game into a 4 hour one.
Will be interesting to see how much Laurie’s Mr Strickland creeps me out when I rewatch it.
Tilly was super good in this! I was impressed from the first part her character appeared and it just kept getting better. Her ability to push, wow!
Big mystery quest fan who’s subscribed here thanks to this
Really great podcast super funny and spooky great acting all round - excited to see if and who might be coming in to mystery quest in the future from here…
2:29:10 Kinda diappointed that Tom didn't react to this with his trademark "BLAMMO!"
I am absolutely delighted to see Tom C on here. A roleplaying crossover I've always dreamed of!
28:43 the dog framer strikes again!!!
Wow, what a fucking episode. Never disappoints but this one hit so damn good.
Appreciate all the nods to the source material.
Loving the fact that Tilly's character ties this all back to the first NRB Call of Cthulu game.
2:32:07 that whas a VERY good squeeky noise from dom
I love my Angory Tom, thanks for having him and glory to the Algorithm for leading me to this great channel in search of aforementioned Tom.
We need to see Dom host a live game with his fellow Apocalypse Players.
And Sullivan. 😈
AMAZING!! AMAZING!! AMAZING!!
This episode of Call of Cthulhu. I went absolutely CRAZY about how BLOODY good the story today is, and how I was DROWNING in excitement and emotion, from the plot twist
AMAZING!! AMAZING!! AMAZING!!
Sublime content as ever! Dom has fantastic presence as the game master, and the players really bring their characters to life 10/10
K, so Laurie and Sullivan are such reliable entertainment - super work. Tilly's characterisation is always A1, and some of the looks to camera are class. Never seen Tom before, but I warmed to him massively throughout this.
But Dom... Just a total fancreature for him!
Fantastic episode! Tillys character was an absolute gem, she played it so well! Cant wait to see more
Never expected this crossover wtf, two worlds colliding
Hopefully we get tom and ben on NRB playing board games too. If they can stop talking about centaurs and sounding...
I love it that your release these as a 4h video, i hate waiting for the end!
I really hope that if the channel ever does a longer campaign, like Masks of Nyarlathotep or Horror on the Orient Express, Tilly is one of the players. She's great at making interesting characters and embodying them in a way that is really engaging and not simply outwardly comedic. It would be really interesting to see what she could do with characters that undergo more dramatic changes over time.
It’s not out yet, but I believe Tilly has been playing another of Dom’s original scenarios with The Apocalypse Players podcast which has supposedly been in the works for a while and which I assume will result in quite a long campaign so keep an eye out for that also!
This campaign was so much fun. I love Chaotic Neutral and Mystery Quest and I hope these collabs aren't a one time thing, probably not common or anything but I really hope they happen every once in a while as a treat.
Spoilers
I'm curious whether each player knew they had a darker backstory (and whether anyone suspected they weren't the only one), or if Dom was just furiously taking notes every time they made a joke.
Everyone was great! I appreciate the commitment to character over trying to "win".
Wow! I’m halfway through and Tilly is amazing!
I've got to say Dom is one of the best DMs you can probably ask for. Great mood setting and hilarious silliness. Great work and amazing content you all.
Really great oneshot! First intro into this group (thanks to my recommended vids catching Tom in the title), and I'm definitely loving how it scratches that same itch as Mystery Quest. Also, the subtleties in the sound design were superb! So much attention to detail, it really felt immersive.
Great group, very fun, all exceptional in different ways, but shout out to Tilly who was so locked in the whole time that I genuinely don't know what she's like out of character after watching this. Looking forward to watching more of your games!
Ah Mister Bill Bucket, he caught the Bristol pusher!
Tom!? TOM?! Why is Tome here?! Amazing Bam! Bam!
Tom was such a great addition
OH MY GOD IT HAPPENED
I so wanted some collab between NRB/CN and yogs and here we are, I couldn’t be more hyped! My two favourite slices of TH-cam in one place!
