I noticed almost every player that Pope has recruited. They all average at least 1 steal per game and 2 assists per game or more. That creates problems for the other teams. Coach Bill Self at Kansas said the problem with coaching against Pope is this. Pope is bringing back the Pitino style that he used when he at UK in 90s except Pope as extremely modified it to today's style of play. That is hard to coach against. He said that right after Kansas lost at home to Pope's BYU team last year. This team will be a run and gun, going after the ball in every time they are on defense. They are going wear teams out one the floor.

This is not 1996 SEC nor college basketball and it amazes me the excitement in regard to a coach hired who has never won a single NCAA Tournament game, nor a conference tournament championship, nor a conference regular season title. It hasn’t been any coach in the modern era who hasn’t had at least some or all of those accomplishments until now. I think the athletic department went after him due to the lack of interest from big name coaches specifically on figuring it would go over well simply based on him being a former player. Well folks a press conference has never won a single game in the history of basketball. The athletes in today’s SEC are built different than the days of old.
