I don’t wear nail polish either. I’m a pianist so it chips unless I get it done in a salon and that is way too time-consuming. I get that some women consider it self-care but I’d rather have a nap.
Soooo excited for what you said about no designer brands, focusing on smaller brands instead!! The pieces I love the most (especially accessories) are all from small companies. And as companies get big, quality and ethics always seem to go downhill precipitously (ex Cuyana).
I refuse to buy silk anymore. It's way too delicate and difficult to care for. I've managed to ruin one silk top with deodorant, and my silk Chlo blouse from Sezane has permanent sweat stains in the armpits 😅 I'll choose viscose any day over silk.
Haha fair enough! I think it depends on the quality and texture of the silk, same as viscose tbh. That non-shiny silk the Chlo is made from will easily show sweat stains
This blouse looks amazing on you! 😊 For sandals: the brand "ancient greek sandals" has been a revelation for me. The Outnet or other places have regular sales and for about 80-100€ a pair they are an amazing deal. All leather soles that last years and years! And I walk 5+ hours a day in them. Also ridiculously cute, tasteful and comfortable. 😀👌
I second that! Discovered Ancient Greek Sandals last year and I could walk in them 8-10 hours a day over the holidays. Their 'Comfort Soles' are the ones you have to try - they're cushioned and it's the best thing you can get for your feet!!
VISCOSE breaths better than cotton but it can be of a different quality it shouldnt be washed on a high spin and only low temp is good. I have thick viscose quality dresses that are warm yet breathable but miraculously dont crease !
This was an enjoyable topic. I’m liking your de-influencing January videos. You and another TH-camr gave me the inspo to try a “low-buy” over the next couple months. Ofc I prepared for this, as I made a few high quality purchases before the end of last year, and I feel these were wise investments. So the period of low buy over the next couple of months feels satisfying. I always appreciate these sort of ideas of simplifying my own lifestyle. Thanks Katie 😊 Love from across the pond xx 🤗
1:34 Yes yes yes to Chloé - if I had the money, that’s definitely where I would shop. But I actually started this comment to say that you look amazing in this shirt. It’s such an eye-catcher.
A few minutes in… and yep, I sold all my designer stuff (apart from 1 mid range bag, 1 vintage bag that I have retired and keep in storage, only keeping coz they were gifts from my other half, and a few vintage designer silk scarfs that were my late grandmothers…sentimental things but don’t align with me anymore if I am honest) I just prefer high quality & minimal, things that don’t signal status or wealth with a logo, I love style but I don’t enjoy owning things that have been marked up for the label , like you said, I think with age I settled down and realised I don’t need that stuff, my worth is in my character, my value shouldn’t be determined by how much I spent on my bag. I know you get what I’m trying to say , hehe ❤
Totally get where you’re coming from! You start to realise just how ridiculous the mark ups are. Also the logos are just ugly to me these days, I much prefer my outfits without them 🤍
Great video!! That's a solid no buy list to get behind and definitely appreciate the fact that it comes from knowing your own style and what you already own. My No Buy list for beauty and skincare is more of a use up the stash edition, in which I will not be buying anything in a category unless I'm completely out of everything in it.. like facial cleansers, toners, etc...As for Clothing and accessories, I'm doing more of a Low Buy Year in that I'm only allowing myself to replace worn out items or I find good upgrades for outerwear and knitwear in the fall and winter months later on in 2025. And if that's the case, I have to declutter the same amount I bring in... I did a really good overhaul of my wardrobe last year, both the spring and summer and fall and winter... So I'm pretty set on style, I just want to upgrade a few materials and some of my clothing on my wishlist.. Hopefully, I can stick to my guns.. Thank you for sharing and take care...
So nice to find someone the same age with a similar philosophy on fashion and beauty 😊 I always have bare nails these days after wasting so much time painting them in my teens only to smudge them straight after! Loving your recommendations on smaller brands available in the UK - keep them coming! I love the look of The Tiny Big Sister but as it’s a Spanish brand it’s not as accessible here.
I agree to everything on your list except for workout wear and winter shoes…I need more in that category! I’m also trying not to buy any new makeup, skincare, or perfume until I’ve used up more of my stash. My only exception to that is when Lisa Eldridge has new releases.
I am ridiculously careless with my My Coach backs they stand up to everything I put them through. I have one vintage Louis Vuitton bags that I bought at a consignment store. I don't even let it touch a table. But coach seriously is the best durable timeless I can stand a beating❤❤
Your blouse is so pretty! Do you have a link for it? Here in the states mani/pedis have gotten so expensive and are definitely not worth the price! Thanks for your video.🦋
It's old from Sezane, they no longer sell it unfortunately :( yeah it's crazy how much they can be for something that only lasts a few weeks! Thanks so much for watching
Ha, I watched this video while doing my own nails. It’s therapeutic to me!! Love the ideas for the no buys, I also have a list that I’m trying to do month to month!! Smaller goals make it more doable for me.
7:57 aaaw You’re a swimmer too! Pls if you have good recommendations for curves, I’m all ears. Would love to have built-in bras as well. Been disappointed with Decathlon recently. Totally agree on the dedicated leather ateliers, and I add shoes to that. LOL to the manicure point: I had rarely had my nails painted for my entire life, everything chips on me on day 1, but recently I discovered the manucurist green routine (what you put in your divider eheh) and it lasts for a whole wek! I now have 4 colors and obviously not want to add more now 😂 I hope I won’t buy more blushes this year, nor pants…or uncomfortable underwear (is it just me, or has it become so uncomfortable these days?)
I'm a retired health care professional who could not have polished nails. I'm actually allergic to a lot of the polishes. Unfortunately, the chemicals can apparently soak through your nails and cause toxic health problems
I continue get manicure every few months (so only making the cuticles look very neat), but I’ve totally stopped getting gel polish or gel nails done and haven’t gotten them in almost two years. So much money saved, i would love to have beautiful nails at all times, but the up keep is just way too costly for me.
What do you think about Osprey London bags, Katie? I've been eyeing them for a while. They seem top quality, and the prices are reasonable, especially when on sale.
Very good video! I hope You can stick to Your list and this Year is going to be wonderful and sucsessful for You! I have to be more careful also of what i buy. I have way too many clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery (well, I have two daughters and they often for events shop my closet so all this is justified, right? 🤣) and perfumes. In my experience Byredo perfumes don´t last on me. The scent is gone in 1 hour so I prefer Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Initio, and Tiziana Terenzi ones. They really last for hours and hours. I refuse to give up manicures, pedicures, cosmetic procedures, hairdresser. Just love to be pampered 😇 And I promise to travel more, now that my kids are all bigger (smallest 16 already) it is time to visit different places in the world. I have some plans already for march and april 😀
I have way to many beautiful dresses. Too beautiful to wear everyday, more occasion wear and I must stop. In fact I must stop buying and start wearing what I have and selling stuff I don’t use. So I’ve planned a zero budget year for 2025. I can only buy for the money I sell from my own closet, and I need sandals for summer, so that’s my carrot to get the ball rolling :) thanks for inspo! ❤
@@Gubbimadsen Others would say I wear too beautiful dresses as everyday dresses in summer. But sometimes it is just a question of perspective. 😊 That said: I did try on and sell almost all of my occaison wear last year. Putting it on once more really helps. Sometimes you grew out of it, the magic is gone or you have emotionally reached a place to let that piece go. 😅 Sounds dramatic, but I get it! I wish you great success in selling them and not buying new ones!
One more vote for that gorgeous blouse! I'll have to keep a eye out for it secondhand. :) And I'd love to see a review of RSVP Paris bags. Would appreciate your take on them and they're a small French bag-maker!
Me too with the nail polish and manicures! I paint my own nails with a clear nail strengthening polish about once a week, it's not obvious when they chip and it helps them grow and stay more resilient to housework chemicals, dry air and temp changes, etc.
I certainly try to! I only really buy new jewellery from a handful of small brands these days, most are pretty transparent about their sourcing and manufacturing processes.
Thanks for this Katie Louise. I agree 100% with your viscose ban. And to extend that out - I've never had a good experience with any form of rayon. Over 20 years the few rayon/viscose/modal/bamboo etc etc pieces I've bought have not performed well or really been fit for long-term use. e.g., warping out of shape, shrinking, failing to be colour fast, stretching out ridiculously while being worn/used. I also agree about the lack of price-value relationship for a lot of luxury pieces. I don't have the budget to ever buy luxury new, but even pre-loved/pieces may not be worth the price for the materials and workmanship.
Can I just say your hair is gorgeous! You should do a hair care routine video!
Awh thank you! I would if I had a routine 😭😂 honestly I just have thick hair hehe
@@katie_louise You're joking! You're so lucky haha
I don’t wear nail polish either. I’m a pianist so it chips unless I get it done in a salon and that is way too time-consuming. I get that some women consider it self-care but I’d rather have a nap.
Omg same 😂
Yeah and it also damages your nails over time. I prefer to keep it short and well-maintained. Looks super elegant and also its hygienic.
Soooo excited for what you said about no designer brands, focusing on smaller brands instead!! The pieces I love the most (especially accessories) are all from small companies. And as companies get big, quality and ethics always seem to go downhill precipitously (ex Cuyana).
I agree!! It’s always such a lovely feeling supporting a small brand, especially when you can tell they really care about their product and quality 🥰

I love viscose when used in sweaters, but I’m not a fan of the “silk” version.
Excited for the review of the bags from your list. Totally get the midrange brands rather than designer 🎉

Oh thank you!
Silk is a no for me. It’s cruel.
Agree with a lot of this other than perfume. I have never had perfume go bad, my oldest bottle is 16 years old and still smells amazing
Ooh lucky you! Mine definitely started to smell a little funky after a few years. Still nice enough to wear, but not quite the same…

No :(

To be honest, good fragrance doesn’t go bad. It ages with time like a fine wine.
Fair enough! It probably depends on the formulation. I don't even necessarily mean mine spelt bad, just different to when I originally purchased them.
