  • I mentioned Bellcranks (I called them bell gears) briefly in the Rooster Shadow Puppet video, and received some questions about what they were. They're pretty simple little machines with great capabilities.

@@AlexAndOlmsted thanks for your reply... I am big fan of you and Olmsted... Both of you are genius.. Any mechanism which you like... You explain everything so systematically.. I wish you would make videos about mechanisms... I would love to show them to my students... You are so inspiring!

just found you today and I'm so grateful as i needed some inspiration getting a shadow puppet show done for the 3rd of November. i do have a question nothing to do with this video but i have 2 overhead projectors which i love the light that i get from them and the clear shadows. The travel projector bulb is broke and i can't find a replacement and the other one gets very hot and is very heavy .ive also bought LED lights but the shadow is only clear when the shadow puppets are right up against the screen. so iam asking you have you found a light source that you could recommend?

Hi Patricia. Is there a serial number or any other kind of writing on the bulb that is working? We've found replacement bulbs for our overhead projector by searching those IDs on Amazon. I recommend buying a few to have on hand. Those bulbs get pretty hot generally, but if your's is getting super hot you may want to make sure the fan is running when the machine is on and that it's dust free.
The trick to LEDs for shadows is to make sure you're using a light with a single, super bright, LED. These are usually little yellow squares as opposed to rounded bulbs. I'd recommend getting something in the 200+ Lumens range. If it has a focus thing on the front you can either pop it off or make sure it's set to a wide flood beam rather than spot light.
Hope this helps, and break a rod with the show!

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure how to answer your question. This mechanism is called a Bellcrank. Are you referring to something else?

@@alanhoggard4554 Ah! Yeah, I'd say it was mechanical engineering. A bellcrank isn't technically one of the "Simple Machines" but it's not too far off.

I don't think I understand your request. Ascending chapters in relation to what? The tutorial playlist is organised chronologically by when we created the videos.
