- 2020 is almost over, and 2021 is a fresh start so why bring all these unnecessary clothes that I never wear? ALSO since I'm moving in January I need to declutter and go through everything I own so I just take what I need and love.

I feel like you also have to keep in mind we haven’t gone anywhere in almost a year 😂 so it’s ok to keep something even if you haven’t worn it lately (unless it doesn’t fit lol) because no one has worn anything lately lmao

That's what I did with my closet clean out too. Of course I haven't worn some of my fancy clothes this year because literally everything I would usually go to was canceled. Doesn't mean I should get rid of it.

Honestly this year I haven't had a place to wear 90% of my clothes because: lockdown. So I started to dress over nicely inside the house or to do mediocre casual tasks like going to pharmacy, getting groceries, getting food, walking my dog. And boom! Now I am using all of the clothes I like for the opportunities I realistically have. Adaptability 10/10
😂 I just wear pajamas 24/7 now
I do this too. It’s so much fun and it just makes sense. Why wouldn’t you always want to look and feel your best even in your house?!
For sure keep the sweatshirt you wear while sick and the camping one.

Me too. Or rather I do it a couple of times a year because I feel like I don't want to edit my wardrobe when I haven't been wearing half my clothes because of the season.

I am a "just in case" person to my core. Furniture? Yep. I held onto a random small bookcase for months at a time, would find a use for it, then it would go back in the garage and then it would circulate again. Clothes are the same. I either upcycle or I just hold onto them because just in case. When we moved to Florida, everyone said to get rid of my sweater collection, I won't need them, well first, I'm not staying for the rest of forever and you bet any time it gets under 60, I'm wearing one. I also will regret things, months even years later if I donate them because I'm like. "oh man, this would have been cute," But I'm really proud of you and I am very excited for you and this next chapter for you! Also your hair looks really good! I love the color.
PS keep all the things that make you happy, thats all that matters.
YES I experience this same thing so much. I finally stopped getting rid of anything that I like AT ALL because I always regret getting rid of it!! Especially now that I have my fit/what styles work for me. I don’t get rid of anything that a) looks good on me or b)I just love, even if it isn’t the most “flattering”
it' definitely has been tempting for me too to get rid of all my mismatched hangers to get new prettier ones that are all the same. but instead I tried just grouping them by color, material or type and it definitely made the whole thing look way more cohesive.
I’m in lockdown here and have been planning a clear out now I have the time. So happy this video is up
Weird: I watched your "I'll never be a minimalist" video WHILE I DID A CLOSET CLEAN OUT... and now you post this 🤣 I've been doing the closet clean out thing for years now and one thing I've found helpful is: take anything you're unsure of and put it somewhere else you don't see everyday. You often find that after time away from it you're fine to move it on.. Or you realise you still love it and bring it back into your wardrobe. People make a big drama about getting rid of stuff but there's no point moving something on to rebuy something similar in 3 months time 🤣
Also, Pablo's little foot sticking up while he slept was almost too cute 😭
Omg I do this exact thing too, it really helps and puts into perspective if you use something or need it. I call it declutter limbo l, I give items in limbo a few weeks and if I don't use or reach for it...I say goodbye.

Honestly recommend the Konmari method of pulling everything out in a pile and feeling if you like it/need it/ fit in it. Leaving them in the rack and just scrolling doesn't really give you a realistic look of your stuff, and having to touch every single one individually will help you make better decisions.
Also, being tough on yourself helps bc if you reaaaaally need something, then you can always get that item later. Live in the moment with this, recycle your stuff and live a more wholesome life with stuff you actually wear throughout the year :)

A little thing I tell myself when im purging items is if I have any second guesses or doubt when I decide to keep an item, it means I shouldn't keep it. I know it doesn't work for everyone and it's not perfect, but it gets the job done haha

I love the idea of shedding the old when you move into a new space! Especially because it doesn’t focus on being minimal and getting rid of everything it’s more about making space for the things that speak to you

I don’t think she has more than most people. Her closet is tiny so it looks like a lot. It’s mostly cheap stuff she’s bought at goodwill. And it’s obvious that she hangs on to things for years and years. I have a little less because I hate having clothes in my closet that aren’t my style or that I don’t like so I’m going through and giving stuff away pretty often. Most of my friends and family (females) have a similar amount of clothes to Sarah. Doesn’t seem too unusual to me.

Some of these pieces are such a throwback! I’ve said it before but I’ve watched since I was a freshman in high school and I graduate with my undergrad degree this spring :) thank you for posting this because this is the motivation I need to decluttering my wardrobe before I move to a new city! I’ve also taken to heart your comments about waiting for clothes to fit at some point and it’s helped me a LOT
I still have my Hellraisers! They were the "alternative" piece of clothing I ever bought so they hold a lot of sentimental value to me lol

Omg love all the horror movie shirts especially the Midsommer one! I have a goosebumps one that I'm obsessed with and want to expand and get more creepy tees lol. Not too many people I meet enjoy horror so its refreshing to find youtubers who do!
Omg i had a pair of those hellrisers and the spikes were sharp and my ankles would always have scrapes on them from wearing them but i wore them out!! 😔

I moved in March of this year. Might have to move again next March 'cause my landlord wants to sell the place (yay for eviction notices on Xmas). I did this before I moved this year. Now I'm wondering if I should do it again.

So satisfying! This has inspired me to have a clear out of my own disaster of a wardrobe. With your mum's shirt, since you're worried about its fragility could you perhaps frame it? And add some other themed items or even on it's own with a cool spacey background? Would look nice on a wall in your new place I'm sure :)

I'm so very hopeful that my husband and I will be able to move soon. I need to clean out my closet in preparation, too!
But my struggle is that my husband never has the spoons to declutter/is a huge sentimental packrat. He has worn out shorts from when we met (13, now 27) and he doesn't wanna get rid of ANYTHINNNNG. Those shorts are about 8-9 sizes too small. 😭😭

if you’ve had those DMs for 8 years then it’s indicative that you don’t really wear them and gravitate towards them because they’d look a lot more worse for wear. I’m sure someone would love to find some beautiful Docs in a thrift store.
Excellent point 😊 I think we humans persevere where we should maybe just move things on. I've got closet items that I've tried to make work and ultimately realised, it's just not happening 🤣 Especially if you spent a bit of money on it, or it's an expensive brand or whatever 😒

I have different type of hangers but I organise them that way that I put the same/similar ones next to each other e.g. similar colour, similar type such as plastic, metal, thin and thicker hangers, so it looks a lot more cohesive wardrobe and it actually doesn't bother me this way to have different type of hangers and not put them to waste just because you should have all the same hangers

You have a lot of really cute clothes…I love your ten year old shirt, I wish that would be something I would find..the black slip on shoes with the buckle were really cute too…how were you able to decide what to keep and what to get rid of?
I am moving at the end of January and I am feeling VERY inspired and a little nervous 🤣
A couple ideas if you haven’t gotten rid of the clothes you don’t want yet: Keep the bottom part of the TCM shirt and cut out the movie title to make a patch for your denim jackets! Also, that camping sweater in your maybe pile, cut out an image you like from a shirt you’re getting rid of and sew it onto the sweater like a back patch so you can love it even more! Or you can put a little patch on the front of it maybe even the TCM one. Just some inspo for you. These are things I do to my clothes. I almost never get rid of graphic tees because I make patches out of all of them.
