As soon as we as a people start loving each other again meaning all of our women and men loving each other and want to be in relationships we’ll have R&B back. You can’t have R&B without love

@@C-Lyfe85 Record labels were only concern with making money so they follow the money and what is trending and what appeals to the consumer. Being in love was deemed corny in our culture and communities to this newer generation of music listeners and consumers. We turned our back on R&B bcuz it seems passé and weak especially to men and now rap has took over as the dominant genre in our communities and now it is destructive demonic rap crap that has infiltrated our youth’s minds. Our young women listen to that demonic trash and want to bend over classless and head to a stripper pole. We have lost our dignity and class and as a result being in love, getting married and raising a family is passé and out dated. Hopefully our men and women will love each other again and then R&B will make a comeback. Can’t even relate to R&B if you feel no love

Also, albums don’t have to be narrative-driven to be good. Chris Brown picking the best of his recording sessions shouldn’t be a critique of his work, because there’s quality throughout. Michael Jackson never made an album that told a story and no one critiques him because of it. A collection of songs that work together can be just as good as a story.
And Chris Brown literally has a solo hit in Under the Influence right now as I type this. There’s also Fine China, Back to Sleep, Liquor, Privacy, Undecided and more that have had commercial success without features.

@@user-ew6el2xt7r Just as many people listen to Chris Brown’s albums as they did Trilogy so I’m not sure what your point is there. And IMO, if you have to pair the music with a video in order for the story to be told…the album itself isn’t a story. There’s no Michael Jackson album anyone could listen to (without watching the videos) and say “this body of work tells a story about ______.” I also never said anything about fillers for Chris or Michael so idk wym by “stop the cap” cause I didn’t lie once in what I said.

Mentorship is definitely missing. And you’d think that might help people develop their own style since they are kind of force to. But there is a lot of copycat and aversion to risk.

I would say the lack of quality writers are hurting most of the genres. Now people are throwing all their songs out there to see what sticks. This has been happening for awhile. A few years after Apple music came out, there was a story that said that 80% of the material on that platform had zero listens. There are also no gatekeepers meaning that nobody went through that 80% to see if there was any good music in it.
If one wants to bring back the genres, they are going to have to bring back the gatekeepers, promoters and quality song writers. MTV was the last gatekeeper and look at all the stars it produced.

The other thing is that many of us ARE creative, talking about love, and it sounds great, but it is still a numbers game, and honestly it's a popularity contest. We have to push/work through all of that while not be signed to a major label that could potentially control what we talk about in our music. It's a lot of noise we have to work through when your favorite artist or the latest artist isn't doing what you wish they would do.

You contradicted yourself in this video. At one point you say R&B is struggling because people have no vocal training or mentors to look up to, then later name Brent as an example of someone carrying the genre. Brent Faiyaz is a clear example of an artist that could benefit from vocal training. His voice is smooth, sure, but those notes are either flat or sharp and there’s no strength in his vocals at all.
Then you name Silk Sonic as another front runner because they make nostalgic music. But earlier in the video you say the new generation is lost because they rely too much on sampling. Do you think Prince would enjoy Silk Sonic or would he find it to be theft?

@@norwoodsstokes3883 never said that. My point is that samples get vilified for being too reminiscent of past music yet Silk Sonic gets put on a pedestal with their nostalgic music even though it’s really just a repackaging of past music. It’s great they play their music but to champion them for reaching back to the past while bashing sample use just doesn’t add up to me.

I don’t think R&B is “dead,” but in general, “effort” & “creativity” is gone in [most] music today. Sure, we had songs like “Between The Sheets” by the Isley Brothers & “Rock The Boat” by Aaliyah that were both talking about sex, but it was done in a tasteful manner. Today, they just go STRAIGHT to what they want to convey (like with “Side N*gga” by Chris Brown or “When We” by Tank). Nothing’s necessarily “new” under the sun, but we’ll be better off if the creativity and effort make a return, and sooner rather than later.

What!? Beyoncé and Chris Brown r not r&b. They have pop music. Chris Brown is compared to who Michael Jackson who definitely didn’t make r&b music he made pop. People consider any form of singing to be r&b. R&b was maxwell, luther, the commodores, loose ends, D’Angelo. R&b started to fall off in the 2000s when the tempo sped up. R&b is slow and smooth. That shit is completely gone

The fact is: The industry has intoxicated the r&b artists considered good who are now superstars, because of the streaming platforms. Beyonce is also included in this, as much as the lemonade album is good, she is also part of this generation that does everything for money. Many artists can't keep up because record companies use their image as a product.CB is another who is also lost in what he does, despite all his problems, the media boycotts his albums and his fans are so hungry for new music that he ends up getting sick and doesn't know how to make an album with real emotions anymore.
