- This is one of the first songs that John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote together -- possibly as early as 1957. Whilst it might be considered an early attempt at a rock 'n' roll song, I think there's more than a touch of skiffle in there too -- lots of skiffle songs had train themes like this one.
The Beatles recorded a version of ‘One After 909’ in 1963, but weren't happy with this rendition at that time. They released a different version in 1969 on their ‘Let It Be’ Album. You can see The Beatles performing it live in the recently released Peter Jackson ‘Get Back’ documentary films. This is the version on which I’ve based my acoustic guitar rendition. The Beatles’ 1963 version was released on the 1995 ‘Anthology 1’ compilation.

Hi Jez - sounding great on one after 909!
Thanks very much Luke! Been messing about with this song since I watched the new Peter Jackson 'Get Back' Beatles documentary films.
@@JezsAcousticGuitarSongbook We've been watching the new "get back" series too - finished 2 of 3 episodes. Maybe a little slow paced at times, but just fascinating - seeing how they made their music, recorded live (full band playing), how much they smoked, their relationships between the band members!
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fascinating stuff. It changed my impression of each band member a little. I know the original 'Let It Be' film really well, and it was good to see that the fairly negative impression that earlier film gave of some band member relationships at that time wasn't truly accurate. As for the smoking, I was more surprised by the amount of tea and toast they consumed! They seemed like four very ordinary (yet talented) blokes. I love it that they spent so much time jamming old songs and just messing about.
Sounds great Jez! A quick lesson of this one at some point would be much appreciated
Thanks very much David! I might just do that. 😊
