This Music gives me chills... Bartok almost always does that to me. The first "Improvisation" is a brilliant example of a compositional technique called "non-functional harmony," aka "non-functional traditional structures," and for that reason it's even more unsettlingly sensual than the other seven pieces... ...because the listener is hearing familiar-sounding chords, perfectly voice-led, but in an unexpected succession. (Whenever a Poster has the gracious courtesy to actually provide us with the score of any piece, we should always express our appreciation: MANY THANKS!)
