About the mezzo mix without sugar. Usually, you can tell by the color of the lid. If it’s a solid color, red for coke or orange for Fanta, etc, it’s the normal kind but silver, black, or ochre is usually the one with no or reduced sugar. It’s the same with Pepsi or no name brands too

Also, the leading "k" in "Knoppers" is always pronounced in German.
Leading letters are almost always pronounced. Especially K and G. Such as in Knoppers, der Knopf (button), der Gnom (Gnome), der Knall (the bang as in loud sound), etc. Afaik there are no silent starting letters in German. Btw: I have a question for native English speakers: how do you differentiate between an agnostic person and a gnostic person when you use the primary pronoun a? Just out of interest.
Thank you both so much! That is VERY helpful! We both really want to dive into learning the language while we are here so these are great tips! We do pretty well with repetition but definitely haven’t figured out those sounds when we read them so that will go a long way! As for the agnostic and the a gnostic, I hope we are understanding the question correctly so if we’re not feel free to let us know…it really just has to do with a slight difference in the sound of the letter “a” and a subtle break between the two words. In “agnostic” the a almost sounds like “aiy” or “ai”, where just the word “a” is closer to an “ayee”. We do lots of silly things with our words but hopefully that helps 🤗
Also you have to speak out the Umlauts. It is not, like you think in the US, that these two dots are just for pronounciation or as an accent. It is really important to see them as own letters because there could be absolutely different words with and without the two dots e.g. Bar = Bar Bär = Bear *Ä* is pronounced like the a in _cat_ *Ö* is pronounced like the o in _work_ *Ü* will be much more harder for you to learn, i think you dont have a word in the US that sounds familiar to this letter.

If you like peanut flavor, then the Lorenz Erdnuss Flocken might be something for you. Salty peanut flavored snacks. They're usually with the chips in the supermarket Haribo is a German company. That's why there are so many of these gummy things here. Haribo means Ha = Hans, ri = Riegel , bo = Bonn. So the name of the company founder was Hans Riegel and the company is based in Bonn.
Leibniz is a company in Hannover in north-west Germany. I always think their products are at least 90% butter cookie based. (for example their "Pick Up!" bars which are 2 butter cookies and some different kinds of chocolate in between.
Really like seeing you try different things. Love the look you got at the end when you said healthy snacks. Which they are better since they are not made of potatoes.
Haha yes definitely a health food! Lol. And you’re right! They actually are healthier and so yummy! Those were a big hit here! Loving sharing the adventure with everyone and seeing familiar friends in the comments 🤗
When it comes to crisps and chips and such stuff, Funny Frisch is the gold standard. But beware, as you have seen, it has a high addiction potential. Thry the Kartoffel Chips Ungarisch type, thats the unbeaten classic.
As kids we went to the bakery for a Brötchen with a Superdickmann's in between, you smash it in the bun and have a marshmallow sandwich. ^^ But then ofc the large ones, so one fits perfectly in a Brötchen (white ones). Give it a try...it should remind you of smores, but not grilled. ^^
@@CompassChronicleTravels I remember that we took them as a desert, too. Put them for a minute into the microwave and they will rise a lot in volume. They taste great with eggnog or Amaretto (or fruit or vanilla sauce)
the white stuff is eggwhite and sugar ... very soft at first, but turning in harder marshmallows over time if you forgot them in some drawer. but usually they never last long and are eaten quickly on the first 1-2 days and then that doesn't happen.
Casey, I drink this mix only but not mezzo mix. The right mix is 2/3 Fanta or similar with 1/3 Coca Cola. To avoid so much sugar, I prefer zero and mainly cold. For me its refresing and usual drink. You may come accross different naming for this drink. In Bavaria its called Spezie, in the the Ruhrpott(the industrial area between Dortmund and Duisburg) its called Kalter Kaffee. You may should try once Apfelschorle. Which is aple juice mixed with springling water. Lots of people like it as refreshment. Back years kids used to eat such Dickmanns(two when its small once) filled in a bun, a fresh Brötchen. There are so many other snacks and sweets around. Just try to find your favourites.
Milka is Swiss, not German. Actually American now (Mondelez International),especially the Milka Oreo (since Oreo is American) but originally Swiss. Never German. Also, he's not crazy. It took me years to discover I like coffee, but only cold. Sort of how I like my 'hot chocolate' cold, not hot. Sidenote, we know 'weinig' in Dutch, but 'weiniger' is 'minder' hier. 21:15 and we have that in the Netherlands as well, but from a different brand.

I like the Knoppers u eat from the fridge. Out of the fridge for my opinion it is to soft for me. 16:00 After WWII there was difficult to get ressources for producing Coca cola, so in 1940 the German chemistry invented Fanta for the Coca Cola Company as an replacement product for Coca Cola, From 1942 till 1949 Coca cola in Germany only Produces Fanta.
Knoppers out of the fridge!?!? 😱😱😱. Oh, we are interested in that!! haha. And that is so crazy about the Fanta! There is literally history everywhere here. So cool!
Hi guys, little late to the party but I enjoyed your vibe and wanted to give you a few tips for snacks, if you don't mind. First off I get your "that's too sweet for me" sentiment, over the last 15 years or so, many chocolate snacks, with "new" flavors or "improved" flavors, have gotten much sweeter in Germany. Not a fan either. I would recommend the Grocery store "ALDI" and it's own brand Choceur. The White Crisp, Kaffee-Sahne, Nussknacker or the Schoko Milch Riegel. For Chips or Crisps(?), since you are in Köln and you mentioned in another video you wanted to take some trips, do yourself a BIG favor and take a trip to the Netherlands with your car and find a supermarket like AlbertHijn or Jumbo (the ones I know in Zuid-Limburg) and buy some Lays chips. Germany can't compete with those flavors imho, regardless wich brand you buy here. If you don't want to do that for content because you want to only do "German Culture", then just do it for your own satisfaction, trust me. There are alot more snacks I could recommend for a trip to the Netherlands, but I have to say that the German chocolate is still much better. Cookies and snacks that go with a Coffee-table though... ooh my, the Dutch go crazy with that stuff. Last but not least "Pindakaas", the Dutch Peanutbutter, you're welcome. :-)
About sweets here is everything less sweet than in the US . For chips my family prefers chili. But you had Lentil chips, no potato chips. Heather you seem to be a coffeelady like I am 😅.
We both love that things are less sweet! The sugar content of things is way too crazy in the states lol. I don’t think we have ever tried Chili chips so we will have to look for that too. And haha-GUILTY. I am definitely a coffee lady as well! ☕️ Pröst!
I am a little bit surprised that no one mentioned "prinzen doppel kekse" here. Those are 2 round cookies with chocolate in the middle. Packaged in a cylindrical package with an prince on it. Definitely my personal favorite cookie
Hi there 😘 I’m not a sweet guy, but the paprika chips and sour cream and onion “more potatoey” chips seem right up my alley! I’m curious about the German Fanta now! Do they have peach?! Like you can’t find that ANYWHERE here, and it’s my ALL TIME favorite soda! Well… you can find it at like fast food “build your own” soda machines, occasionally. Great video! Love seeing keeping up with y’all thriving and exploring! Cheers ❤
Hey friend!! 👋🏼 The chips are legit SO good. If we end up coming back to the states I’m going to miss the food here in general. It’s next level! I haven’t seen peach Fanta-yet. But we have heard there are a LOT of flavors of it here! If I find some I will definitely let you know and we will have to taste test it in a video. That’s the worst when you fall in love with something and can’t find it anymore 🤦🏼♀️ So glad to see you in our comments! 💕Definitely enjoying the journey so far!
I wonder if you have figured out how to open the Ritter Sport chocolate!? It has an easy-to-open technic ... you just have to fold (!) the package once and are ready to go! (german engineering, you know *rofl).
10-15 years ago, Coca Cola made a drink called Black Orange. was a mix between coca cola and fanta orange. agree with you about no sugar. probably sweeteners that have a taste I don't like.
You can eat the "Dickmanns", as you call them, very good on a Brötchen. Just cut it open, put one in and crush it flat. Also there are very good ones of these in Switzerland, but then it's from a chocolate shop and more expensive.... They are also referred to by many names, most of which are not used anymore, because they are slightly rassist...
I think the new official name is something like "Schaumküsse" which can be translated as "cream kiss". Most names before that had something to do with names for black people.
yum! We will definitely try those sandwiches. Interesting that they have a version in Switzerland too! Going to make note of the new name...had no idea about that word. VERY glad to have been told that here so we can be conscious of that, so thank you!
It the same with the Schnitzel nowadays called Puzta-Schnitzel or Schnitzel Balkan Art... Some people would like to be kissed by a black person...😂😂😂 Some renamings are only ridiculous...
"Ei" is a sound like the y in my, the sound you make comes from an "ie". While I'm at it, "ä" is very close to the ea in bear. Many of the german sounds that english speakers have problems with are well known in english, but for some reason english speakers mangle them.
I have no idea, why they are unknown in the US, but you'll probably like "Erdnuss-Locken" aka "Erdnuss-Flips". Those are like salty peanut flavored Cheetos.
Paulaner Spezi is the best coke-fanta mix. Or just buy two bottles and mix it yourselves. That way you can mix as you like it. Some like more Coke, some like more Fanta, some do 50/50... Self mixed is the best btw.
You also have to be aware: Spezi is not the same as Mezzo Mix Mezzo Mix is Cola + orange juice (according to their own description) Spezi is Cola + Fanta This means, that Mezzo Mix typically has a more pronounced orange flavor.
Haha yes! We noticed after filming that it probably meant Lentil. You’re right though, they were very good! So far we haven’t met anything Paprika that we haven’t liked 😆…well, except for those puffs haha
knusper = crispy weniger fett = less oil or fat 15:16 btw u ate lens chips and u like it thats good tho , i never tried lens chips before but seems vegan option ? 8:50 cherry (blue) raspberry (pink) idk but i dont really like oreo . 22:04 its nut chewy cuz its not marshmellow, its kinda a whipped cream that why I think in Germany marshmello is not that common in sweets. typical for us is We have a lot of milk or cream . The only thing I ever tried in Germany with marshmello was, a small cake with chocolate inside and biscuit and marshmello like a kind of sandwitch. and that was a Turkish product not a German one but I love it.

Other European cuisine - Paella (Spain), Fish and Chips and Bangers and Mash (England), German and French Pastries. German Cheesecake and Kirschetorte. German Brandy: Asbach-Uralt from Rudesheim, great in Rudesheimer-Kaffe (coffee).
I can really recommend RitterSport Kakaoklasse 74% with peruvian cocoa beans, absoloutly amazing and Nussklasse is awsome as well while not as high quality as Kakaoklasse which only has 3 ingrediance (well one is with milk chocolate so 4 ingrediance). But guess they need more ingrediance for Nussklasse to stabalize the nutoil. Milka actually is completly amaricanized garbage and has little to do with chocolate.
oooo wow!! The chocolate lovers in us are definitely adding those to our "try" list!! Had no idea the Milka was considered more americanized like a Hershey's...very interesting. Will look for those other two! Sounds yummy!
@@CompassChronicleTravels It´s no suprise Milka has fallen so low in quality, it´s owned by Kraft Foods for a long time and they´re just fakeing the fealing of high quality chocolate melting by using lots of fats and to me that´s what it tastes like: sugared fat with hints of cocoa just like coke tastes like sugared water to me. The RitterSport 61% Nicaragua milk chocolate wasn´t as good, a little harsh in the bitterness despite the additional milk, but Nicaragua beans aren´t known for very high quality, but the other ones are amazing. I see you are trying to pronounce German words, which I think is wonderful and for the most part you are on point, but if you don't mind I have a little tip for you to make it even easier. If you see "ei" you pronounce it like the English "i" "ie" would be pronounced like the English "e" a "k" is never silent in German, so "Knoppers" would be pronounced with the "k" instead of "noppers". Also "z" is usually pronounced like "ts", so a bit harder than the American pronunciation that sounds more like "s". I hope you didn't mind, but I have the feeling you are actually having fun learning German, so maybe this will make it a bit easier for you. Normally chips are made from potato, you bought "Linsen-Chips" which is made from lentils 😊, that is why it tastes different, but I don't hate them.

Haribo is a German company.

Leibniz you should get the original Butter Keks
Leibniz has many products its realy good. Also Ritter -Sport chocolate.
Yes! Have lovedddd everything we have tried from Leibniz!
Imho best Paprika Chips are of the brand Chio Chips. For my taste way better than Funny frisch ungarisch!
Those "Erdnuss Locken" are actually made out of corn with added peanut flavour ...
As kids we went to the bakery for a Brötchen with a Superdickmann's in between, you smash it in the bun and have a marshmallow sandwich. ^^
But then ofc the large ones, so one fits perfectly in a Brötchen (white ones).
Give it a try...it should remind you of smores, but not grilled. ^^
Oooo now that we can get on board with! That sounds like a fun try in a video! 🙌🏼😋
Give Luna and Nova snacks! They deserve a treat!
Hahaha yes! German Kitty Snacks video! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Milka is a Swiss brand, but mainly produced in Lörrach/Germany since 1902...🤔

☕️ Pröst!
@@CompassChronicleTravels On the chips I mentioned it says pepperoni and has a chili on it.
@@CompassChronicleTravels try Chio Chips Paprika too, in my opinion they are best tasty chips. Simply lecker...😅
I am a little bit surprised that no one mentioned "prinzen doppel kekse" here.
Those are 2 round cookies with chocolate in the middle. Packaged in a cylindrical package with an prince on it.
Definitely my personal favorite cookie
Hi there 😘
I’m not a sweet guy, but the paprika chips and sour cream and onion “more potatoey” chips seem right up my alley!
The chips are legit SO good. If we end up coming back to the states I’m going to miss the food here in general. It’s next level!
I haven’t seen peach Fanta-yet. But we have heard there are a LOT of flavors of it here! If I find some I will definitely let you know and we will have to taste test it in a video. That’s the worst when you fall in love with something and can’t find it anymore 🤦🏼♀️
So glad to see you in our comments! 💕Definitely enjoying the journey so far!
I wonder if you have figured out how to open the Ritter Sport chocolate!? It has an easy-to-open technic ... you just have to fold (!) the package once and are ready to go! (german engineering, you know *rofl).
Ahh! Haha no we haven’t I don’t believe but we have seen that on other things now. GENIUS!
Consider Hazlenuts the Germna Peanuts. Germans love them in candy. And Nutella, which is made of it, is kind of the German Peanutbutter.
Yes! Hazelnuts seem to be much bigger here! We will have to try them in more dishes and candies for sure!
If you want a sort of cookie with coffee (maybe even dip it in the coffee) try Kemm'sche Kuchen... if you can get some
Ooo thank you! We will definitely go on the hunt for these! 🤩
10-15 years ago, Coca Cola made a drink called Black Orange. was a mix between coca cola and fanta orange. agree with you about no sugar. probably sweeteners that have a taste I don't like.
Hey, if you like chocolate with coffee and just a bit white chocolate, you should try 'mercy petits - Kaffee Sahne'. 😎
Awesome! Thank you! I definitely will look for those…coffee and chocolate is the best 👌🏼
oh yes :D
Those are like salty peanut flavored Cheetos.
right!! Based on how they sound, it seems like those would be popular with Americans. We are excited to try those!
Yes, those are good. We like to dip them in Frischkäse mit Kräuter (cream cheese with herbs).
Paulaner Spezi is the best coke-fanta mix.
Or just buy two bottles and mix it yourselves. That way you can mix as you like it.
Some like more Coke, some like more Fanta, some do 50/50...
Self mixed is the best btw.
We will definitely give that a try! That makes total sense! 💕
You also have to be aware: Spezi is not the same as Mezzo Mix
Mezzo Mix is Cola + orange juice (according to their own description)
Spezi is Cola + Fanta
This means, that Mezzo Mix typically has a more pronounced orange flavor.
I think what you didn't mention about the chips is that those aren't potato chips but lentils chips :) (they are good though!)
Haha yes! We noticed after filming that it probably meant Lentil. You’re right though, they were very good! So far we haven’t met anything Paprika that we haven’t liked 😆…well, except for those puffs haha
The cat! 😍
As a German i have to admit the dutch fanta is waaay better than ours. It tastes more fruity.
If you like the paprika flavour try Pom sticks (paprika) and Zirkusräder (paprika) from Kellys!

I think in Germany marshmello is not that common in sweets. typical for us is We have a lot of milk or cream .
The only thing I ever tried in Germany with marshmello was, a small cake with chocolate inside and biscuit and marshmello like a kind of sandwitch. and that was a Turkish product not a German one but I love it.

it's better you take branded products like everything else before. Take Lindt chocolate, there is a great selection of chocolates, or Lambertz biscuits, because there are mixed packs, there is something for every taste. to drink Vita Malz that is very sweet but also healthy. since it is built like beer. super dickmans we eat the larger ones squeezed together on a bun then it's not as sweet anymore. Why do you touch your snacks before eating?
And Nussklasse with honey Salt almonds (Honig-Salz-Mandel) are a bit sweater, but honey-salt is a real hit.

Nobody knows linsen Chips in germany, never seen them
I see you are trying to pronounce German words, which I think is wonderful and for the most part you are on point, but if you don't mind I have a little tip for you to make it even easier.
If you see "ei" you pronounce it like the English "i"
"ie" would be pronounced like the English "e"
a "k" is never silent in German, so "Knoppers" would be pronounced with the "k" instead of "noppers".
What you should definitely try and what is typical german is Nutella and Apfel Schorle.Especially in summer when it is really hot, you will love Apfel Schorle.Btw;the German ei is pronounced as in English i.
Yes, but mix it yourself and preferably take naturally cloudy apple juice, I think.
That sounds delicious so we will definitely be on the lookout. Thank you both! And also on the pronunciations. We love the help as we are trying to learn the language! 🙌🏼
