What do you do when your piano roll doesn't have a grid like yours does? I opened my piano roll, and it's just... completely black. Do you know any way that I could fix this?
Good question. If its just a single sound, in .wav or .mp3, you can use Audio File processor from the 'Instrument Plugins' tab on the left (drag and drop it into the song editor). Then in Audio File Processor - General Settings, there is a little folder icon to the middle left, that will let you choose the .wav or .mp3 file on your computer. This sound can now be used in the Piano Roll.
TJ i've got a question- So, when trying to use instruments in the piano roll for example, a violin, which has a predefined length, if i use an A on the 2nd octave, the note is sustained for MUCH longer versus a higher octave. I have tried looping the audio but this results in an abrubt end to the sound which is unpleasant to hear. Is there a way to change the pitch of a note without increasing or decreasing the speed?

the difficulty in setting up duplicate synced bars is by far my worst annoyance with LMMS. in any other DAW or Tracker i can just push Ctrl+D and not only it sets up the same pattern in the next bar, but any edits made to the first are propagated to all duplicates. are there any solutions for that?
The length of the note is also influenced by the nature of the sound produced by the instrument. Some instruments are not capable of producing long sustained notes. In real life for example, a xylophone or kick drum produces a short sound, whereas a Violin, or saxophone etc can play longer notes. This property can be easily adjusted for synthesized sounds, by adjusting the envelope characteristics of the instrument plugin (it has attack, hold, decay sustain, and release). You can find these properties if you click on the instrument plugin in the playlist or beat/baseline editor. Though to really get this you may need to search for some tutorials on sound synthesis or google ADSR (Attack decay,sustain, release). Hope this helps.
The piano roll will open even if there is no instrument loaded, but you won't be able to input notes. You need to drag and drop an instrument from the left side tool bar first.

@@TJFREE no i use haedphones and when i play the bass alone it's fine when i play it with the beat it's distorted sorry i repeat myself but just want to be very clear on my problem
Press F9 (FX-Mixer) and and lower the master volume until the jumping bars in there are no longer red or orange but green or until its no longer distorted.
@@TJFREE At 2:30, you're clicking on some tracks to associate the piano roll with. And then, when you go back to the piano roll, you can play some music. But when I do it, it still says "Please open a pattern by double-clicking on it!"
@@louisfrancois8366 I see. The beat&bassline editor has a drop at the top that should show the name, like 'Beat/Bassline 0'. To the right of that is an icon to 'Add Beat/Bassline'. Click that, and it should create another beat and add a new track in the song editor. Make a beat and then left click on a square in the song-editor on that new beat/bassline track. If this doesn't work, maybe open one of the demo songs, and see if you are able to make changes to an existing beat and song. Hope that helps.

Just want to use a keyboard that sounds like a keyboard/piano, there's one in instruments but notes don't hold for longer than 1 second......honestly I saw piano roll and expected a piano not optimus prime being constipated at different notes.......spent ages trying to figure out if its a something you click for it to be a normal "piano" but nope it doesn't exist fml
Totally confusing!!! you need to work out in your head what you are going to do, then make your tutorial. You are playing about all the time and its difficult to follow. ok

I don't know man, it was very easy to keep up with for me. Maybe the interface is confusing you? That would be reasonable if you haven't spent too much time with LMMS on your own yet, at least it was for me when I started out. Good luck!
I have heard from several people that LMMS is aggressive to newcomers, but it seems so good and your tutorials only keep helping!

9:00 just press CTRL while clicking to make a copy and drag it to the spot you want.

Rewatch that part of the video. Just make sure you have a bar selected in the Song Editor for that instrument.

Good question. You can export directly to MP3. File > Export > Then change the drop down by Files of Type to *.mp3
