    Great place to live, was there in the late 80's. Changed a little around the ferry terminal.

    Great video , i was also served by a Nepalese worker in Hong Kong. I was also in Hong Kong before 1997 and have just returned in may of this year . It's definitely changed over the years . Still a very special destination .

      Thanks, my aim is to do that, I try to keep out of the films and show the place, but with a little 'personal' touch.

    I watched this video before coming to look at apartments in DB and I have ended up living here now. Although not the real HK, its a really nice place to live with a dog and a baby, and worth putting up with a longer daily commute 'back to reality' for work ;-) Thanks for helping with my house hunting! Oh, and I love Uncle Russ as well!

      I just re-watched this, now that we are living in NZ. Great memories of living in DB and HK. I enjoy getting my HK hit by watching your HK vlogs. Keep it up!

      DB is indeed inhabited largely, but not entirely, by a floating population of expats but is still a fundamental slice of the "real" Hong Kong, which remains a diverse, multicultural city with strong International links. There are several other, different slices of Hong Kong

    I went there for a game of tennis at the Residents Club with my buddies the first time in 1990 and I ended up living there for some years. I even joined the boat club where I had a couple of catamarans (you can see them in the video). Discovery Bay is a fun and relaxing place to live. 30 years have gone by......

      Thanks, I did some sailing in Hong Kong when I first came, (1974) The army had a sailing school out near Castle Peak! Also in about ‘76 was invited to teach canoeing to army kids on Pui O. Never forget that, a typhoon truck and we were camping! Did get to surf some huge waves, and managed to stay out all night! I have a couple of films yachting out from Chatham Marina. th-cam.com/video/IIcrKLG7HYc/w-d-xo.html
      Also last year sailed up the Thames to St Katherine’s dock.

    I made several visits to HK between '03 and '05. I have some very fond memories of the place as it's where I met my wife. She lived in Discovery Bay. Now we live in Discovery Bay, California...which is 'ok', but it doesn't compare to Discovery Bay, Hong Kong, which is 100x nicer. I feel sad for the people there now, after what Chinese rule is doing to them. If there should be a move towards independence, I hope the nations of the world supports them.

      Similar situation. I had to leave due to more mainland pressure -> increased rents -> reduced job opportunities. Now I'm in Canada. I miss this place, I can't stand the cold weather

      It looks like a paradise. How much is the rent? Is grocery more expensive than Kowloon?

    • @micksurman6627
      @micksurman6627 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Moon Rak rent is anywhere from 20k-100k depending on what you want/need.
      Not too sure about Kowloon grocery prices, but it is significantly more expensive than what I used to pay for groceries in Tung Chung

    It's fantastic place only for people who can afford to live place like discovery bay.

    • @prsw100
      @prsw100  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks, but Disco Bay is not particularly expensive compared to places where you don’t need the ferry ride. It’s a great place for a day out, but I wouldn’t want to live there unless my job was there.

      @TennisOnAction 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@prsw100 I lived in HK for 20 years and LA for 27 years now however I rather live in discovery bay when I am back wouldn't mind taking the ferry daily to commute.

      @prsw100  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TennisOnActionFrom what you say we both arrived in HK in 1974! The ferry ride is fun, but I feel it is limiting - ferry schedule, getting to and from it adds too much to a day - plus first and last ferries! I’m 5 minutes drive from the office. (Plus five minutes getting down to the car, and five minutes from the car park to the office!) ha.
