      Is Daybreak standalone? I feel i'm missing out big time with this series but there are so many entries i don't know if i'll have time to play them all chronologically...

    • @jclosed2516
      @jclosed2516 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@DoomsdayMayBeOkay Well - Of course it's better to play "from the start" to grasp the real big story behind all what is happening in the Trails world, but I think you can get away with starting with Trails Through Daybreak, because it's not only a new protagonist, but also a complete new country (Calvard) where the story takes place. Just make sure you take in all the lore when it is presented to you (most times in the form of books and brochures), and I think you will just be fine. A word of warning though - You absolutely risking loving this series enough to play all the games anyway...
      And when you want to know more about how it all started? Well - You get the chance around autumn 2025, because then the 3D remake of the very first game in the series (Trails In The Sky - First Chapter) will be released. I played all the games until now, but I for sure will absolutely love to replay that first game in full 3D and a new engine.

      @@DoomsdayMayBeOkay yeah, the series may currently be going on 13 games long, but it's split into distinct arcs: Nayuta, 1-3, 4-5, 6-10, and 11-13. One YT'er, TheTwitGamer, did an experiment where he played 6-8, then went back and did Nayuta and played all the way from the beginning, and found a different but equally fulfilling experience. Daybreak is very much a reset in the series, since it only has cameos from previous arcs, and you don't need their stories to understand the game - you will be guaranteed to get hooked and go back.

    I beat Metaphore on my 30th birthday, making it the last game I played in my 20s (born in December)
    When i was a kid, I was a huge Halo fan. It's hard to imagine at that age what you'll be doing at 30. Never would imagine Halo would lose me or that I'd be playing a game I would have skipped as a kid.
    To be fair to myself, i was unaware of Atlus at the time, but I doubt I'd play Person 3 or 4 or any of their games. It was Halo and World of Warcraft for me.
    Metaphore is just such a different genre of game that i could only appreciate as i matured with age. It really is a great game. Atlus killed it this year.

    • @SuperSupersoda
      @SuperSupersoda 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Metaphore wasn't the only Atlus game released this year. If you liked it, check out Persona 3 Reload. As Matty pointed out, Metaphore is really "Persona 5 and a half", it's the Persona game Atlus made to get new players in who don't want the baggage of having to start with Persona 6 as their introduction to the series. Also, there Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance was released by Atlus over the summer; and it's a remake of Shin Megami Tensei V which was released a few years ago. Persona is a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei games, which makes Shin Megami Tensei the grand-parent of Metaphore.

    Indiana Jones and The Great Circle has just really done it for me. It brought together so many genres and gameplay styles that I love, with immersive sim elements, exploration, platforming, puzzle solving, stealth, and first person brawling, and it did all of them in a way that felt very true to the character. I also really don't think enough credit has been given to the incorporation of the physical journal in the game, from how notes are scrawled onto and stuck between pages to the fact that the actual photos you take are the ones that are shown. They put a ton of work into it, clearly, and I think it really serves to immerse the player in a powerful and authentic way.
    On top of all of that, though, it also is just a really beautiful, well-optimized game that makes exceptional use of ray tracing without sacrificing performance, even on console. It already looks great, and thanks to the excellent art direction and scalability, it will continue to well into the future. MachineGames really nailed it, and years from now I think people will be looking back on it just as positively as we do The Emperor's Tomb.

    Great video and list as always! My personal top 10 of the year is:
    1. Silent Hill 2 remake: I absolutely loved the OG on the PS2 and when the remake got announced it immediately was my most wanted game. The way Bloober team rebuilt the game mechanics is very commendable and the performances finally sell the story as the OG voice actors weren’t the best lol
    2. Helldivers 2: this was my first multiplayer game in 3 years and it provided me and my friends an experience I haven’t felt with gaming since the 360 days
    3. Stellar Blade: the soundtrack won me over and the boss designs reminded me a bit of Silent Hill monsters so that was a plus lol
    4. Rise of the Ronin: made me feel like I was playing Fallout 3 for the first time again for some reason.
    5. Granblue Fantasy Relink: I’m only about halfway through this game at the moment but I’ve been enjoying my time with this game. The art style imo is so refreshing to see as I typical play games who prioritize more realistic graphics/art style
    6.Marvel Rivals: my first PVP multiplayer game since MW1 (2019) and I’m loving my time with this one. The content for this game can be endless which I feel like will have my attention for many years to come as long as they are consistent with the updates
    7. Astro Bot: I’m not the biggest platform enjoyer but after playing Astro I want to give other platformers a try as I really enjoyed my time with this game
    8. Indiana Jones: not even halfway done with this game but I’m enjoying my time with it so far
    9. Stalker 2: after years of waiting we finally got another entry for the Stalker franchise lol. Don’t want to make a comparison to Fallout but it somewhat craved my fallout itch I’ve been having lol
    10.Undisputed: as a huge combat sports fan I was just happy to finally get a boxing game after so long 😂
    My most anticipated game has got to be Marathon and I just hope we Atleast get an update on it next year

    1. Metaphor - I haven't finished it yet. But so far the story has me gripped, and I love the day night cycle and social aspect. Never played a persona game, and the art and music in just just living rent free in my head.
    2. Astro bot - I haven't had so much joy from a game in so long.
    3. Prince of Persia the lost crown - great metroidvania, the combat and builds are great fun and I've always loved prince of Persia.
    4. Tekken 8 - The king of iron fist! I played it sat in front of the tv with my brother this summer, like kids again. So much fun and the story is just wild and the graphics are glorious.
    5. Space marine 2 - I'm sad I couldn't play as a blood angel for the entire campaign, but damn this is the best way apart from table top to experience 40k.
    6. Stellar blade - I wasn't interested in this game at all until I played the demo like 3 days before release. The combat was pretty fun, and the idea of the world is pretty cool, didn't execute on the story and characters quite right, but it's still a fun time.
    7. Tactical breach wizards - special ops wizards, turn based tactical gameplay and the ability to blast people out of windows, the hilarious writing is just the icing on the cake.
    8. Dragons Dogma 2 - jumping onto a flying Griffin and stabbi g it in the eye, and crashing to the ground to hopefully have you pawn catch you is so much fun. And the world does feel dangerous if you don't prepare.
    9. Black ops 2 - before this year the last campaign COD game I had played was the one in 2014 and then I visited my brother and played through the modern warfare 2019 campaign, that was good. But this is a whole lot better. Have no interest in the online part though.
    I can't remember the other new games I played this year, didn't get FF7 or Wukong, so can't really comment on them

    Three of the top six games on this list are JRPGs, with Ys 10 an honorable mention (if he had played Ys 10, it absolutely would have landed in the top 8. I finished it a few days ago and it is awesome), with giant releases like a new mana game, a new Like a Dragon game, Gran Blue Fantasy Relink, Persona 3 Reload, Dragon Quest 3 remake (which I'm playing through right now, and it's awesome), Unicorn Overlord (the only reason I haven't played it yet is because I'm a PC gamer), and many others coming out this year that don't even register, but are all really good games. Japan is in the midst of a golden age, while the western studios all struggle to figure things out.

      @@tcsutton9121 Atlus had themselves a year, three of the biggest releases of 2024 and all three games were really good and delivered what they promised. Square also delivered this year, and Sega just had a massive movie open alongside their video game projects. Bandai Namco will have a Tales remake out in just a few weeks, too.
      When the great houses of JRPGs are all doing really, really well, it draws attention and eyeballs. Strong culture also helps smaller businesses. Gust is poised to launch one of the most interesting Atelier titles ever in 2025.
      Then, there's Falcom: the small business that's makes trails, the one piece of JRPGs, and the game franchise that does the MCU way better than the MCU does these days.

    I'm currently playing Trails Through Daybreak and it's great, but I'm disappointed they still haven't addressed the inconsistency where some characters have audio lines and others don't within the same dialog scene.
    Compared to other Trails games, the combat UI is a bit cramped and the turn order bar is completely ruined. The best part about Trails combat was that you could steal the enemy's turn bonus with an S-Craft, but now you can't do that anymore, nor can you tell exactly when an Art is going to be cast.

      And now it seems they've abandoned the game without properly addressing the frame time stuttering on PC or the PSSR issues on PS5 Pro, but not before e-begging for GOTY votes from customers who they don't otherwise communicate with. They're still the Bloober of old. Great game though, even with its issues.

I mean that scene even more so after the battle. Being a parent, that broke me. And even after that the sacrifice she made for you as the player after. It was so good but too much. The hurt was real.

    My problem with DD2 was that it was sold to us as the whole real version of what DD1 was supposed to be and that's just plain not true because the same issues they faced in the first game were present and they also brought even more problems. DD2 still struggles with performance to this day and has some of the worst city performance compromises I have ever seen in a game and it still doesn't solve the performance problems. I don't think I can even launch the game anymore because of shader-comp problems after the most recent patches. Here is to hoping they do a 3rd game with a team that has a proper amount of people rather than a small group that was thrown together. Capcom really did Itsuno dirty with Dogma 2.

      just one tip, last dungeon (Magla Sphere) is best for grind, you can get ridiculus amounts of exp and gear there. So dont worry, you can rush trhough untill final boss, grind some and you are gold. Trickster i great class to initate battle (range attack), spells that ignore resistances (like Emerald Votex from Soul Hacker) or create weakness (Frigid Fortress Tactic) works like a charm. That second one is just OP AF tbh if more then one party member use it.

    • @VClyfe
      @VClyfe 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      You are technically in the best place to start. Since all games are readily available on steam. You can start with trails in the sky trilogy on steam first, play trails from zero, trails to azure and then play the next 4 trails of cold steel games. After cold steel games is reverie and then daybreak, the one he shouted out in this video.
      They're remaking the very first sky game next year too, so you can always wait and start with that. But I'd say the original games are so good you don't really need to wait lol.
      A fair warning though - they're slow paced games that start off very slowly. Almost feeling like slice of life anime episodes. But eventually all of it connects to then build towards something a lot more special.

      Depends which platform you are playing on. If on pc I would recommend playing in release order starting with Sky. On PS/Switch, the sky trilogy is not available on those platforms so best to start with zero/azure duology there. I believe PS has all the games after the sky trilogy accessible. Cold Steel 1 & 2 are also not on the Switch. As to which is most friendly to a first timer its probably Cold Steel (structured very similarly to persona), like I said before though I would recommend starting with Sky as there are a lot of references to the arcs that came before Cold Steel that you will miss if you do not play prior games beforhand. PC is the only platform right now where you can play the entire series from start to finish unfortunately, hopefully they are able to remake all of the Sky trilogy and fix that in the future though!
      Edit: Starting with Cold Steel will spoil parts of the story for Sky games and Zero/Azure duology
