  • Das Rheingold, WWV 86A, is the first of the four music dramas that constitute Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen. It was performed, as a single opera, at the National Theatre Munich on 22 September 1869, and received its first performance as part of the Ring cycle at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, on 13 August 1876.

      @@fezchavez he'' saying that he is the act II. That would be my take. I didn't know that there isn't an act two, but after reading the comments what I realize (tho my intuition was dead on). The worst monster of the movie isn't the demon; David the man made machine is the greater monster.
      And YES. That would also make sense. He's entering his heaven (Valhalla), which is Act II. His second life etc etc..
      Good observation about him entering into Valhalla Act II that would be it. I would think..

      But in the end, David is just like his creator, Peter Weyland, man who he hates the most. Even though others believe it is wrong, David only goes forward jingoistic and twisted ambition and play the same music Weyland enjoyed. Also, he mistakes Ozymandias's poet as George Gordon Byron instead of Percy Bysshe Shelly, thus giving me an impression that his AI is malfunctioning. This shows David won't have good end. His name itself is spoiler:
      In bible, David was born shepherd (android) but due to his talent, he became successor of King Saul (Peter Weyland). However, David desired Bathsheba (Elizabeth Shaw) wife of Uriah (Charlie Holloway) and caused his death (in Prometheus through black liquid) and stole Bathsheba. This action angered God and David's later life became tragedy due to children he had with Bathsheba (neomorph, protomorphs, and etc.)

In the third world, this is not a priority for ours politicians and leaderships, they only seeks mony and power. SOOOOO YES, WE LIKE IT BECAUSE OF THE MOVIES OR THE TV SHOWS. Its a beautiful music. White privilege (as you suggest) doesn't exist.
      One true privilege exists, it is money !
      In every countries of the World including third world, there is 1% to 5% of the population which is rich. They are the privileged, the first class.

    • @heinrichkreubel759

      What you feel and feel about Richard Wagner is because his music is both from his heart, his soul, and a "typically German thing". He's one of the really big guys who reflect the Nordic-German spirit. This Nordic-German spirit has nothing to do with monotheism like Christianity. It's a character of its own which reappears again and again in German. Richard Wagner is inspired by the spirit of Allfather Wotan. Which always comes to the fore and comes to fruition.

    This is one of the most beautiful and poignant pieces of music I know of. When I was Curator of Ringwood manor I was enroute to an appointment in Tuxedo Park. As I passed through the gate this piece started. It was overwhelming. It couldn't have been choreographed better. As the lake opened into view The entry was playing the final notes

    I met a traveller from an antique land,
    Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
    Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
    Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
    And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
    Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
    Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
    The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
    And on the pedestal, these words appear:
    My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
    Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
    Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
    Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
    The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
    -Shelley’s Poetry and Prose (1977)

    I didn't see the movie. But the 2nd half of this clip with the harps and simple motif is when the Rheinmaidens down in the river cry up to the gods for them to retrieve the Ring. Wotan dismisses them and as the gods walk away into Valhalla, the Rheinmaidens tell them that what the gods have is all an illusion.
