- Well, finally got Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune going. I was having a lot of trouble getting the system to work and thought that there was something wired up funny so I attempted to hook up another steering wheel and had no success. I went into the Game Test Mode, then I/O Test, Then Go To I/F Initialize and make sure that the steering, gas and brake are all centered, then hit ok and you should have all of your controls set up and ready to go. If you dont do this you might find that you cant even start up the game. Hope that helps.

You have no idea how jealous this video makes me! I wants to play any of these games at my house! I don't care if it's maxi tune 1, 2, 3, 3dx+, 4, 5 makes no difference to me if I can play any of them at home I will be so happy!

Makes a big difference for me 5th has different cars now American muscles and jdm and you cannot port the game in usa if your in asian then that would cost much

I think some of my friends in Va have i think WMMT4 as of now, i know they have IDAS8 though, so i think they might actually have a Maxi Tune machine. they own an arcade that specializes in Japanese games ( music and racing ). Im a vrry deprived man. Thrre used to be a Maxi Tune 2 & 3 machines within an hours drive from where I live, as of now, the 2 machine was junked and the 3 machine is unplayable. i thimk an arcade in NYC might have it. idk where atm I'm just waking up atm lol

Based on your videos I definitely prefer the Maximum Tune series to Initial D.
The racing in the Maximum Tune seems to be more intense and the artwork is better and used to greater effect.
It was pretty fun watching those intense and very close races; the game looks like a blast. Thanks for the great video; it's appreciated.

aside from konami's music/rhythm games, I think the thing I miss most about arcades were these awesome racing games... Wangan, Initial D, Daytona... all good stuff!
I do like Wangan cause it's easy to just jump in and start racing... and not to mention the epic Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack!

I miss playing this game so much. There used to be a small Namco centre in my city that had two Maximum Tune 2 cabs linked and I would play the heck out of them until the day it closed. Really wish it got a console release! Wangan Midnight on the PS just isn't the same..

This vid brings back memories about Maximum Tune madness I had since 2004. Aside from more challenging races, the trance music brought by Yuzo Koshiro(YT account: yuzokoshiromusic) is so awesome!
If you're looking for a more challenged pace, have a 3DX+ version of this game based on System N2. I know it's already on the Hard-Off shops 'coz it's outdated already, Maximum Tune 5 is a hit nowadays(WOOT! XD) The updated game has 8 racing courses (C1, New Belt, Wangan(Gulf), Yokohane, Osaka Hanshin, Nagoya. Fukuoka and Hakone) and a lot more trancy, trancy, trance music and changes to upgrading kits and engine parts you'll love!

Dude...this is beast. I've been trying to figure out a way to run this for the longest time. I couldn't find anywhere explaining it though. This is outstanding.

crap... i miss playing this game. the arcade machine gets rarer and hard to find even without card and reader same as maximum tune 2 and some maximum tune 3 here in PHL. probably because some arcade owners dont know how to fix and calibrate and they were left broken and soon they will be dumped off
I played wangan midnight maximum tune 3 on an arcade and the first and sixth gear are wrecked plus the steering wheels has some of that dog bite looks and has that plastic wire to tie it up. It took me so hard to play it

The song played during the intro (before the Maximum Tune title screen) sounds like a sped-up version of the song "Maximum Acceleration". Anyone else notice this?

Am I the only uk based viewer that had never heard of this hardware until Luke showed it off? It's pretty powerful stuff graphics wise. As it ran off gd rom, did anything get ported to dreamcast? If so, any good?

I only played Cruise 'N USA on a arcade machine, when I was a kid. The arcade culture never got a real chance to grow in germany because the only place you could enjoy them are in bars... and they were 18+ restricted. A shame :P
I tried to play Sega Rally 2006 on my PS2 HDD and.. it did not work :| Actually I'm really motivated in racing games again and this looks fantastic and fun to play. Glad you get it work. Thanks for your reply

awesome game. What bugs me are those turn assist that pops up. There are several of them already on the road sides, it just takes away the fun of memorizing tracks and just gets in the way of game play imo.

i downloaded the maximum tune 2 soundtrack (which includes all songs from maximum tune 1, remastered), and after watching this video, i think the music playing while selecting your car (make, model, transmission) and selecting your mode of play is definitely better on Maximum Tune 1 than the remastered versions from the Maximum Tune 2 soundtrack.

OMG! I just played maximum tune 3 on mother's day yesterday at the drive-in. thing is they didn't have cards (witch wasn't required to play) and there was 3 but only 1 was off. Could be board malfunction on that one. But nice video!

seeing that this game ran under the Chihiro (Xbox-based) hardware, it makes me wonder why this or the sequel Midnight Maximum Tune 2 wasn't ported to the Xbox.
The chihiro had 128mb of ram that means it has the Double amount of ram than a xbox. The xbox just had 64mb

Have you heard that modified original Xbox's that have an extra 64mb ram added to them for 128mb total can actually run these chirio games? I am wondering if it is cheaper to mod my ram than to buy one of these units. Its already been proven that modded Xbox's can run Crazy Taxi, Virtua cop 3 and even the real arcade version of Outrun 2.
Also, that Trance sounds fucking sexy as hell in this game. Dammit I want to do the ram mod just to see if mine will boot it.
I have maximum tune 2 trying to run on Chihiro Type 1 and it won't start. My board is set to USA and I am not netbooting. How can I change it to export as I am guessing that is why it won't start. Any thoughts?

The Banapassport system is for MT4 onwards. The previous installments use special magnetic cards.

Seems like you're trying to play it in emulation. You can't. The game is not playable in emulation as of now, and might not be playable anytime soon considering how MAME does things.
WAIT. Is it not even possible to emulate a game for the MAME?
SonicSonic No. It's very well possible to emulate WMMT in MAME. But, because of MAME's process for how they emulate games, it can take quite a bit of time for something to be emulated.

Hi Luke I was wondering if you can help me with my maximum tune 2 arcade machine. I am having problems getting it to boot. the game does come on and loads 100% but after the handle check which says ok a big yellow sign pops up saying 'please call an attendant'. I have calibrated the steering wheel and everything like you said and even turned the card r/w off but it still says 'please call an attendant' after a number of attempts I still cant seem to find what the problem is. please can you let me know

Without that chd file the game can't load. Chd stands for Compressed Hard Disk
Manual has better control than automatic.
