    The first time I had hearing aids I was sitting in my living room and I heard this loud rushing sound from the kitchen .I jumped out of my skin only to find out it was the sound of the kettle boiling. I walked to work and I heard my footsteps on the pavement and birds tweeting in the trees. It’s very emotional.

      I would imagine it has takes a lot of getting accustomed to this new sense. I would also imagine quite a bit of ‘fine tuning’ the apparatus so things sound more ‘normal’. You are now also ‘bi-lingual’. ASL and speech! I think that is marvelous. Don’t loose the ASL. It is very valuable! ❤️

      If humanity only copped itself on, we could make this Earth into a paradise, but no, we would sooner spend our time and money mass murdering each other. We have not conducted ourselves as the Almighty intended, and we are about to pay the ultimate price. Madness. You turn your back on God, then you are walking towards hell, whether an individual or a nation.

    I have been hearing impaired since kindergarten. It was caused by measles at the age of three. I am 81 now. For all the years between I was mocked, mostly by my now X husband who slapped me up side my good ear!
    I have worn a Cochlear BAHA for 20 years now and still remember the day I got it.
    I THANK GOD for this blessing, just as these parents will on behalf of their children.

    One of the nice things that never occurred to me till this moment is that just a few short years ago, these ear pieces would have signaled to others that the wearer has some kind of handicap, thus carrying a small visual stigma as the price of restored hearing. But lo and behold, at any one time now probably 3-5% of the population have devices in their ears, so these patients totally blend in. That's an amazing, amazing thing.

      @@LindaHull-le1st She is probably not able to articulate speech at this stage, we learn speech by hearing so it will depend on her level of deafness. Many totally deaf people are only able to communicate orally with a few sounds and grunts. No totally deaf person acquires an oral language spontaneously, the way a hearing person does; a deaf person requires extensive therapy to learn to speak orally. And even after intensive therapy, some never acquire understandable speech.
      But now this young girl will be well on the way to acquiring speech.

    I remember hearing when this technology first became available that many within the deaf community felt it was a bad thing, because they believed that being born deaf was a natural thing for that person, and shouldn’t be seen as something “less than” that needed fixing. Looking at all these videos, I can’t help but wonder how anyone could look at the reactions of those hearing for the first time and still believe this miracle should be denied to anyone.

    • @Susweca5569
      @Susweca5569 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a personal choice, just like any other personal choice. If a deaf person wants to hear, they can utilize the technology available. If someone born deaf doesn't want to hear, then don't get them, and don't criticize or impede others who have made a different choice.

    • @rayannbeasley5458
      @rayannbeasley5458 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I am deaf and wear hearing aids. I know very little ASL. But I agree that just because we are deaf does not mean we need to be fixed. Hearing aids and cochlear implants (CI’s) are not a fix. You will always be deaf at the end of the day even with them. You cannot fix being deaf. But you can find ways to yourself. Hearing aids and CI’s don’t always help. It is exhausting just listening and processing what you hear. And when you take the hearing aids and CI’s off depending on the degree of hearing loss you won’t be able to hear.

      @@rayannbeasley5458 I really do appreciate that those of us who can hear cannot begin to imagine what it is like for someone without hearing in their day-to-day lives. While everything you say is, no doubt true for you and other hard of hearing or deaf people, I’m wondering what you personally think about using a device like the cochlear in terms of changing a deaf person’s total life experience. Wishing you the best.

    • @rayannbeasley5458
      @rayannbeasley5458 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      For me personally I am borderline on qualifying for them but with my autism it may be way too much for me. I struggle big time with understanding things especially with background noise and more than one person talking. I have severe hearing loss. My insurance won’t pay for CIs yet for me either. I would one day love to hear and understand what is being sang in a song without closed captioning but am very grateful for closed captioning and ASL. I am still learning ASL. Hearing aids and CIs are tools to help us just like glasses, wheelchairs, cane, walkers, seeing eye dogs, and canes for the blind. I am very grateful for the tools that help me. But there is no fixing being deaf. I will always be deaf

    • @rayannbeasley5458
      @rayannbeasley5458 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cydkriletich6538. CIs are a great tool if they help the person. Sometimes they are very overwhelming and for some they do not help and make things worse. And. There have been some people where they have to have the CIs surgically removed because of of some problems that it hurts them or it failing and need to be replaced. CIs make it hard to get MRIs too because I of the magnetic inside your head. But if someone wants one one and they qualify for one then that is awesome. But if they don’t want one that’s awesome too. There are some people who may wants one but would not be able too because of allergies to silicone or certain metals

My youngest son and his wife have two boys, 8 and 3, and his first son is a 25 week premie who ended up in the NICU for 14 mo and another two in a step down unit with multiple disabilities including being legally blind and deaf. They were beyond so excited watching him respond to their hearing their voices for the very first time. Even though he can talk or walk he makes noises and there’s nothing sweeter than seeing the huge smile on his beautiful little face when he hears me call his name. I’m beyond grateful knowing it’s truly a priceless gift. Sadly my son past away 11 months ago and just weeks after both boys birthdays and a week before his 38th. It absolutely broke our hearts that he’s not here to see them grow up, but we know that we’ll see him again someday in Paradise.🦻🤟

I lost my hearing when I was 4, now 17 and am lucky to live in a country where signing is recognized as our 3rd language. One day technology will be advanced enough to restore my hearing. I do miss hearing things, most of all my Grand Parents, my Parents and my big brother, there is much I can still remember. I can well imagine the excitement, bewilderment these kids are experiencing. The fact that I talk a little different, I sign a lot when talking, (both, some people mock me for), I love it when people enunciate their words - helps me to lip read. I hear through my hands - music beats, vibrations - we compensate. Speak normally to us and to our faces, you don't have to talk like we are idiots, most of all don't shout - simply we don't hear you. Lastly have respect, be tolerant, hearing loss is not the only impairment people suffer. My ambition, to be a teacher for the hearing impaired, next year I will begin that venture. Thank you for the video KINDNESS, pure magic. Stephanie.

      I have been around deaf people, and some with diminished hearing. I know the struggles they face each day, and the hurdles they have to overcome. The impatience of a fast-food cashier when they speak, and the deaf person just stands there questioningly. So many times, I wish I could just tell the cashier to be patient and a bit more understanding, but it seldom makes a difference. Everyone wants it now, not with a pause, but now.

    I am not hearing impaired, (except for a loss of high frequency in my right ear due to 3 years of gunfire without earplugs😒😒courtesy of uncle sam) but i imagine that a silent world is a very lonely one. It's great to see these kids and their providers avoid such a life.

    I think those are hearing aids at 18:02 and not cochlear implants, but I do love these videos regardless of how a child or adult's hearing is first changed so dramatically. It's always amazing to see those first reactions.

    Crying buckets here. I just cannot imagine. I for several weeks went through a short period when I had trouble hearing and I knew it was temporary but it really frustrated me. However I just can't imagine the emotions of hearing others and yourself for the first time. Hearing is something we just take for granted. Imagine hearing beautiful music for the first time.
    Very emotional to watch.

    Parfois la technologie et les recherches scientifiques peuvent avoir du bon comme dans ce cas précis! Je suis reconnaissante pour toutes ces personnes qui peuvent entendre! C´est une vidéo vraiment réconfortante.

    I have long hair. The first sound I heard was my hair brushing against my hearing aids. Some days all the sound is overwhelming, but I power through for the benefits.

    Para esto es para lo que debe trabajar la ciencia: la sonrisa de un niño o las lagrimas de emoción de una madre.

    This is what science should work for: the smile of a child or the emotional tears of a mother.
