Feel like I should have taken some shrooms before watching that intro... very chill music :)
Also, since this vid was released, it seems, the R9 V2 IS now compatible with the ES wheel.
AND the release of the Formula Wheel Mod means there is at least a cost effective option for those who prefer a formula style rim.
Great review BTW. Balanced, detailed, unbiased, yet involved enough for fellow sim-racers to be able to relate to. That temp issue is a concern... but hopefully something will be done about that in the coming months.

I'm stuck between this and the fanatec CSL dd setup. The fanatec is about $20 cheaper after adding a clutch to each.
This is for a base, wheel, pedals+ clutch, and desk mount moza is 638.90, fanatec is 619.75.
I think the biggest issue is the fanatec base is out of stock, but the moza doesn't have an h pattern shifter and I'm out of USB ports. The moza also doesn't have an upgrade to the max force later and fanatec does.

I picked up a great deal from MicroCenter and this has been a great upgrade from my G25! Yes, my old wheel was..old. I noticed the shifter paddles on my unit seems to be much stiffer (better) from the ones on your unit. I can easily change gears regardless of pulling from either of the edges. The upgrade path exists with options for a stand alone USB set of load cell pedals or the F1 steering wheel. The shipping prices are a bit steep, so it is better to find the product locally. Overall, this has been a great addition for the price. Thanks for the review.

I don't see the point of upgrading from the R5 to the R9 unless you want to use a bigger wheel. I feel like using an 11 inch wheel on the R9 would be too unrealistically strenuous unless you turn down the ffb. Just a theory though.

Hey Corey - Long time Subscriber here - I've recently bought a Moza R5 after watching you and the likes of SuperGT for yonks and deciding a control pad was holding me back and while I do have an R5 V2, I'd like to clear a few things up following along with your review with my own unit:
--For clarity, I bought the Moza R5 Bundle, Clutch pedal add-on, and brake pedal performance upgrade kit from Overclockers UK for a total price of £560 as of September 2023
-While small, the ES wheel certainly does feel really well built, satisfying to hold and use, and does NOT feel like a toy, which most other small diameter wheels do. This thing feels like a solid, professionally built product.
-The brake pedal on the more recent units have a higher spring tension, so while they are linear pedals still, the brake pedal is noticably tighter to push down.
-The wheelbase itself seems to of had an internal design, component, or operational change as they no longer get very hot. They get warm, however they now also begin to dial back the force when approaching certain temps, and this throttling is very intelligently done, so it begins to happen long before it gets to a noticeable level so you can carry on all day without ever noticing any feel in the wheel.
-Paddle shifters are now a little more rigid, so they don;t flex anywhere near as much as the older units. I tried replicating the shifting issue you raised with my own unit and no matter where I pulled the paddle, even if I used a finger nail on the very upper or lower edges, I only had to pull it back a few mm for it to click and register that input.
-In terms of wheels, they now offer an ES based McLaren GT style frame, so you can take the control module off of the standard wheel frame and install it onto a different frame. The cost of this frame is only £37-39 on most online retailers, so they are beginning to add options for those with an R5 base that want different style wheels and don't have the budget to spend big bucks.
-Regarding Console compatibility, this is still ongoing with the R5 wheelbase, BUT they have recently released the Moza R3 bundle which works with XBox right out of the box. Yes it's less torque, however with consoles, I suppose playing it absolutely safe knowing that there's children that may end up using these, the lower the torque the better. At 3Nm torque, this sits it directly between the Thrustmaster T300 (4Nm) and the Logitech G29(2.4Nm)
Love the content as usual, Hopefully see yuou around in the sim some day and have a good battle with you, as long as we're not battling for last place XD

I always enjoy your reviews Corey. The camera work is high class. Make that professional class. The commentary is always clear to understand. You start with the positive side. Every review by anyone points out the positive side of the product. What make your review great is you speak up on the problems with the product. The big one that stands out...
You are a beginner sim racer and buy this bundle and it's fantastic. But you develop a want/need for a stronger DD base. Then you find out that the ES wheel will not work with any other DD base from MOZA. Bummer. Might be a safety reason for that decision MOZA made. Using the small ES on an R9. Would the R9 have the torque to snap that wheel out of your grip and cause injury? I'm just guessing as to why they isolated the compatibility.

Sorry, double post... But quick question:
Not much has been said about the Table Clamp in any of the reviews that I've seen so far. Is the Plate part (which fixes to the wheelbase itself) detachable from the pair of table clamps or is the whole thing one solid undetachable unit?
I have a sliding keyboard 'draw' in my desk, and so the length of those clamp screws just will not fit... no way... and so it would be useful to know the specs of the table clamp before making an investment...
    Cheers :)

  • @gundamOPS
    @gundamOPS ปีที่แล้ว +2

It's not that the es wheel is fantastic. It's just that the wheelbase is tuned to the size of the wheel. They designed the smaller wheel to compensate the torque, to reduce the steering ratio. If you used a larger wheel, you're pretty much reducing the effort, hence nullifying a but of the ffb detail. The wheelbase is simply not optimised for large wheel. At least not yet.
Moza is working to make all wheels compatible. Also Race Beyond Matter accidentally leaked the RS V2 in his R5 video and it seemed to work well with the R5.

I'm concerned about the compatibility issues, knowing that you have to commit to the Moza "Ecosystem" for the wheel, pedals and base as they don't seem to work with other competitor items, it seems really odd that you can't use the wheel off of this Bundle with anything else. If anything it seems a bit wasteful.
I had a question too, I think those pedals look interesting, but I didn't like how far apart they are from each other distance wise, is that adjustable? can you move them around to the users preference?
I'm not particularly clued up on force feedback numbers in terms of Nm output, so I don't have much reference as to what that would feel like? Most of the racing Iv'e done so far has been on a ThrustMaster TS-XW base and helpfully ThrustMaster themselves don't actually provide the feedback torque on their website, so is there anything the R5's "5.5Nm" can be compared with for reference?
As always a stellar job with the review, the detail you've gone to is fantastic and the cinematography is immense! Thanks again Corey :)

Yeah, but with Fanatecs CSL DD, it has a lot of GLARING design flaws which a lot of users are showcasing all over Twitter/X and Reddit. THose design flaws simply don;t exist on the Moza products. Not only that, Moza are actively addressing both software and hardware issues pretty quickly, so in terms of listening to their community at all levels, including the entry level space, they're trumping fanatec hands down as Fanatec only really seem to start caring when someone has dumped a few months worth of full time salary into a single component.

Just a piece of advise for anyone thinking about buying anything from Moza Racing.
I hope that this is not the wrong place to add this, in case it's not feel free to delete it.
I'm not going to give all details about the current situation but I'm force to bring American Express to a legal claim agains this company for totally ignoring several issues with their R9 and the FSR Formula Wheel that I bought a few weeks ago. The main message here is that if you get into troubles with their products you could receive the same unacceptable support I'm receiving which it is currently been totally ignored.
The base and wheel are failing since day one. I have been supplying videos and telling them about the shifting issues and the noise coming from the base and they are basically not acting as you will expect (last news received 7 days ago).
There are multiple issues with the base and the wheel.... tried all kind of things to make them work but they are somehow damage or something went wrong on the assembling process.
This is just a message to let you guys know that you could be facing the same level of support.
In case of anyone wanting to know more let me know. I can show you the videos that are showing some of the issues I'm dealing with.
