You are genuinely becoming.. in fact I think you are my favourite TH-cam channel. Brilliant enthusiasm. Practical advice and obtainable results. Love it! Thank you. X

Your “zero” is superior to most people’s “hero”…
A few weeks ago, I rolled out my 6x3 cobblestone mat and a bunch of modular multi-story “urban” buildings for a couple of city sessions in my current RPG campaign. While not as impressive as yours, it did give us the “crowded vibe” as the PCs entered the city gates, did heir recon, and went about their library heist mission. There was a cool chase and plenty of playable space for action at street level and above.
The biggest problem I encountered was finding a way to set up the buildings to read as a bustling city without blocking line of sight when the positions of the various miniatures became critical. I opted to set up the buildings so as to block my own line of sight and reach (as the GM) so the players could reach their minis and keep track of all the action…

It’s like a Bob Ross painting where it all comes together at the end.
“We’ll put some happy little gallows here.”

You put out the trees and I’m like, yea that looks pretty good. Then you added the stone walls and I’m like 🤯

This is a video I didn't know I needed. How have you not got more subs. If I could I'd do it twice. 👍

I've really enjoyed this and the "build better battle settings" video you've made. I think it would be a good idea to add a link to that original video in the comments and/or reference it in the video. Also, it would have been cool to mention a few of those "during play" tips along with your thinking about how you set this table. Nevertheless, this is a great idea and I look forward to seeing more!

Great tips. Love the set-up. i even thought to add modular roads/trails that can be laid down on the grassy mat.

I started DnD on Roll20 and honestly sometimes forget that it can be played in person. I wish my friends lived closer...

Great fundamental tips on how to lay out terrain. Not everyone has the detailed understanding of city planning or how cities develope.

So, where is the city board video? BTW love the video. I am hoping to get my terrain out for my online group when I start running a campaign later this year.

Yikes - a gallows and a guillotine? That's one violent town! I really need to start adding a bunch of buildings to my collection but I'm finding the expected time commitment to be a bit daunting. Where do you get all the tables, barrels and bits? Wizkids?

Reaper miniatures has lots of bits to fill out your table

Great video Garman! I'm definitely going to have to go back now and look at your videos on making game mats again! We've just been using the dining room table and a few dungeon tiles I've made. Everybody loves them and says they are a big improvement so if I roll out a game mat complete with grass and cobblestone streets they'll flip! Your city in this video brings to mind the frontier towns and early New York City from Assassin's Creed Rogue. I haven't made any buildings yet other than the ruins of houses from your 'Thundertree Ruins' houses in 'The Mines of Phandelver' series that you did! (I love that series) So now I have a second project! Congratulations on another awesome video Garman! PS If you haven't heard of him Matt @RP Archive has a couple of videos on city terrain. His city feels like a dirty overcrowded Jack-The-Ripper Victorian England-era London! Here's the link if you should wish to take a peek th-cam.com/video/K_vR2wQlzFo/w-d-xo.html Problem is it feels so above my head as to not seem like I could build it!

*Adds a well and a cart*
    Aww! That's nice!
*Adds a gallows and a guillotine*
    Well that escalated quickly!

doesn't matter really, but I think a couple of your doors are upside down. That "Z" shape in real life works the same way as a normal support beam. since the door is only anchored at the hinges, the angle of the beam should start from the top right corner above the handle and then end at the bottom left at the hinge. If you do the opposite its mostly just adding weight rather than helping to carry the load of the door.

I love the way setups like this look. The problem I have with them is you end up having to play around the buildings, people on one side of the table can't see the other side of the table, etc. Any thoughts on how to minimize or eliminate line of site issues like that?

Begging yer pardon, but if you read about medieval towns and cities, I don’t believe you will find much mention made of cobblestone roads and sidewalks. Medieval times still saw a fair amount of dirt pathways and lots for animal grazing and home gardens. I don’t have a specific date to give you when paved roads and cobblestone paths gained prominence in towns and cities, but I believe those features began to appear more commonly in the Renaissance period. But, as in many things “fantasy,” you build your towns and I’ll build mine and we’ll both have fun. Everybody has their own “fantasy world” in our imaginations.

How did you paint the walls to them houses I have the same house they are from war world gaming

    • @StorycraftSociety
      @StorycraftSociety  ปีที่แล้ว

You have to spray primer it first for the paint to really take. Then just basic acrylic craft paint.
