Je crois qu'on ne prend pas bien la mesure de cette interview. On parle d'une personne qui a littéralement révolutionné la musique, l'un des artistes à la fois les plus plébiscités mais aussi des plus discrets. Aujourd'hui Thomas Bangalter débarque dans le plus grand des calmes sur France Inter alors que, encore un bon nombre d'entre nous n'a même jamais vu son visage, encore moins entendu le son de sa voix, pour nous donner une leçon d'humilité. L'émotion est à la fois indescriptible et palpable. J'ai un réel sentiment étrange d'accomplissement. Merci à toi Thomas et merci à France Inter de m'avoir permis de vivre ça.

@@nathachou6330 pas de soucis 😅, je suis en fan de la première heure, mais non, ils n'ont rien révolutionné, c'est ça mon propos, à l'époque d'Homework la house et la techno existait depuis une douzaine d'années à la louche, si c'est pas plus, je rebondissais sur le commentaire d'Elliot, au delà de la qualité musicale, ils ont su créer un visuel, plein de mystère, en a découlé ce fameux son French touch également, ça a eu aussi un impact sur l'image de la House/Techno qui était très négative dans les médias français, et à Laurent Garnier, et rien que pour ça, merci à eux.

The translation is bad. He says "J'avais eu l'occasion avec Daft Punk de...", which means "I had the opportunity with Daft Punk to ...". He's actually not separating himself from Daft Punk

Amazing seeing him without helmet after all these years, in an interview, in HD, talking about his past and his future, man, as a Daft Punk fan since Homework, I feel that they made the right choice and I love seeing Thomas doing so well and finally talking and expressing what he thinks and does. This is beyond beautiful to me, I would love to see Guy Man talking as well or at least doing some music or art in general.

I’ve been a Daft fan since 1995, bought every album, video and release on Roule and Crydamore, as well as seen them play live, but never heard Thomas speak til now. Great interview and insight into one of the most unknown famous musicians of our lifetimes. Merci beaucoup! ❤

Quelle intelligence. Une sagesse rare dans le monde de la musique. De la justesse dans les propos, de la nuance. Une honnêteté remarquable. En vrai je ne suis pas étonnée qu’il soit aussi pertinent. Le mec a caché sa tronche pendant plus de 20 ans, s’il a fait de la musique c’est qu’il le voulait réellement. Il a vécu librement parmi nous sans qu’il puisse être reconnu où qu’il aille. Le concept est remarquable c’est ce qui lui confère sa douceur étonnante.

Quelle humilité c’est incroyable ! Une belle fin malgré la volonté d’en voir plus, une fin au sommet. Sa vision de l’ia est tellement légitime, il a du voir l’évolution depuis des débuts et leur volonté de faire un album avec des instruments découlent déjà de cette vision en 2013. Merci Thomas ❤️

It's just so nice to see him. I've listened to his interviews before and those were great as well, but now, to both hear the smile in his voice as well as see his smile itself- he's beautiful! Seeing the thoughtfulness in his eyes and expressions just brings everything together so nicely- exactly the way you imagined he would be when you listened to old audio interviews. en 94 j'ai eu l'occasion de voir Daft punk dans un club parisien à côté de la Gare du Nord, mec tranquille posé, j'ai eu un échange avec Guy Manuel en gros de quel bled ils venaient moi j'avais un groupe de rock l'époque etc... Thomas a décroché le poste de commandement pour venir me demandé si les samples étaient bon je lui est dit que c'était de la tuerie et paf il est reparti continuer son mix . Echange incroyable quand je repense à cette époques et la légende qu'ils sont devenus mais ils restent humbles tous de même .Ils on pas que créer un univers mais carrément révolutionné la musique.
Je suis brésilien et dès mon plus jeune âge j'ai découvert et suis tombé amoureux de Daft Punk. Ce qui m'a fasciné toute ma vie dans leur musique, outre le rythme incroyable, ce sont les messages critiques derrière les paroles. Les raisons qui les ont poussés à mettre fin au projet sont fidèles à tout ce qu'ils ont toujours proposé dans leur art. Je trouve que c'est merveilleux de rester fidèle aux valeurs philosophiques et artistiques auxquelles nous croyons et que nous transmettons au monde. Je les aime, j'ai toujours suivi et suivrai leurs futurs projets. Leur art m'inspire.

Je remercierai jamais assez cet homme et son duo avec Daft punk pour l’impact qu’ils ont eu dans ma vie personnelle. Petits fils d’immigré j’ai grandi avec le rai la chanson française puis le rap. Puis ces deux mecs qui sont sortis de nul part pour me faire goûter à la musique electro. De la, je me suis rendu dans d’autres soirées, j’ai croisé un tas de gens et de personnes passionnées. J’ai pris un autre chemin que celui que j’aurais du prendre. Et tout ça, grâce à quelques albums …
Daft punk, dr dre, Kanye Et Travis sont les architectes ultimes de la musique.

T.B, we know your few enthousiasm for interviews, you've given a very little when you were a member of the Iconical Daft Punk Duo, so this morning its fine ? Not too hard to wake up in front of a microphone ?
- TB : no, no, its fine, very well.
- her : Alright. You are here for your first solo album since the split of Daft Punk, two years ago, which was a choc for millions of fan in the entire world, us here too; "Mythologies" this new album, is a symphonic album, stunning, ambitious, very far from your electronic world, it is a composition for the ballet of Angelin Preljocaj, presented last year to the Opéra of Bordeaux, then in the theater of the Chatelet, it is your first instrumental album of classical music, the first time that you write for an orchestra, for real musicians that are playing with instruments, you wanted to take risks, to get out of your zone of comfort, to find back, in fact, the feeling of beeing a beginner ?
-TB : Exactly. At the same time I had with Daft Punk the occasion to work with orchestras previously, for the music of the movie "Tron Legacy", a Disney movie, and then also in our last album where there was orchestras, but we worked with orchestrators, with arrangers, and for a long time I wanted to "rub myself" to the exercise of orchestration, and the proposition and invitation from Angelin came at a judicious moment and that abled me to get down to this project.
- her : so the proposition of Angelin Preljocaj, he says that he asked you a composition that would mix classical and electronical music, and it is you that decided, that said "no electronical, you took the radical decision like "no i want to get rid of the machines completely".
- TB : At that moment, i have the feeling of questioning my relation to the technology, the place of technology in my life and in my creative process, and it is true that i had both at the same time the desire to leave machines besides a little bit, to really experiment with the orchestra, and at the same time, the orchestra is a balance that works in itself and i didnt want to add an additional setting.
- her : and it was a deliverance for you to do without machines, without computers ?
- TB: Well i have the impression that it is for many. When you leave this machines besides, we have the impression to be hmm, to be in a calm environnement, appeased, so me I've always been fascinated by machines, and by technology in general, what I am questioning and that scares me a little, it is the relation that we maintain with it, and the nature of this relation.
-her : so yes exactly, I want to ask you the question, when you see the artificial intelligence landing everywhere, notably in the music, does it fascinate you or does it scares you ?
- TB : hmm i have the feeling.. Well we speak about the myth of Icare at one moment in this spectacle
-her : he is burning his wings
-TB : he is burning his wings, Dedale, Icare's father, build him wings made of wax and feathers, and warns him in fact, about this tool that he fabrics, and the way so that he would be able to use it. - her : to write this partition for an orchestra, it is not given to everyone, by the way Preljocaj speaks about a real prowess from you, how did you learn this specific writing, you relapsed into partitions, you knew how to read, write a partition ? You wrote "at the ink and the feather", oldschool style ?
- TB : hmmmmmmmm No, myself, I have a relation to dance and to the orchestral music, atleast to the music from afar, because my mother was a dancer, my uncle and my aunt too, and finally i took piano lessons with a professor that was a repeater at the opera when i was young, and it is true that it was a part of my life. After, i didnt go to the conservatory, and at a certain time, I really settled down while reading orchestration treatises...
- her : you've worked basically (EDIT : dude thats rude from her, i hate her, really i do)
- TB : b..mmb : I have a hardworking nature, even if maybe people couldnt see it, but here we go
- her: yes we can see it here
- TB : I worked, but as you said, its true that i like to be in a position, in a posture, to get out of a comfort zone, and continue to stay a bit a beginner, its what motivates me mostly yes.
- her : yes. You say : "I've always tried to get out of the boxes in which I locked myself"
- TB : yes
-her : it is what motivates you all the time, that makes you wake up, to do the umpteenth album that you already know how to do, that doesnt interest you.
- TB : No. But even, I think that with Daft Punk we've made 4 albums in 28 years, and every disc was different, had a starting point different, different technics, and it was a little bit like getting into in a sort of accelerated formation, in a new world every time, and it's a little bit a natural process, to be able to continue this approach.
- her: In Any case, the result is impressive, one hour and a half of classical music, both nervous and lyrical, you claim the influences of Bach, Vivaldi, and of Prokofiev, and it is true that we hear all that
- TB : well me I claim only my music, I don't have the pretention to claim anything (laughs)
- her : we hear in it in any case a lot Prokofiev, each piece is associated with a theme, a mythology, old or current, there is the Minotaure, the mythology of Barthes like the Catch, there is even the Covid 19 and the War, contemporary mythologies, according to Preljocaj, and there is the Amazones, we listen ...

-her : what are the amazones ? What are this warriors of ancient greece, this fighters, this strong women, evokes you ? What are they saying about the Woman of today, Thomas Bangalter ?
- TB : well the Amazones, yes they are warriors, the queen of the Amazones, Thalestris, she tales only one bite of Alexandre Legrand, and it is at the same time an imagined world, that could counter balance this masculine domination during centuries, and it is also a dreamed world, so it is really exhilarating, and very exciting t to be able to put them to music, yes.

- TB : I dont have that feeling, rightly. If we take .. there is the Gorgones as well, with Persée, who fights against Meduse, and Persée has a shield, and in the inside of his shield, it is a mirror to protect himself from the petrifying look of Meduse, and finally I have the feeling, indeed, with that Helmet or this mask, that I had kind of this shield, to maybe imagine protect myself from petrifying, from celebrity or from success or from exposure, so maybe it spoke to me more, this myth of Persée.
- Her : its true that when we look at your career, sorry, but it is 28 years of planetary success of Daft Punk, you've been ambassadors of French touch, and beyond French touch, you've been ambassadors of France in fact, you were one of our biggest French prides during 28 years ! How someone ive with that ? How someone protects himself ? Have you lived it with excitation, with anguish, with distance ?
- TB : With Distane, with a lot of detachment in fact. This robots characters, we navigated between fiction and reality, but I have little bit the feeling to have .. it was like an illusionist or a puppeteers, which means that at that moment, we are very focused in fact, on the device, we are really on the show, and finally we can also ask it you actors in the theatre, we don't really look at the public, as much, finally.
- her : because it petrifies.
- TB : I dont know. Its crazy after all these years from interviews in 1997 to today, his voice is still youthful.
I honestly cried hearing they split, knowing how much they mean so much to me. But Im glad they're still in the show business, even if its not standing side by side.
I hope you and the ballet team come to the US, and hopefully Oregon, soon, Thomas, Im not a ballet fan but I would love to attend this live in theater, just to simply show support for your new album.

Lorsque je disais les ‘’Daft Punk’’, vous aurez compris que je parlais surtout de Thomas et Guy-Manuel.
Dans cette interview, Thomas a une force dans la simplicité, la sagesse et l’humilité.
Daft Punk a inspiré beaucoup de personnes du monde entier avec leur succès mondial.
Ils avaient un temps d’avance sur tout.
Ils ont fui la célébrité, la notoriété ou la gloire personnelle pour laisser place à leur créativité artistique qui était au-delà de la musique.
Aujourd’hui, Thomas se met à parler non pas pour expliquer les milliers d’histoires qu’il pourrait raconter avec Daft Punk qui sont certainement dingues, mais pour parler de ses nouveaux horizons musicaux que je suivrai avec plaisir.
Bravo Thomas et merci déjà pour ces 28 années de bonheur.

Paradoxalement, j'ai un énorme regret que j'ai depuis des années et des années c'est d'avoir eu aussi peu d'explications durant l'existence des DAFT sur leurs musiques. Manifestement, cela semble être un excellent album de musique classique. Quelle magnifique démonstration de son talent, d'humilité, de travail et des compétences musicales qui sont les siennes ! Je suis si triste qu ils se soient séparés depuis 2021 j'en fais toujours pas le deuil je crois... mais la façon dont il se sont séparé... Et comment il l'ont mise en scène est magnifique... Une page s'est tourné mais de la plus belle des façon. Je rejoins certain commentaires, une leçon d'humilité que certain artistes devrait s'inspirer.... Bravo à lui bravo à eux merci france inter.

Moi elle me plait cette réponse, il a su apprécier et découvrir au fil du temps son expérience musicale en tant que Daft Punk, on dirait qu'il a su quand il a voulu changer et se renouveler.
J'ai l'impression que le timing pour arrêter Daft Punk est bien pour ma part, cela a durer son temps, nul besoin de l'étirer outre mesure.
Il est serein et satisfait du legs musical qu'il laisse derrière lui, c'est une belle conclusion à son œuvre, c'est parfait.

Honestly, they did a great job, they revolutionized music and they are my favorite musicians, and one day I would like to meet them in person, and take a photo with the two, I always thought and wished it was without their helmets, well that could be a reality, but at this point, I am not only impressed by seeing Thomas without a helmet, but also by imagining being in front of two people who, over so many years, have made so many magnificent pieces of music and who have repercussed throughout my life, that's something amazing and it would be a dream come true, to meet two great artists and musicians today, and simply express how grateful i am for those moments and emotions that put me through during my life and the impact of their music today

Indescriptible moment, lorsque le mythe rencontre la réalité. Quel soulagement de voir que ça continue même sous une autre forme. Il ne reste plus qu'une interview de Guy Manuel pour être comblé. va t'il nous concocter quelque chose également ? Les gars ne seront jamais à quel point ils ont bouleversé le monde de la musique, mais nous on peut plus facilement en prendre la mesure. Et on continuera à les aimer avec ou sans casques. Daft Punk, un véritable bracage. Un ovni musical quand ils ont sorti leur premier album. Ils ont debarqué de nulle part avec des sons enormes dont une bonne partie repris de vieux tubes. Ils ont vraiment fait une superbe carriere avec des beaux albums. J'espère que Thomas et son ancien complice nous regalerons encore avec leurs creations même si DP c'est fini.

Thomas Bangalter we know your lack of enthusiasm for interviews, you only gave a few when you were a member of the iconic daft punk duo. So this morning it’s not too hard to wake up in front of a mic ?
T- No no it’s ok. It’s really ok.
L- You are here for your first solo album since daft punk disbanded two years ago. A shock for your millions of fans around the world, here too.
« Mythology » this album is an album is symphonic, stupefying and ambitious, very far away from your electro universe. This is a composition for the Ballet of Angelin Preljocaj shown (the ballet not the music) at Bordeaux and Chatelet (name of a place in Paris). This is your first album of instrumental and classical music, the first time you write for an orchestra, for musicians of chair and bones who play with instruments.
You wanted to take risks, to get out of your comfort zone, to deep down get back the feeling of being a beginner.
T- Exactly… Though I had the opportunity while in daft punk to work with orchestras, for the music of the film “Tron Legacy”, for a Disney film and also for our last album where there were orchestras. But… but we were working with orchestrators and arrangers and I wanted for a long time to experience the exercise of orchestration. The proposal of Angelin arrived at the right time and allowed me to take on this project.
L- So, the proposal of Angelin, at the beginning, was one mixing orchestra and electro, it was you who chose, who said “no, no electro”, who made the radical decision to say “I want to totally throw away the machines”.
T- So, at this point, I’ve had for a long time now, the feeling of questioning my own relationship to technology… the importance of technology in my life and my creative process. And it’s true that I had, at the same time, the desire to put aside the machines a little bit, to focus on experimenting with the orchestra. And at the same time an orchestra is an equilibrium in itself and I didn’t want to add a new parameter (the electro element).
L- Was it freeing to get away from the machines ? From the computers ?
T- I’m under the impression that it’s freeing for a lot of people, when machines are put aside we have the feeling of being in a calm and appeased environment. I was always fascinated by machines and technology generally speaking. What I question and I’m afraid of, is the relationship we have with it, and the nature of this relationship.
L- Indeed, and I want to ask you a question, when you see the AI arriving everywhere like in music, is it fascinating for you or does it make you afraid ?
T- Hm, we speak of the myth of Icarus at some point in this spectacle.
L- Who burns his own wings
T- Who burns his own wings… Daedalus, Icarus’ father, build the wings for Icarus, and warns him about this tool, and the manner with which he will able to use it. Icarus rises and is completely overwhelmed and ends up getting too close (to the sun). So I think that with all this technology, it will really be the manner, how to think about it, how to regulate, integrate the maximum of ethic and philosophy in this approach.
L- Regulating is needed, you think ?
T- From a philosophic point of view. Which is what is complicated, the how of a regulation that is philosophic and ethic before anything else. But there is also this idea of the sorcerer’s apprentice that’s starting to arrive, even in regards to the moratorium proposed by scientists
L- And Elon Musk
T- Yes, that even them are starting to be afraid of their own creation, and it’s actually a bit concerning.
L- Writing a partition for an orchestra is not for everybody, Angelin speaks of a real feat from you. Did you start writing ? Did you know how to write it ? Did you write with a feather and ink ?
T- No… I have a relationship with dance and orchestral music.. or at least with dance because my mother was a dancer. I come from a family, my uncle and my aunt are too (dancers). And finally I had piano lessons with a teacher who worked in an orchestra in the opera when I was young. And it’s true that it (the orchestra culture) was a part of my life. Though I did not attend the conservatory. So at some point I just sat down with treaties on orchestration.
L- So you worked (hard is hinted by Lea).
T- I’m of a working nature even It wasn’t seen or too little. Even if it’s not seen today.
L- It shows, it shows.
T- So yes I worked (Thomas chooses another word without the “hard” hint). I like to be in a position, a posture, getting out of a comfort zone and to stay a little bit like a beginner. This is my principal motivation.
L- You said “to get out of the boxes that you imprisoned yourself in”. This is what motivates you to wake up.
T- Yes Yes
L- Not to do the umpteenth album

@@TheFirelinuxy Merci, quasi jamais été et aimé les concerts, les gars enregistrent proprement un son en studio c’est pour qu’il soit directement dans les oreilles. Pour moi on ne peut pas dire qu’on aime aller à un concert pour la musique en elle même mais plutôt pour l’ambiance. Je préfère largement écouter la musique et ses détails via un casque ou autre ! (Et c’est moins cher ahah)
@@tomkun_ pour de vrai, les 1er lives où il jouait Rollin and scratchin (entre autres) sont juste à mille lieux du single qui est pourtant atomique. Je ne suis pas heureux d'être relativement vieux aujourd'hui mais j'ai vécu ces moments et le son était apocalyptique, il le faisait gronder bcoup plus bas et longtemps que sur le morceau studio, on aurait dit une Harley Davidson qui crachait sur 20000 watts 🫨😯 et l'avantage du live c'est qu'il faisait monter et descendre ce son sur plus de 10mn c'était monstrueux et impossible à entendre en album. Même si l'album est un graal, quoi qu'il en soit.. j'en ai eu une mauvaise copie en cassette audio (d'un live) et n'ai malheureusement jamais retrouvé ces enregistrements sur youtube ou autre.. c'est bien dommage
