Nonsense. Belief in God/Creator/Divinity/Great Spirit is ubiquitous because of the obvious evidence of highly engineered order, conscious beings, etc.
AXP knuckleheads stupidly believe that belief in God is caused by religion rather than religion caused by belief in God.

I remember each of Andrew's calls, and frankly, they were all equally exasperating. He seemed to have a prepared script for most of them. He kept calling for weeks, and the majority of his calls started with "ummm yeah...ummm I was wondering why you don't believe in God," as if he had not already asked that question on several previous calls.

Don't forget the (un)constrained sobbing and assorted noises that have no acceptable explanation. I'm pretty sure it was one of this muppet's calls that some insightful audience member opined that it's nice that the caller took the time out of his day to call-in.... *FROM A BUCKET FACTORY*
He's like a precursor to Anthony, the "latest" (all things are relative; especially with clips being re-released) troll who's schtick is so unimpressive...I'm convinced it's just a game to see how long he can keep his shitty microphone way too loud and pressing against his lips *DESPITE EVERY ONE OF HIS CALLS BEGINNING WITH AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THAT HIS AUDIO SUCKS, A SUGGESTION FROM THE HOSTS, AN ATTEMPT TO FOLLOW THE SUGGESTION (AUDIO GOES NORMAL FOR A FEW SENTENCES), AND THEN BACK TO PRETENDING HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO USE HIS SHITTY PHONE, DESPITE OFFERING A DISCLAIMER INITIALLY THAT HE HAS SHITTY AUDIO (AND THE MERRY-GO-ROUND CONTINUES....)
....but I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who genuinely thinks this caller is a legitimate embarrassment; the load his mother should have swallowed (or at the least, she could have insisted her brother pull out)...a parody of intelligence, masquerading as a caricature of a well-adjusted human being.

I have no problem with people who think/believe like this caller. It's a free country and life's too short for conflict.
But the trouble starts - and for many atheists simply can't be avoided - when religious people insist that I be COMPELLED to think their way and that our education systems have a 'duty' to indoctrinate my children that way - often by multiple religious clerics who have found their way, usually unelected, onto education boards.
I've not only been refused jobs in education systems, I've had witness evidence summarily dismissed as obvious lies by a judge because I'd insisted on an Affirmation rather than a Bible Oath. An Affirmation it soon became clear I took far more seriously than people who waved Bibles about.
I'm NOT saying this caller feels that way. But thousands - millions - of religious people DO - and organised religion widely and enthusiastically enables that abuse. And where it occurs, it IS abuse.
I'm 80 years old and have been atheist since the effort to beat religion into me only succeeded in beating it out of me at the age of 7. And for every religiot in my life who asked why I don't believe (a fair question) I've encountered SO many more who threatened "How DARE you REFUSE to believe? You'll be PUNISHED!!!"
And even today, when believers finally and desperately run out of logic and argument, don't they ALWAYS resort to the pathetic threat that I'll know better when I die?

    • @normkeller2405
      @normkeller2405 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You said that you don't mind what others believe, as long as you aren't compelled to believe it, correct?
My problem with anyone, especially myself believing that which does not comport with reality is that our beliefs form our actions and our actions affect others.
That appears to form the basis for a moral responsibility to believe as many true things as possible, and as few false things as possible.
I believe that we all have an ethical responsibility to support that which comports with reality and to oppose that which doesn't.
What are your thoughts on that?

    • @jackwaycombe

I rarely get that complicated. I'm happy to settle for one principle when it comes to religiots. If they stay out of my way (and that includes education and legislation) I'll stay out of theirs. Compare clothes on Sundays if you please, but leave me out of it.
It gets even less complicated for someone who tells my just-started-school son he's going to burn for eternity because he's godless (a very long time ago, admittedly.) Now there we had a guy cruisin' for a bruisin'.

Practically apeaking, we have to get on with the business of living in the reality we are presented with.

Now may I define what my morality is? Since man’s mind is his basic means of survival […] he has to hold reason as an absolute, by which I mean that he has to hold reason as his only guide to action, and that he must live by the independent judgment of his own mind; that his highest moral purpose is the achievement of his own happiness […] that each man must live as an end in himself, and follow his own rational self-interest."

Atheism tenets (e.g. big bang, abiogenesis, mistakes (mutations) gaining in complexity/new information, star formation, evolution) I debunk w/ ease. Any belief re the cause of this universe is a religion and you've tagged yourself an "atheist" because you believe atheist ideas re the cause of this universe (nature: time/space/matter/energy. You also believe that evolution is the "controlling power" over life, instead of God. THAT is religion.

I can honestly say that I, and a number of other people I know, have had experiences which defy normal explanation, and in some cases are corroborated by others. Those events *should* be dismissed as unlikely/implausible by anyone who didn't experience them and/or wasn't a witness to them. In spite of there being good reason for people not involved to reject such experiences, the people who had those experiences have good reason to accept them.
While *most* people can confirm a shared experience of *most* of the basic concepts of reality, there are some discrepancies, and often people who were in the same place at the same time can give contradictory answers about events that happened. One person might claim something happened while the other would assert something that's impossible to be true if it had. They might both agree on the events that happened, but not on the order in which they happened.
For some people, personal experiences - which they can legitimately agree *not* to assert as valid reason for *someone else* to believe, can be sufficient for *them* to believe something that would ordinarily fall outside of the normal bounds of consensus reality. I've had experiences which I'm convinced were the result of delusion/hallucination (drug induced and not), and I've had experiences which don't conform with my normal expectations about reality, but which I've either had third party corroboration for, or have otherwise had reasons to beleive they were more than just hallucinations. Those experiences are part of my personal beliefs, but I won't try and insist that others should believe the same based on my experience, if their own experiences don't support the same conclusion.
