sir we are using C.o.p ne refrigeration and efficiency in heat engine. Why?????

We generally use the term Coefficient of performance for those devices which consumes work, or we can say for those devices which maintains the lower or higher temperatures ( i.e refrigerator and heat pump respectively)..in order to check the performance of device in maintaining the desired temperature.
On the other hand, we uses the term efficiency for those devices which gives work as output (i.e heat engine) in order to Check the output capability of that device.
In short if the device deals with the heat transfer and maintaining the particular temperatures, then we uses the word performance....and if the device deals with the work output then we uses the word efficiency.
