I made a diddley bow using 2 pieces of 3/4 inch quarter round oak molding glued together. Sanding the top (flat part) so it's flat. Added a fretboard. Installed 1 tuner. Installed a flat pickup with the jack. Bolt as the bridge. With 1 .046 I strung it up. Plugged the guitar up to my amp. It sounded awesome. That string I think I tuned to an E for that low sound. Scale @ 25 inch. I couldn't put it down.
Happy to see you that you finally petted that chewbacca looking thing at the end, it seemed to want your attention. I need to build me one of them diddley bows soon, looks fun to play.
This is beyond cool, making something out of nothing. Respect! I feel sorry for people who just don't get something like this. Jiggly wiggly didley bow, Catch this here bear by the paw! Cheers! 🐻💗🎸✨
Ah, all the subtle nuances of the "doobie bow" (@13:57). 😉 I swear that this is both the fanciest diddley bow and the best db lesson I have ever seen on TH-cam. Three questions: 1) When will it become electric? 2) Can you please play some Bo Diddley? 3) Does it djent?
Hey Dale...great video as always...look up Rick Morning Star and his electric Hickory Stick ...I saw him 30 years ago at the Red Dog Saloon in Fayetteville West VA. He was awesome ...play rock and roll as well as Appalachian folk songs...a girl from the audience that new how to play harmonica got up and joined him and they played a lot of rock and roll together.
Del...love ya man..hetro non metro style..lol Anyhoo ..Ive learned a decent amount from you..and I appreciate it..Ive madw several out if scraps from jobs and driftwood ..pit lids..bats..etc etc.. Thank you for teaching simple things ..cause sometimes simlle ...is alot Semper Fi Fly guy
Hey Del! Great advice as usual! 👍😃The timing couldn't be better as I have my 6yr old grandson visitng over Easter and we're making a Diddly Bow together from a 7" box🎵🎶🪕
I like to make my Oliva box instruments using the bottom as the top so that the lid is still able to open. Gives you access to the piezo if you have one, or just a conversation starter by opening it up and saying “it’s actually a cigar box “
What size dowel. My first build used 1 inch diameter for a Tabak box because the box seemed hefty. I have a nice smaller Ashton and wondering is need to use smaller diameter dowel.
The dowel size doesn't matter as long as it can hold the tension of the string over time. The stick is just support and doesn't effect sound. I've used a thin hardwood warped one with a small cigar box and old broom handles on standard cigar boxes. Whatever you have laying around or see sticking out of a trash can on trash day.
Wow I understand the harmonic, my first time of not feeling like I was on a different planet . Thanks
Del knocks it out of the park again, now if I could only get my Diddley bow to hold its tuning long enough to try and keep up with this lesson.
Love your gift of music and giving harmonics and whammy lessons too. Thank God for people like that...like you.
awe … thank you for the kind words mate
Oh my gosh! This is just the best video! Thanks for all the details about harmonics. I'm gonna have a ball making this. Can't wait 😃.
Thanks Again!!

That was amazing. I spent ages "diddling" about with electronic tuners. I think I made it too complicated.
@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar
Have you ever considered building a a 2-string suitcase/briefcase bass guitar?
11:24 Play this when you want to wake your dog up.

Your dog at 14:00 min said just go to sleep this is annoying really, he was right . We agree there. Give up the smoke.
sorry, but the star in the video is the lovely dog :-)
Kilroy was here (here’s an idea, using Altoids tin as a guitar body)
